You’re BY FAR the best plant KZfaqr out here…. Keep it up!!! I’ve been a cultivator and master gardener for a long time (and a self-proclaimed houseplant master lol) and You’re so knowledgeable- I find myself agreeing with your advice and LOVING your recommendations to plant newcomers. And that’s another thing I love- you’re SO WONDERFUL to plant newbies! So many people are snobby to newcomers and we should be helping and Teaching each other become better always!! ❤

I just watched a week of the Chelsea Flower Show (in the UK). So much beauty from the plants and tips from passionate gardeners. If you were a plant, that would be your natural environment, because no-one was more pleasant, articulate, and lovely to watch and listen to than you are. For the first time ever, my plants are thriving since I started watching your videos……so very many thanks!

I have a few of these beginner plants by coincidence 😆. I bought them because I liked them but knew nothing about them, which I now know is not a good thing to do, LOL. I have a heartleaf philodendron and and a snake plant that I keep in my classroom. I thought they were thriving because I magically had a green thumb that I didn't know about, but apparently they are just easy to take care of 😅. I'm assuming a little fig isn't a beginner plant as it isn't on this list, but I have one that is loving my bedroom window (Its probably thriving because of something I've done by accident, knowing me). But alack, I now know that aluminum plants are not for beginners. I did everything for my little aluminum plant that just started to die suddenly after having it for 3 months. I still have one little leafless stem that I keep out of denial, but I know it's time to let it go. RIP Titania 😔

Agree 100%!! Lee is such a kind and gentle soul and really looks out of us newbies. I started out with a Jade plant about 9 years ago that I basically ignored for years. I gave it the occasional drink of water, paid no attention to the light requirements, and yet, in spite of my ignorance, it has survived to this day. I'm waiting on ~April to prune it because it looks horrible and I want to start over with it. Actually, it's 3 plants now and growing like a weed. Last summer, though, I got inspired. I bought 3 African Violets in honor of my mom. Then I bought a Golden Pothos and a China Doll. That's all it took, and I was off to the races! I killed my beautiful China Doll by overwatering her because I didn't do my due diligence. I haven't made that mistake again. It took me about 9 months to find another one locally and I bought 2 (just in case). My pothos is easy-peasy to care for and I'm getting ready to put her on a moss pole. I had been pining for a monstera deliciosa and found 3 just rooted on FB Marketplace a few months ago. They're doing wonderfully. I'm trying to decide whether to keep them separate or combine them into one pot. Any suggestions?

This is such an interesting topic for a video! I also really appreciated getting an insight into how different decisions result in different looking plants. A lot of plant videos I've seen just show you a perfect, happy plant and it's very hard to connect the dots as to why your own scraggly thing didn't turn out that way!

This really helped validate my choices, indoors I have several Jade plants, a couple pothos, a peace lily, silver sword philodendron, and a ZZ plant (truly an exercise in patience, she sits chilling under a grow light and is honestly more of a living lamp). I did recently go a bit wild and got an alocasia frydek because FUZZY LEAVES but I am being extremely careful with her as I feel those are a little more advanced. I have a bunch of outdoor alocasia elephant ears but unf I want a snake plant and a monstera for indoors so badly!

The pilea is such a good choice for beginners. I bought one at random because it looked funny. Had no clue what it was since it was still tiny. Once the whole plant had a size of like a basketball it started to get flowers nearly all year around, even in the winter, when it was really cold inside the house ( 15-18 °C). I had to give it away for moving countries and now i will get 1 or 2 new ones siince i'm in a new climatic zone to experiment with :D Great videos, keep it up boi!

I have a couple of pathos verities, but they're the only plant on your list that I currently own. By far my favorite plant is the spider plant, but I'm surprising myself with how well I'm managing to get a mini rose plant to grow (I was sure I'd already killed it before I learned some new tricks). I am considering getting a snake plant just because of how popular and hardy they are.

my mom tried to introduce me to gardening for ages with the stuff shed always plant outdoors, she likes being able to run a hose on them and let the earth soak it up and the leaves to flourish under the hot hot sun, but then id proceed to be a nuisance by bringing stuff inside which she didnt want becase itd make a mess, i was a toddler, and she doesnt know how to handle the needs of indoor (or even tropical!) plants, im an adult now and she gave me a tree for my birthday and he got big and fat over three years but suddenly started being sick, then she thought putting it outside in the sun would make it better and it only got worse- now my tree is gone :") but regardless, ever since ive picked back up the curiousity i had as a kid, i love being outdoors but i like being around plants with the privacy of my home so its quiet and peaceful and i can see every single little change every day- a reason to get up in the morning

But I got her a partner and transplanted them into a massive terracotta with feet lol; they're gorgeous and we'll have a bumper crop this year! PS: I actually killed my snake plant like three times 😅 (none of the salvaged leaves successfully propagated) it was another one of my earlier gifts.

@KillThisPlant 3 жыл бұрын
Calatheas are challenging for so many people. That great that you do well with them. Maybe cutting your soil with a higher than normal % of perlite/Orchid bark/Horticultural charcoal would be a good solution for you. That might make your frequent watering more helpful than harmful? Sometimes we have to change our environment to suit our behaviour. Happy growing

Yeah, I have a Maidenshair Fern, and it's doing better than any of my succulents are other than maybe my Snake plants (which I water every one to two weeks) and my sedums. Like, Idk what is going on with my Echeveria. I accidentally snapped the top off when I was bringing it home because it was stretched out, and it immediately started rotting from the tip. I even trimmed it back a bit further to remove the rot and It looks like it might have started rotting from the cut I made... So yeah. This might end up being the second one I've owned ever, and it might have died from rot again, so that's lovely.

If your leaves are drooping, not because they're underwatered and just thirsty, it's probably a root related issue. Propping up the plant won't necessarily fix that.

How long did this take? When you brought it home what did you do to it? Eg. Did you repot it? Did you put it in direct sun outdoors? Did you have extreme temperatures?

Any tips on Syngonium or Arrowheads? Keep getting yellowing leaves; online advice contradictory...either under or over-watering???? Help how do I kno?
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 3 жыл бұрын
While I don't actually have an Syngoniums, I would say the most likely culprit would be overwatering. What kind of soil are you using? Looking around for more info I'm finding that any kind of aroid soil mix that drains faster works well.

@@KillThisPlant I've been using Black Gold Cactus mix, which I further cut with their perlite..so don't think drainage an issue?
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 3 жыл бұрын
@@bamboozled1668 interesting. Maybe Cactus isn't the right medium. Maybe a mix of 40% potting, 30/30 Cactus Perlite? If you have time maybe you can propagate and experiment with a few different combinations.

I have a Syngonium Berry Allusion. I was having problems with yellowing leaves. I decided to place a moss pole and attached the base of the plant with a little twine to help support the plant to the moss pole. Not sure if this helped with the yellowing problem, but I haven't witnessed any yellowing since. The plant is doing quite well now. I have a lot of new growth at the base and the plant is looking really good!

If any one is worried about the cost of plants and killing them, I recommend just liberating the plants from big box stores!! Just practice jogging so you can get them to your loving home safe and sound. Plants deserve to be free from baalmart

Neon, especially, is a notoriously slow grower. Marble queens may need more light due to the lack of chlorophyll on the white parts of the leaves.

It sits in front of the East window where the light & sun comes in in the mornings....... Please help me understand why my leaves fell off & does the buds mean new leaves are coming?....Thank You!!!!

@@judithcoleman-bey4684 it could be! Jades need a lot of sun and to dry out fairly quickly. A good mix of a well draining soil, correct pot size, high light, and making sure the leaves are ready to take in more water is key.
