I miss WCW so much. The Monday Night Wars era was such a wonderful time to be a wrestling fan. I miss switching back and forth between WCW Nitro and WWF Monday night Raw. I used to record them both on VHS at the same time. Miss my childhood.

I remember the Black Scorpion vividly, as an 11/12 year old kid and I was really interested in that storyline... I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed that it was just Ric Flair yet again, but all those vignettes and run ins and stuff really had me interested in who it was to be... and same goes for spin the wheel make the deal, especially because that little skit of Sting visiting Jake Roberts in that seedy bar or whatever it was, and they were all chanting SPIN THE WHEEL MAKE THE DEAL, it’s so awesome, so bad but so good, that it still holds up now in terms of “good wrestlecrap” lol... go look it up, should be here on YT, def an enjoyable cheesy little vignette

Two words: Lethal Lottery. Partners against each other, rivals on the saw team all for a shot at the world title. WCW had something great. And yeah they may have done 2 or 3 but overall they didn't keep it. Imagine 1 in WCW 1997. Height of the nWo. Nash and Sting vs Goldberg and Hall. Savage and Piper vs Flair and The Giant. They could have used it to keep pushing the Sting vs Hogan/WCW vs nWo narrative.

I had such high hopes for the WCW relaunch. The first couple weeks were intriguing, but it soon was apparent that the new coat of paint on the company was fading and the rust was showing through again.

I always thought the idea of Raven and Sandman growing up together in upper middle class was entertaining because of their in ring characters. The only thing missing was having Tommy Dreamer along with them.

I'm not sure if it was an original WCW idea, but the large faction idea is a good one to me. I remember the Dungeon of Doom back in the day. I may be wrong, but I believe that's who The Giant debuted with. nWo was also a large faction, both white and black and red and black. Dark Order is getting there, but they're still building their names. Granted, you probably can't have several of these as it would commit the majority of any roster, but I think it's something that should at least be visited again.

Seven. The vignettes got fans talking about just who this guy is (I mean personality-wise; everyone knew it was Dustin Rhodes) and what he would do. The character never made it to the ring IIRC. Best Match Bonus. During Kip Frye's (sadly) short tenure as head booker, he had a policy that made the wrestlers and, by proxy, the fans happy: using money as a reward. In this case, Frye had a policy of giving a bonus to the participants of the best match on a card. The end result was EVERYONE busting theirs asses (sometimes literally) to get that bonus. The workrate was through the roof and the matches were awesome. Of course, Frye resigned after a couple months and Bill Watts came in and shut down all the fun.

I also was always a WWF kid. They were my jam and Hulk Hogan was my guy. But I did watch WCW and remember being pretty intrigued by the Black Scorpion angle. So much so that, and again as a total WWF kid, when told at the time, we can afford to get one upcoming ppv, the Royal freaking Rumble, or Starrcade where the whole Black Scorpion deal was going to be blown off, I picked Starrcade, because I just had to know who this guy was from Stings past. Now over the last couple of years I've heard folks speak very poorly of this angle and how cheesy and stupid it was. Having not seen it in about 30 I went and watched some clips and yes, it did not age well at all. But as a youth that was some cool shib.

Might be the first video I’ve seen where he doesn’t call it “dubya-see-dubya” thank god lol. Simon is entertaining tho. The first Raven pic was from his WWE run, and his original gimmick before Raven was Johnny Polo, a rich kid who was a manager and heel commentator. So the plot twist in WCW is kinda just reverting back to an old gimmick and not all that original. Idk why I felt compelled to say all this lol

Coal miners glove match....those gloves r basically just work gloves...wore a similar pair(a lotta pairs) at a lumber mill for 8 years almost....so no...getting hit by the glove wouldnt be that devastating....now if it had a puece of steel or something sown in around the knuckle areas of the glove....yeah that would knock someone out...
@bofletcher32123 жыл бұрын
That was the premise. There was steel over the knuckles to protect them from the rocks crashing down. The matches were done in Portland and very well explained. Watts used them in Mid South too. WCW just assumed everyone knew what it was and didn't explain the lead covered knuckles.

DiBiase as the financial backer worked better than Bischoff. If Eric ran WCW why would he want to destroy it? Diniase made more sense and if they worked an angle where Turner or “board of directors” fired Eric and then later on it was him, that adds more heat to the stable and gives it more legs and makes more sense. Making it Bischoff from basically the beginning was a mistake.
