As a traveler, and someone who has been to every single country in the world, nothing excites me more than YEMEN. Out of all the dangerous countries that I've visited -- including Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, Syria, etc -- no place is more dangerous for tourists to visit than mainland Yemen.
I went on an 8-day road trip to Yemen, all by myself, and it was one of the wildest trips of my life. I ended up meeting a local tour guide, Abdul, but he was very unpredictable and left me feeling uncomfortable the whole trip. That being said, I had a very memorable time and this video highlights everything from Yemen!
It's important to know that Yemen is a very complex country (both politically, culturally and economically), and should only be visited if you are an experienced traveler. It's very risky to visit Yemen and I do not advise going there alone.

I worked in Hajjah, Yemen as a nurse in the late 90’s. I have visited Saadah, Sanaa and Aden during my stay there. Yemen is beautiful and the people are very friendly and welcoming. They open their houses to guests and are very hospitable. I have many fond memories of Yemen. Sadly it is no longer as it was when i used to live there. I sincerely hope Yemen will attain peace once again and recover its beauty.

That little kid kissing Drew’s hand cracked me up, it’s so cute. Kids in Yemen kiss older people’s hands as a sign of respect. Yemen is an incredible country with an incredible culture, history and people and it’s a shame what’s happening there. It’s truly a unique country. It is the site to one of the oldest civilizations in the world, I believe there is only a handful of countries that can compare. I pray God saves it from what’s happening there and returns it to a better state than where it was in before.

But, I did see, no matter the circumstances, the most wonderful souls who would give you the shirt from their backs, no matter how poor they are, as I saw in Egypt. Don't let some of the journalists in this world allow you to think that all is grim...it isn't!!!! And Drew, you're right about how people are in these countries...they are GENUINE and curious about us. They want to show off their country and are so proud even if they are incredibly poor. I would just like to clarify that the knife you had mentioned about a kid having it, is part of Yemeni clothing culture and is known for the men to have it around. It is called the jambiya and in that sense is actually a dagger. It’s very common in Yemen so it’s not a big deal to any of us especially because it’s usually in that belt that they wear around their waist and is never really taken out unless they’re dancing 😅

This sophia isabelle bot is the top comment on almost *every* video i click on lately.. no one knows its purpose but its starting to freak me out seeing it everywhere. Ppl sussed out that it's a bot bc on the first video i ever noticed "her" on, "she" had commented a nonsensical word salad w strange grammar. Guess they upgraded her programming since then. She also never replies to anyone's responses.

I lived in Yemen for three years in the 1960s. My father was a Foreign Service Officer. I loved Yemen, and always hoped to return there someday. But when I finally retired a few years ago, it was long past the point of tourism. I am so sad that I will never see it again. 😢

I lived there for 6 years in Sana'a the capital. Most genuine and generous people. It's heart breaking to see what wars have done to it. The southern cities are a little better off because they were further away from the center and frontline and had a stable economy. side note** I am from Sudan, and the thing about birthdays is there as well. Both my parents on official documents have Jan 1 as their birthdays but that is not the actual birthday. People who were born in small villages or small towns may not have an official birth certificate and won't have a need for one until later in life.

How come it seems that more often than not the places on the planet with the most kind, generous, and genuine people are always the ones that are filled with statistics saying that people have the shortest life spans, no healthcare and are run typically by some sort of warlord(s). It's almost like people are being super nice because they just dont want to be executed or something... Maybe I'm reading too far into this, I just find it CRAZY SUSPICIOUS that those traits seem to be juxtaposed more often than not when visiting some 3rd world shit hole! Anyways, how about that Iran eh?! Looks like no matter how powerful you are religious, governmental, etc, you probably shouldn't go to the extent of doing stupid shit like literally kidnapping kids at protest and sending them to secret prisons where the families don't even have a clue where they currently are. I mean, I've seen enough; Iranian public is out for blood and those religious leaders that have been oppressing the fahhhhhk out of the population, well, their days are VERY, VERY NUMBERED! I'm not usually always a betting man, but if I were to make an educated guess, I'd at least put a small chunk of change on the under 30 days before those in charge, such as the Imam Khamenei are hanging from the rafters at one gala or another! Mark my words, they are PISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEDDDDDDDDDD!

I’m from South Yemen, but I was born and raised in NY. I always come to Yemen every 2-3 years and stay for 3 months.I’m actually in Yemen right now watching this. I love it here. Especially the city of Aden. It’s the closest thing you get to a modern city that welcomes everyone. If you do decide to come to Aden, recommend coming November through February. It’s very Cool those months, so the use of oil and electricity for air conditioning isn’t needed, meaning electricity and oil are always available. Plus people are just happier in the winter. Aden has so much hospitality, scenery, malls, parks and people from all over Yemen. Women here also work and many depend on themselves. Thank you for showing the world to Yemen, I hope stability and peace is in the near future for Yemen and it’s innocent people.
