Whenever a reactor says they want to go to the Philippines, I always give them this advice. Go three times. First, make it an island tour. Experience the beauty of the Philippines, see the sunset, the beaches, swim in the ocean. Second, Tour Metro Manila. Learn that the supposed "bad place" in the Philippines is not so bad after all. Learn it's history and meet it's people. Then third, go on a food tour. Experience the cuisine and how varied it is from province to province. Taste how mixing Spanish, Indian, Chinese and American into a singular cuisine is like. And hopefully, you come back a fourth or more, simply because you have learned to love it like home.

These are all the reasons why I'm still living here in Philippines despite the fact that I'm Half Japanese and I can live in Japan more comfortably. I just love the Philippiiiiines! ❤️

The cheapest time to visit the Philippines is from the second week of January to about March. Friends of mine are able to fly out of JFK to Manila roundtrip for about $600. Round trup domestic flights to Boracay or Palawan (beach islands) you can get for $100-150. Most expensive time to go would be around April-August and around the Christmas holidays. It's all about timing. :-)

I agree with you, mum. I never say cheap. I say inexpensive as well. I learned that from one of my teachers at an early age and when I thought about it at the time... she’s right. And I’ve used inexpensive to describe something that costs less. Cheap seems derogatory. I do hope you get to visit the Philippines. There r other Vloggers who have been there and keep going back. I know a couple who even moved there permanently (one Canadian and an Icelandic). I would recommend a guide, somebody from the US preferably, who is familiar with the Philippines. I myself am from California. I left when I was very young and have not been back since (health issues). I do hope you go there, exotic nature to explore or a bustling city lifestyle that r insanely way ahead.

i love the Philippines, people are so friendly to foreigners, i have been there 4 times, first time i did not have many plans, i made friends, i was invited to their homes, i was fed, sheltered, and welcomed in to their homes, i now have a lovely Filipino girlfriend, she is from a big family, 7 brothers and 4 sisters, the family dont have much but they are a FAMILY and they accepted me in to their lives with open arms, i have travelled to many islands in Philippines and i have never felt threatened or afraid, security guards and every day citizens are so friendly, ITS MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES.

Hello American Mum!!! You felt bad about the poverty in the Philippines, well that is the reality because of the extreme corruption in the government. But just for the record, the poor people in the Philippines are the most amazing Filipinos u'l ever meet. They are the ones who wl offer u genuine kindness. If u are their guest, they will give u d best treatment ever. They will offer u d most comfortable bed they have regardless if they have to sleep on the floor. They will cook good food to feed u even if they don't have much to eat on the days to come. If they are ur friend, they will fight for u and protect u with all their might. Another thing abt d Filipinos who are in poverty line, they are d happiest. I know, I have so many friends from Tondo ( known for being a notorious place). And they are all amazing.

What he calls rum looks like Emperador brandy. The most popular rum here is Tanuday (may have misspelled that). I sometimes will use Emperador or some other alcoholic beverage to help me go to bed at night if I'm still feeling awake late and want to get up early but I'm not really into the whole party drinking thing. I'm a white American who moved here 2010 and Philippines is now home. Wonderful place, beautiful friendly people and as he said dosn't cost much to live here. Also I'm still single but that could change. The ladies besides being the most beautiful girls in the world are also more what Americans would call traditional family values types. Most filapinas want to be housewife and mommy. By the way you call your self American Mum but you're from the south. Mum sounds so British to me. I usually think of Americans saying mom and British saying mum. Do you also call the front of the car the "bonnet" instead of the "hood" and the back the "boot' instead of the "trunk"?
