Love it! While I do appreciate the insane technique and skill of good non-metallic metal painting, I've always thought it made the minis look like cartoon characters instead of anything that could exist in the real world. So it's always going to be metallic paints for me.

NMM is awesome in photographs. It handles lighting predictably. TMM or just regular metallic paint is almost always better IRL, unless you're pulling a James Wappel and literally painting the reflected scene into your helmets.

That's actually exactly why I've used nmm on my Shatterpoint minis, to make them look like they're from the clone wars cartoon
@Sup3rH4ns
@Sup3rH4ns 2 ай бұрын
I've generally found the opposite! I'm not an expert on nmm by any means, but I find you can make it look less shiny and stand out less from the rest of the paint job, while still selling the metal look. I love using both styles in different settings though.

Number 7 - Contrast Tinting is my go to for metallics over large areas. In addition to Iyanden Yellow you can also use light browns contrast paints to make brass or bronze effects as well.

When it comes to brass/bronze verdigris, I've found that the technical paint "Nihilakh Oxide" works great for minimal verdigris, and any matte finish teal or jade acrylic paint works great for heavy verdigris.

When drybrushing, try using a non (or minimally) absorbant surface, like some plastic or wood. It'll keep the result from looking chalky, and feels like a bit of a miracle cure. I got the idea from Artis Opus. In case you're using paper on purpose for a specific effect, it'd be nice if you mentioned it. Great video, I'll try to remember to try these methods.

I painted up Iron Man for MCP with the same technique as you used for Contrast Tinting but just did a solid silver basecoat and then 2 layers of the red contrast paint (I think it was Blood Angel Red?). Worked amazingly and I think you could do the same for any punchy contrast paint over silver. Loved the rest too!
