I think therefore I bork.
*the adverb mention is just straight up wrong. "F-ing unhinged" is still an adjective. Excuse my silliness. (More things to waste your time with below.)
The grammatical variations of a certain f-word were of course yoinked from George Carlin's bit which did it better: (Seems to be George Carlin originally anyway.) • George Carlin - Usage ...
The mention about toile and toilet was put extremely badly. "Toilette" was the diminutive, not the other way around as poor wording implied.
There's some controversy surrounding how efficient a bee's waggle dance actually is. I'm no apiologist (no seriously, that's a specialist of bee science), but the problem doesn't seem to bee (heh) with the waggle dance. Rather, the dispute is over how much of a difference it makes to bees watching the dance itself. For 1000x more depth than this video went into: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
One of the opening slides shows the greatest copypasta known to humankind: knowyourmeme.com/memes/navy-s...
The "If this little lion could speak..." line is lifted almost directly from Wittgenstein. The original line is "If a lion could speak, we could not understand him." As in: even with complex language, alien minds might still be incomprehensible.
Quite a lot of the silliness with English was taken from John McWhorter's brilliant Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue: The Untold History of English. It's a great read: / our-magnificent-bastar...
This one was largely inspired by a friend trying to convince me that animals don't just have a 'smaller' form of human intelligence, they've gone off in other evolutionary directions and we should probably count those different types of smarts as valid too. So, thank you to HF for that.
The thumbnail is an axolotl, and just in case you haven't come across them yet they're quite fantastic: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axolotl

Bonus fun: I spent about a month trying to come up with the title for this one. "The Tower of Babble" seemed like a fun comedy twist on the biblical story. I looked it up. No one seemed to have used it already. Well, I felt terribly proud of that and walked with a spring in my step for several weeks. Just before uploading today I thought I'd check again. I hadn't noticed Google was kindly correcting the typo for me. Of course The Tower of Babble is already a thing; books, films, podcasts. Almost threw myself out the window.

I hear a really interesting analogy some years ago. Imagine an ant hill next to a highway being built. Will the ants ever even notice that something "unnatural" is happening in their backyard, even killing some of them? We could literally be awash in communication signals and cosmic messages but don't have the ability to even notice. We could be looking at things on telescopes that are wholly artificial and not even know it.

@@SirTorcharite Perhaps it's not even slow construction.. How slow seems human being to a fly? Or how slow would an elephant seem to a gastrotrich, which lifespan is shorten than a week? For creatures, like gastrotrich, walking elephant could perhaps seem almost still, like an statue. In that perspective, what is time anyway.. Sun rotates fast af and travels through the universe even faster, yet.. to us it seems almost perfectly still in the clear sky. Perhaps, the whole observable universe actually is some sort of multidimensional highway or perhaps some kind of circuit in an alien machine and all the stars are only sparks produced by soldering joints. And the whole process takes less time than the blink of an eye for some giant alien being. Each black hole is the carbon left over after such a spark has cooled, and its "giant" gravity is actually something like static electricity that attracts dust and seed sparks. Am I on drugs? Perhaps. Am I wrong? Perhaps not.
@SirTorcharite
@SirTorcharite 2 жыл бұрын
@@k.noname1496 Absolutely! All perspective is relative! The lives of a pet likely seem long from an old animal passing naturally, while they seem so short in comparison to our lives as humans. A race living tens of thousands of Earth years would be inconceivable to us by it's very nature. With so much time available to something why rush to turn and acknowledge something? Why not leisurely adjust your sight to something over a few hundred Earth years? Moving slowly conserves energy and prevents heat buildup! Idk about the rest but I'm not knowledgeable enough or arrogant enough to believe I know much of anything at all with certainty! Let alone knowing well enough to criticize ideas on metaphysics and the general unknown! Hoping I last long enough to see some major discoveries in that direction though!

I adopted a cockatiel last year. He opened my eyes as to how parrots don't just learn human words as meaningless sounds, but roughly get the meaning of the words. He picked up a lot of them, without me explicitly trying to teach him, for example "Kde je" which is Slovak for "Where is". He only uses it when I leave the room where he is, or whenever he's alone. When I reply with "Tu som"(I'm here) or "Poď"(Come), he will fly over to me. Funny thing is, he also says "Poď" when he wants me to come where he is and pet him or play with him. He also uses "Ahoj"(hello) when I come home from work or when he meets someone new. But then, the cheeky little birb also learned to laugh, and does it whenever I drop something on the ground or have to clean his poop from the floor.

Your cockatiel is a smart little lad! Mine doesn't talk, but he speaks, if you get me. He makes various vocalizations in response to me talking with him, varying in tone and such, or just on his own when he wants something or is feeling something. It is really cool to have a little alien in the house that also appreciates a bit of the ol' talky talk c:

It's really awesome having a little buddy at home you can talk to, or sing songs with! He can currently sing melodies like "If you're happy and you know it" or "Tonari no Totoro", and of course my ringtone, thats a classic. :D He also spends the whole day outside of his cage, so usually when I'm having online classes he's on my shoulder, thanks to which I became pretty well known among classmates and teachers as "the parrot guy" lol.

Small complaint. The baby on board sign ISN’T there for other drivers. It’s there so that if in an accident the parents are incapacitated that the first responders will not only know there is a baby in the vehicle and to look for it, but that the parents in the vehicle want the baby to be saved first. It’s kind of like saying “Hey, in the event of bad thing, please secure my baby first.”

This is one of my favorites. I feel like the internet shows people so many “miracles” that we are desensitized to the beauty inherent in not only life, but survival. This captures that, and also the utter complexity of community that exists in populations: ant workers, soldiers, queens and etc all fulfill a purpose in the colony that is both communicatory and self sacrificial, much as the individual cells in our body operate. If we are ‘alive’ and ‘conscious’, then why not an ant colony, all communicating and cooperating for the greater good of the groups survival? It’s the same thing, but it exists at a different level of organization

I'm Romanian over here, calligraphy and language are passions of mine, and I find your language and scribbles very intriguing. Ahem-also your laws on marijuana-ahem. And to be honest I first heard of _your_ Georgia when the ruskies came with the tanks, and it was on the news, and a lady from America was like "I'm looking out the window and can't see any tanks, help". M'name's also George, I am having visions of that Xzibit meme. George is talking to George about Georgia, but not the American Georgia the other Georgia. Spent too much time in this bath tub, I can feel my brain wrinkling like me toes.

You have literally made me interested in so many philosophical and psychological concepts. I love to take a minute to just think about how incredibly absurd and amazing humans are. I’m so happy that you posted a new video ❤️ Thank you all for informing me of the bad accusations about exurb1a. I really had no idea and I will make sure to look into it. His videos and knowledge I am happy to have known and that won’t change (because it really has made a difference and I think it would be wrong of me to say I “magically” hate everything he’s done because that’s just a lie). I won’t support him if it is proven or extremely suspected that he’s done bad things. Well this definitely didn’t make my day better

I grew up bilingual & loved language. Studied linguistics in college, took many non-language classes taught in French & Japanese, &today at the job I took waiting in a Chinese restaurant to force myself to learn Mandarin faster, I had to translate a Spanish table's needs to another waiter, while having my own table of French Canadians just in French, all the while surrounded by Mandarin & I've never felt an exhaustion quite like 4 language switching back to back today, so this video being what I find when I got out of work couldn't have been more on point, perfectly timed, just by sheer coincidence everything I'm thinking about constantly, especially today. Thank you. I didn't work a lot today either, the exhaustion I felt from that language switching though was worse than working a 14 hour non-stop absolutely slammed double then walking 10 minutes to my car. I don't know what it is

Only makes sense, to be fair. Your brain probably isn't used to this, interpreters don't train this stuff for nothing. Thus your brain went into overdrive, using up much of your energy, the thing doesn't run on love and kittens after all. (at least on a biological level, still need food for that. hehe) That the brain sometimes can hog so much of your resources depending on a situation often slips our minds, pun intended. Now excuse me while I'll show myself out. o/
