Frankly, I cringe whenever the narrative of feminism is forcibly inserted into remuneration issues. If Katrina can bring in 300 crores for a film solely on her name like the Khans, Akki, Ajay, Ranbir, etc, then yes, she deserves to charge as much as any of them. For eg. Deepika was paid more than Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan for Piku. Vidya Balan was paid more than her co-stars in The Dirty Picture. So it's all about the perception.

Whether it's Aamir, Manoj or Irrfan, I've always marvelled at their innate and organic ability to shut down agenda with irrefutable logic and sense.

One thing I realized about South stars, seeing the interview clips of Dhanush and Rana Daggubati is that while they are a very humble lot, they also know where to put their foot down in the face of abject stupidity on display.

The Shahid one literally killed me 💀 He was like “Really, BC?” 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

The best thing about dhanush interview is when asked by a fan at a press meet of the film he said that the channel people asked him to remove mike and walkoff so that they can promote the interview and attract audience attention. 😄😄

It was really impressive to hear Aamir khan talk about the pay gap from this point of view without mincing his words. It was humble but realistic at the same time. A person might not have given this answer when two actresses were sitting right beside them but I guess this side of the pay gap won't have been brought up that well without being completely honest.

I watched an interview of Sushant and Sara'for Kedarnath where the host (Komal Nahta) deliberately ignores Sushant and directs all the questions to Sara. He asks only one or two questions from him. It was worse at the trailer launch. All the journalists are asking questions from the director and Sara, for a whole 30 mins they only ask him if he is a Shiv bhakt, and what he thinks of Sara. That was really uncomfortable to watch

Priyanka killed it by making a clear distinction between feminism and feminazism.

Rana daggubatti's interview with scoopwhoop is one of the favorite one. As a representative of an industry he clearly breaks down all the misconception that people gossip about the world of movie stars and movie makers in simple terms. He clearly a man of immense passion towards cinema, his knowledge about the craft is really inspiring. He also clarifies the reality of nepotism in the industry. With harsh, intelligent, sugar coated witty replies he pulls the legs of interviewer and often shut her mouth about and force her to change the topic.

That was a very appropriate reply by Aamir Khan, I don't think the question was cringe though, he handled it gracefully.

South vs north divide is huge. I was in a Telegram study group , and students were speaking all the time in hindi , and me and my Telugu buddies started conversing in Telugu , northies attacked us, mocked us, we had to leave the group. And the admin of the group messaged me "Why did you and your friends leave the group? they were jus scared you were abusing them in Telugu. Will you leave India also if this happens to you in real world" I was like 😑😑😑

If Vidya Balan or Kangana or Taapsee are carrying a film entirely on their shoulders and raking in the moolah on the strength of their own name, they deserve all the pay raises they demand. But those actresses who are content playing eye candy in 10-15 minute roles opposite 50 plus humongous stars have absolutely no right to whine about the same.

It is expected of them to behave as the adult in the room. It is much easier to clap back, rather than make it a teaching moment for everyone. Respect for that! On an unrelated note, I can't remember any mainstream TV news anchor who has 10% of this maturity or patience. 😂

The wire journalist, Arfa Khanum sherwani is one of the most vicious journalist of Indian digital media. She has a habit of adding communalism in every news. Great that Manoj tackled her illogical arguments very well.

I mean I understand Aamir Khan's point and it isn't the movie production companies to be blamed for the pay gap, but I do feel the reason that male actors do bring in so much more audiences and have a bigger fanbase than their female counterparts is because, the roles given to women are mostly for the eye candy and to fill in for the love interest, and they have much less staying power because after their 30s they're relegated to the side role of mom, and that men are still centered in a lot of movies. So I feel that while it wouldnt be fair to ask the industry to pay the one-song-two-scenes role actresses play the same as the centre-of-the-movie actor's role, we do need to work on bringing more relevant and complex roles for women in these movies. Like if you're going to bring in a female character, give her a proper role and significance to the plot. Yes there are female centered movies, but they are still a minority compared to the vast majority of movies being made.

I would like to object you regarding your stand in pay disparity. What amir khan said was absolutely true. Male actors can pull a larger audience than women. But how? Over the years the audience have been conditioned into seeing films solely owned by the male actors and females just been a supporting cast to the hero of the movie. No khan or kapoor had acquired the kind of stardom that they have now within the release of their first film. Even for aamir khan looking at his career his most successful movies came in the 90's (he had his hero debut in the 80's). The best stories are always written for the males and out of a 100movies releasing in a year only 10or 20 are movies about female characters. What i am trying here to convey is that. Underneath all the factors the main culprit is sexism and gender inequality! Our society have been worshipping the male actors because the kind of movies that they act in. When you look at the career graph of deepika padukone or kareena kapoor or kangana raunaut they have done only a few films led by their characters. It would take quite a long time for actors in general to achieve a large audience and to have that stardom or market pull. So we cannot just brush aside pay disparity saying that male actors or khans are able to pull a larger audience than fellow actresses. Its bcs of the existence of sexism in the movie industry for a long tjme.

Omg I was there when the Esha Deol and Hema Malini interview happened, the poor moderator was not allowed to moderate for the remaining days of fashion week...this is just a small snippet, it was not the moderator's fault. She was doing her job as told by organisers as everything was running super late.

one can't deny that cinema is a soft power ( whether we want it or not) so cultivating it to suit your agenda is a low hanging fruit one wishes not to miss, on the other hand we have hosts like Irfan from Rubaru who really tuch the soul of the guest. upto us who (after a bit of hit and trial) which part of journalism we want to indulge in.

About the point made by Rana, I think that there are cultural differences in various film industries. Just because you dub a movie in a different language it doesn't change the fact that it was made for a particular audience. If you watch a Kannada movie in Hindi, there will be many nuances and inside jokes you fail to get. At the same time, the movie like Avengers (which can be dubbed into several languages) cannot be made in Hindi film industry in the same way. The movie making process, the scripts are definitely different.

One needs so much patience to be a celebrity, I would have legit rolled my eyes and told many of these "journalists" to stop asking stupid questions.:D

Of course an actress wont be paid more if she has minimal screen time but an actress isnt paid even *equal* even if she has the same screen time except maybe if its an established leading lady like Deepika,etc. You should check out an interview of Anushka talking about it. She mentions how everything from the hotel rooms of actresses are smaller than the ones of the Male co star

The whole perception of a feminist by the media houses is also problematic...Like whenever they talk about feminism it's always about her clothes...So if she wears western and shorts more she is a feminist but if she comes wearing a saree she is a prude she can't identify herself as a feminist...No where do they talk about her work... Their idea of feminism never goes beyond what she wears

Most of the time ignorance and insensitivity seems when certain journalists pose questions as they do little to no home work, come with conceived notion and feel they have no limit. A good interview is always when the question is open and genuine interest to know rather than fitting the person with your preconceived notion. I know these flares gather lot of attention and hype. I appreciate your content a lot, Jammy. But would like to point out a small nuance here. The point on pay parity has much more depth than what has been portrayed in this segment. We live in a patriarchal society which is by default inclined towards one gender. In such a scenario, asking valid questions about equality cannot be labelled as 'awkward' or 'unnecessary'. It's good that the actor has brought out a critical factor in response, but shouldn't these discussions happen in order to be informed about these things? I don't think we should be problematising the posing of such questions. Why is it such a big deal if questioning thousands of years of patriarchy makes you a bit uncomfortable? It is a symbol that we as a society have started asking pertinent questions. It need not be seen putting a privileged individual in a spot. Sure, your video is on awkward celebrity interviews, so you can't delve into the topic of sexism or pay parity too much, but a little more context would've been useful. Like 'this is one major factor but the issue of pay parity has several other aspects rooted in the patriarchal nature of the society...' Is it not true that the masses find it difficult to accommodate the idea of a female as a 'hero'? Why does the trope of an unrealistically strong character works better for male actors. Rajnikanth, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have thrived on such action movies even if the story line wasn't much impressive. But the same plot doesn't work that well for women like the case of Mardaani and Gangajal 2. Clearly, people don't want to come to theatre to see the feminine heroine do insane action and beating the shit of people. There is definitely a lot of patriarchy underlying 'commercial success' in all fields including cinema, which if not acknowledged, leads to the notion that feminism is misguided. You would be doing a disservice if by way of your content, those sitting on the fence take home the idea that feminism is a vice that questions everything unnecessarily. There is, in fact, a need to question everything, deconstruct and rebuild the society on equal grounds. That cannot assure that everyone will be 'comfortable' at all times. Why should that attempt at that be so threatening?

The TV anchors that you have shown are already pretty infamous. Would have been interesting if you would have also shown celebrities giving dumb or cringe replies to genuine and good questions. Almost feels like you are playing safe here. ☺️

BOI I REMEMBERED AN AWKWARD INTERVIEW MOMENT: So ndtv was interviewing tom hiddleston, the interviewer was asking him to do the srk pose and when tom asked can you show me what it is, the interviewer ✨spread his arms without moving back so that tom could see him, the arms got cut in the frame✨ tommy asked him again and couldn't get it.
