I bet they aren’t consulting any of the people originally involved in all of the remakes they’re screwing up now. To me, each new release is only getting worse than the last. Haven’t seen the new Mulan yet, but the only positive I can say about it is at least it wasn’t whitewashed like so many other movies.

Well remakes change the story line & looses alot if the story! So it's nit really a remake! It's more like a re-think of their interpretation of a movie! Which is not a big hit because to much of the story is lost! 😵😵😵😵😵😵

Some remakes work, the majority don't... Invaders From Mars Remake, Invasion Of the Body Snatchers 1978, The Thing 1982 are examples of ones that worked as they did new things! This is something Hollywood doesn't like to do... being creative... as creativity is too much of risk according to them!

The 2000s Dawn of the Dead also wasn't a direct remake, it just followed the same premise (a group of people stuck in a shopping mall). I also don't think the symbolism of the first movie works anymore, seeing how shopping malls are slowly dying.

@@harley7836 Nobody ever said anyting about "Best decade" for anything. I personally don't like most of those torture-porn movies either (wouldn't call them horror movies), but they're not really new, they're just a continuation of the exploitation movies (slashers and splatters) of the 70s and 80s. And some of them are actually pretty good, the first two or three Saw films are, for example. Oh, and the generalization of "everything was better back then" is kind of wrong in my oppinion aswell, there are very many crude or horribly bad horror movies made in the 70s or 80s aswell (some even with big names, like pretty much the whole Friday the 13th series).

Darren Bousman tells a great story about being attached to remake Cronenberg's SCANNERS. He said he wouldn't do it unless he got Cronenberg's blessing. So he found himself at the same film festival as the great man and managed to introduce himself as the guy who is remaking SCANNERS. Cronenberg looked at him and said in that icy-cool Cronenberg-ian way: "Yeah, don't make that movie..." and walked away. It demoralised Bousman to the point where he called up the studio and withdrew from the project.

Part of the reason they succeeded is because they went someplace new, though. Very different feel from the original on both of those. The main problem with most of today's remakes are the studios see them as easy cash cows. They aren't done by visionary filmmakers who love the original and can adapt to the modern era without harming the original's story and style. They are done by filmmakers who probably never even care about the original at the first place and agrees anything the studio wants for quick profit.

As for cinematic universe focusing on Spiderman and his arsenal of villains... aside from the venom movies and maybe the Morbius movie, not really necessary.

It also doesn't even add anything new to the subgenre of zombie movies. It's an okay zombie flick, has some decent make up and special effects, but it's completely shallow.

Someone actually interviewed him and ask him similiar question, and no he didn't felt rip off. If you read the manga or watch any of the pre-Lion King anime, then you would have to agree because the manga itself does not really have a over-arching plots or villain. It's just about a white lion cub ruling a kingdom of animals, turning carnivores into herbivores, getting into random episodic advantures and sometimes, prance around with his father's hide (i didn't make this part up).

It certainly wasn't. The director, Herzog, has denied that his film was originally intended to be connected to the Ferrara film. That was a decision that came after filming began. While Keitel was great in the original, the script was a little too Catholic for my tastes. I thought Herzog's film had a more mature and realistic view of what 'redemption' actually is.

There are literally thousands of books with hundreds upon hundreds of genius level great stories that can be turned into movies. Studios: "Hey... remember that movie that we made before? Let's do a remake!" Modern studios: Rehashing the same movies and stories instead of using new and great material for two generations now.

@@mechengr1731 So true. If modern studios always did what they do now, we'd still be watching stories of mastodon hunts and other cave paintings, only now modern technology would be involved and the same 10 stories would be global with pretty much no interesting culture other than people quoting misquotes of ancient man who hunted mastodons while painting them as saints in re-tellings.

Before new "Aladdin" came out, I thought it was sacrilege to cast Will Smith as the Genie. I've since changed my mind. He was the only thing good about it. Ritchie made a cliff notes version of the original with all the fun and charm sucked out. When Will Genie finally made his appearance, the first thing that popped into my head was literally "OH THANK GOD SOMETHING FUN." The movie is a total slog.

I have watched the Child's Play remake once and the originals many times and I have to say that I think the remake is actually pretty good. The thing is, I like how they updated the concept and made it a bit more relevant to modern times and I think it was an all round wiser move than trying to just do a rehash of the same story. It also made Chucky a bit more of a threat too because he was connected to everything electrical pretty much. I am not saying it is better than the originals, but it was a good film.

I think the problem with remakes is they take an amazing movie and has little floors in it and try and make it better. Its rather difficult to make a movie better when its already particularly perfect. Also they often don't wait long enough a lot of the time. Childs play is a perfect example of this the original film was filmed in 1988 only 30 years later the make a remake everyone who saw the 1988 movie is still alive. Titanic on the other hand had 50 years in between the original and the remake and it did a lot better even though it was awful it MADE money and at the end of the day along as the production company make money they dont care about anything else. Also making the remakes into tv shows is the best idea. Look at West World that movie is over 40 yrs old and still enjoyable and now there's a tv show that is the best way to attract fans and keeping them watching.

it does feel sometimes like studios get impatient with intellectual properties and just want to make a quick buck (though they sure like wasting money on getting it). Its weird that you imagine the writers, directors and actors are all working really hard on making remakes and reboots good, but don't realize they have no idea what they're actually doing

Others that spring to mind include: The Last House On The Left. I Spit On Your Grave. La Femme Nikita, the French original is superb. The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo trilogy, the Swedish version by Yellowbird Studios. How many remakes do we need of the story of Robin Hood? ~ And Mr Costner, there was no gunpowder available in 12th centuary England. A couple of centuaries short. As for Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson ~ It has to be Basil Rathbone & Nigel Hawthorne that are still the number 1.

There are a few remakes/adaptions of La Femme Nikita. You have the rather bad Hollywood copy "Point of No return", and then a Japanese version called "Black Cat" (which was not that good), and then the pilot for the TV-series La Femme Nikita" with Peta Wilson. The latter much better than the Maggie Q-version.
