Eight new Patek Philippe watches have just been revealed, so what are they? What makes any of them special? And which ones would I have?
New watches from one of the oldest and most respected watchmakers is always big news. But this week we’ve had 4 new Nautiluses break cover, including the 5711 replacement, the 5811. And 4 new chronographs, including one just for left-handed people.
So, I think it’s time to look at each one in detail, have some fun pricking the horology pomposity balloon, and find out if any are going to be added to TheWatchGuys’ collection.

Good to have TWG back. Was worried you had gone the same way as UK Prime Ministers of late The Patek Philippe chronographs are out of this world. Will never get close to even see one, but I am glad they exist But this new avalanche of flogged to death Genta design makes your wrist check a much more pleasing sight.

I like that 5990 myself, that is the winner. It looks great and moves it on from the one you have, to me its a more attractive dial with the better bracelet as well. You dislike it subjectively, I guess I'm the other way on it. I think the new dial is much more appealing and I like that it's subdued blue and not really cobalt like the Rose gold version. It's a bit of an "incremental gains" type update akin to what Rolex do all the time. Agree on the Rose Gold version of 5712 looks much better on the new model for some reason. I've always felt the old ones looked a bit disfigured. PS Thank you for talking about the whole release of all the watches and not just the hype watches. Love the way you've talked about some of these especially the "Producer Michael" spiel for the Rainbow, was just the right amount of humour here. I like the 5935, I do think the 5172g is the best of the Patek's in this Rose gilt dial.

Split second Chrono perp £254,000. I would need 2. One for labouring and gardening the other for more formal occasions. Perhaps stick one on a nato.

Damien, I love that each watch made for left handers seems to spin your head. At least you are consistent with your disdain. This year just (2) watches from major watch manufacturers made for the 10% of the population and it causes an outcry. The 5373P Destro is my new grail. Since I already have the 5712, I’d pass on the rose gold version. But the brown dial itself is bonkers! The world timer in salmon is interesting but I’m not sure if I like that salmon hue. And the perpetual Chrono feels like they did that already in green. Not much of a change. Beautiful watch but not appealing at $200k. The diamond bezels are not my cup of tea. But to each his own.

The Aquanaut Rainbow is outrageous. Just the watch for the filthy rich Asian market. Nice wrap up of the new collection. The 5712 is my choice.

The new salmon dial world time is a beauty. Feels a tad overpriced - I’m feeling it about 20% overpriced - which could be reflective of increased costs and rampant inflation lately. ❤

Yep, for me this was the stand-out of the new releases. (But, being steel, it will presumably also be highly restricted in numbers - as per the usual Patek doctrine of "rarity" for non-precious metal production.)

part of your appeal is you review new PP's whilst wearing the Watermelon.. That shows real class. the rose gold 5712 is all a bit too much but it's a bit of a monster tbf I like the 5990 (I thought it went up a mm??) 5811 is ok but nothing special (for a PP) again anything with diamonds is a straight no. I like the left handed option as although I am R/H I wear on the right so it works for me. (are people that mono dexterous they simply cannot push a button with a left digit??) The rainbow is everything I don't like . (see above) The green is a winner though for sure. I don't like the salmon dial as the dial ends up looking too small for the watch. but always interesting to hear your take Thanks as ever

With their other world time watches featuring grand feu cloisonné enamel or hand guilloché dials, I think it is a misstep for Patek to feature a stamped dial on this $64k salmon world time watch.

I just don't understand this whole Nautilus thing. Yep Great watch. But Mr Stern said they were going to stop making the 5711 etc too popular, one watch model company etc. And yet they are doing exactly the same thing and repeating history - the $ must be too great. Either you stop the Nautilus model or you don't, but in the mean time PP are playing with their customers. The new model and the old model are almost identical.

I'm wondering whether they'll be in any hurry to make the new time-date Nautilus in steel? 🤔Looking at the slightly mad hype that has bubbled up around the steel 5711, and the pre-owned prices, they might figure that they can get more of the action by charging more at retail for the precious metal references? (They could still reward their biggest and most longstanding collectors by occasionally making the odd limited edition Patek-boutique-only Nautilus references in steel...I guess...)

If you do a quick google of "Thierry Stern 5711 discontinued" you will see him talking about how he didn't like that their "most desirable" model was a steel cased watch nearly a year ago and hinting it would come back in gold or precious metal only. That he wanted to move them into precious metal where he thought Patek should be more focused. I think they will go metal for the complicated watches with the Nautilus as well as gold, but only precious metal for the 5811.

@@TheRunningManZ Yes, there seems to be a definite shift going on. In the pre-hype days the non-complicated Nautilus and Aquanaut references were regarded as the "entry level" in the Patek catalogue. I can imagine that Thierry Stern would have felt first bemusement and then possibly a mounting anger to see watches that he was selling for only 15K or 20K (retail of just a couple of years ago) being re-sold for twice or three times as much on the pre-owned market! It makes pretty good sense - as you say - for them to make these hyped up references in white gold or platinum. This way, they are getting a larger share of the action when they sell them at retail. But it's also interesting that they aren't turning right away from steel. They seem to be introducing steel references (albeit with limited production numbers) to the complications range outside Nautilus-Aquanaut. My watch (5212A) raised a few eyebrows back in 2019. Now we see the world time-chrono in steel too! I think Mr Stern may want to go back to a 1950s type of situation where they are essentially making complicated watches in precious metal, but with just a very few of these being made in steel.

Lefty chronograph was such a lazy release. One, its just the original case flipped over. Two, it just makes Patek look like they're following trends.....again. Like the Tiffany Nautilus but to a lesser degree.

Another cracker of an episode Damian. I don’t think it’s appropriate for someone who has never had nor probably ever will own a PP to pass judgment but I agree, that 5712 is scrumptious.. however, for some reason I kind of want to see that 7968/300R poking out from under your jumper cuff 😂😂😂
