In this clip I compare 8 overdrive, distortion and boost pedals from Mad Professor. I'm using a 2008 Gibson Les Paul R9 and a 1983 Marshall JCM800 410, 50W, 1X12 combo equipped with a 1971 Celestion G12H-30 55Hz bass cone pulsonic Greenback. The combo is miced using two 1960s BeyerDynamic M160 Ribbon Microphone, one close and one room mic. The Sound interface is an Apogge Duet and the DAW is an IPad with Cubasis. Recorded dry. The pedals are:
Blueberry Bass Overdrive
Ruby Red Booster
Bluebird Overdrive
Little Green Wonder
Mighty Red Distortion
Stone Grey Distortion
Sweet Honey Overdrive (My Favourite)
Royal Blue Overdrive
Cheers!
Johan

Thank you for your always-helpful reviews, but especially this one, Mr. Segeborn. I thought I heard the bass depth I've been looking for in an overdrive pedal when you played the Blueberry here and it convinced me to try this pedal out (for six-string), and now it has a permanent place on my board!

This was actually pretty helpful. I was surprised that through-out the video, my favorites remained the same, until you got the "naked" parts. I didn't like the blueberry, until I heard it alone. The Green Wonder and the Sweet Honey sounded great in band, but kinda harsh by themselves; this might explain why I've been liking some pedals until I get them home. I liked the Royal blue all the way through, though.

my amp is a fender twin reverb, with a strat, so my setup is very clean. I keep my fulltone full drive on all the time for a little grit. then click on my mad professor blue bird for my leads and with these pedals stacked, I have been told 1000 times that my sound is very very good. Im a blues rock guy. but its all in the players own ear that tells the story. Good luck everyone with finding you sound.

Very very nice demo, my friend. My favorite is Honey too!! But to tell the truth, except for the Honey and Bass, all the others sounded very similar... And the Red Boost sounded a little weak for me.... Thank you so much!

toss up between the Little Green Wonder and Bluebird for me. They sound fairly similar, would have to spend time with each to explore their tones. I know the LGW has the body knob which is really handy for getting a nice variety of tones out of it. Sweet Honey was great too.

At section 3/4 when the SHOD appears then had an eargasm. I think SHOD can perform the perfect rythm and LGW is awesome as a solo booster, it really pushes the leads to the front of mix.

My first choice is Sweet Honey Overdrive for his kind of clipping sound, my second is Bluebird Overdrive for his kind of delay sound in the background and my last choice is Royal Blue Overdrive because I like the little extra bass in the sound. But my choice I do by feeling, maybe my choice would be different if I would be in the room to feel the sound power of the amp. :)

Would ya please explain why you'd use these various distortion/overdrive pedals through a Marshal JCM 800 which everyone knows is King of Rock Tone, and no pedal is ever needed? Just dont make sense at all...Perhaps through a Roland Jazz Chorus with crap overdrive/distortion or any other subpar amp that has hopeless amp grit!...Diggin your playin!

This is just for me.. I can't speak for anyone else, so I won't... Trying to listen to the differences with earphones.. theyre pretty damn good earphones... all but the ruby and that mighty red sounded the same.. then I'm watching the playing, along with the sound and its so out of sync it looks like air guitar. Now i don't know if the intention was to have them all sound the same.. cuz they did.. but as i listen to other videos of these drives, there are distinct and overwhelming differences among them... Now I do get it.. overdrive is overdrive, and at somepoint you absolutely CAN make pedals sound like eachother.. but I just found it bizarre that all but two sounded pretty much exactly the same.. .. like I said.. can only speak for myself... dunno how others hear the diff with or without headphones... looks like you had fun though... just sayin
