People are saying how this wont work in a street fight, this is a bjj competition not a life or death situation

Well, there’s no reason it couldn’t when done with better technical skill than what’s in this video (I’m sure he’s capable of proper form with it, but some peoples heart races during a match). It was slightly rushed but he had enough skill to still pull it off, but watch it in slow-mo. He sends the first leg and without it being fully set goes ahead to throw the second leg. This means all of his weight will fall backwards towards his head. This goes REALLY bad if he doesn’t have arm control. Since he does, he pulls this off without paralyzing himself. In a street fight you’d have to control that arm AND use that first leg as leverage. His right arm when gripped in the right spot would help you know if his weight will stay there and will protect his groin area as he finishes the move. All of his weight will also go forward instead of falling backwards, meaning if it fails he can bail with his legs underneath him instead of falling defenseless on his head/neck area. You also have the choice not to throw that second leg over if something feels off. The thing about bjj is you never have to rush when you do the move right. In a match or in a street fight. I grew up at 5’3 in Detroit. I got into a lot of fights being prideful lol untrained street fighters always leave SOMETHING open. It’s just a matter of taking what the opening is and not going into it what you want to do, that’s when you get countered and knocked out 🤣 throw a couple of knees to the stomach first and see if you can control the arm THEN go for it.

@@pushpastpain7489 the reason people say it won’t work in a real fight is because the opponent could just ground slam you, which is extremely dangerous, especially if done on concrete. Under bjj rules, they aren’t allowed to do that, so many think it that the flying arm at shouldn’t be allowed either because of it’s unrealistic.

PARENTS: Don't let your kids practice this move. It's flashy and isn't safe. It completely depends on your opponent participating by allowing it. If they let go or slam, even if it IS illegal, it can snap their neck. Please, stop this.

Did he break the guys arm in the video? Looks to me like he didn’t even have time to tap! If that’s the case I think the guy is an asshole for trying to be flashy at the expense of a man’s arm.

It’s me doing the armbar. Couple of points to make here… 1. I didn’t break his arm, I instantly released when he tapped and he was completely fine. 2. It’s combat sports, do you think somebody is an asshole for knocking someone out in a kickboxing fight? If my opponent was hurt as part of a move that wasn’t deliberately to hurt him but to win the match, it would be unfortunate, but certainly called for considering he also signed up to a martial arts competition.

This move ought to be called the ‘flying neck break’. According to the commenter here - if you sign up for a competition in a combat sport, anything goes as it’s all about winning…. Too bad of you get hurt. If that’s the mentality of folks performing this stunt (instead of competing with due regard for your opponent’s health), then competitors should be taught to slam anyone trying a flying armbar on their head for their own protection. You break your neck? Too bad - you signed up for a competition in a combat sport…

If someone is doing a flying arm bar correctly and is proficient they would not know what hit them and not know to slam quick enough. Plus only trained fighters would know to slam down the natural reaction is to pull away. The risk is not tucking your head and fast enough which could cause a serious neck injury. Not worth the risk

No control of anything: he hurted him badly ! ! ! JJ and BJJ don't learn to avoid hurting opponent. Not a mystery that in judo for example, the opponent integrity is teached, chokes and locks are not thaught until a certain level and age is reached. It happens to me very often to not apply a technique and let it go because it would have been hamful to my opponent, and doing so missing the win. I often been harmed by bjj and jj practitioners, because of their lack of control, as we are, more often than not, by judo kyu (colored) belts.

THIS IS ME. And this comment section is CRAZY. Few things to clear up. 1. The guy was fine his arm did not pop at all, he was just in shock. I’ve never injured someone on purpose in any environment. I have no idea why people are acting like I just bashed some random guy in the street, we were competing in a combat sports match and he was bigger and older then my 16 year old self at the time. 2. People calling me dumb, maybe, orrr maybe you just have no idea about my athleticism and risk management. 3. People talking bout this wouldn’t work, opponent was just shit ect… he wasn’t shit, I’ve hit this move in competition more times than most of you have ever even competed and I never said I want to use a flying armbar in a street fight 🤣 4. People are criticising it because it's a reckless move that can, and has caused serious injury to both the intended target, and the person executing the move. Once you're commited with ground-free body momentum that neither you or your opponent can stop quickly, control goes out of the window, and while yes it's a competition, the purpose of it is not to cripple each other. I'm sure people will decide for themselves if it's "goddamn epic" or just reckless and foolish.
