We’re talking about being able to do this full-time, traveling around the world, living the life you want to live. It doesn’t have to mean some big chart it success…
It has to mean PERSONAL success, as you define it.
8. People Who Hear Your Music Are ACTIVELY Offering To Help You
This is probably the biggest indication of all.
Look, if you play your music for people even somewhat regularly, and nobody is offering to help you produce content, shoot your videos, telling THEIR friends about you, or anything like that…
7. You Know What It’s Like To Write / Record Until You’re Literally Nauseous
Rap coaches don’t talk about this enough.
Artists - if you have not been through a studio (or writing session) that pushes for so long you almost want to step into the bathroom and spill your guts…
There’s work to be done.
6. You Are Aware That The Chorus Is The Most Important Part of The Song
This is a HUGE one that separates the men from the boys.
There are a lot of artists that believe that the average fan consumes music like them.
And when I mean by this, is that they believe the average fan is listening to LA Leakers freestyles and 5 Fingers of Death on the daily and is only concerned with “bars bars bars”…
OR that they literally only listen to the beat and nothing else…
Neither is true.
5. You Can Identify The Different Between A Hit-Making Level Producer and An Amateur Producer
This is another HUGE music related one.
A lot of artists on the come-up I hear are choosing beats with weak snares, poor kick drum layering, or rickety sounding instruments.
When I run across an artist I think who’s going to make it, almost before they even start rapping I can tell they know something about music due to the quality of production.
4. You Enjoy Being The Center of Attention And / Or It Makes You “Break Out Of Your Shell”
The way this is worded might be a little touchy-feely or sound a little bit lame but TRUST me…
You’d be surprised how many so-called artists say they want to do music or are passionate about being a star and can’t even keep their composure when when asked to perform or play some of their tracks.
I’ve worked with a lot of very successful people from influencers with millions of followers to rich businessmen hosting seminars and regardless of if they were a bit shy ONE-ON-ONE…
3. You Are Not Very Judgmental About Different Forms of Music
NOTE: I said “very”… obviously there are plenty of artists who think that other artists are trash… BUT…
For the most part actual SUCCESSFUL musicians who do this FULL-TIME and collaborate alot…
2. You Have An Artistic Eye When It Comes To Graphic Design, Fashion, etc.
This is EXTREMELY underrated.
To be honest, when a rapper follows me Instagram, I can almost tell just by the thumbnail of their picture whether they are going to be successful or not.
I’m right like 70% of the time in the case. If I click their profile and scroll through a couple pictures… I’m right like 95% of the time.
1. You’ve Made A Decision That You Won’t Stop Until Die
This is actually underrated, believe it or not.
I see a lot of artists that continue to make music with no direction, no purpose, and go two, three MONTHS without doing anything to further their career.

I'm 13 and I'm planning on recording when I'm 15 so I have time to improve. But all I do is freestyle with my friends off your tips and I'm always getting offered help. And personally I don't want to just rap I'm gonna do every type of music when I make it. The olny thing I lack in is fashion. Me and my mom can't Orford anything besides used clothes so I never really get to pick what I were.

Is there any specific reason you want to wait till then to record? Cause I’m 13 too and I met a dude who wanted to help me record and I have gotten one song out so far, but I play it for people when I’m out with my homies and meet new people wanting to do music with me, so as long as you just get yourself out there I’m sure there will be several people who will want to help you record as long as people see the talent in you which comes through a lot of work, and I’m broke asf bro I feel you on the clothes 🤣

Daaammmn Drew you touch home with this one. I've broken many of those rules. Especially the confidence part. I get people willing to pay for me to rap and many other free offers for studio sessions and stuffs but I am not very confident showing people my songs cuz I either feel like I could have recorded it better or written say bar 4 better. I just keep thinkx of many ways in whc I would have made the song better that once I record it, I hardly ever listen to it or want my friends playx my songs around me.

All forms and styles from Chance the rapper, JID, Logic, to tech nine, hoodie Allen, yonas etc. but this year I actually invested in the stuff I need to record. I'm a 13 year old rapper, I started at 12. I used to write for hours on end, I would write like 5-6 songs a week and not even record them cause I didn't have any equipment at that time. I did that for months straight over and over, And I enjoyed every moment of it because I have seen every song I wrote, I got better each time. Now I'm still writing like 2-3 songs a week and not even recording them because I'll have a certain feeling about it, Or the beat wouldn't match the lyrics. About the part involving the beats, I heard that and I couldn't agree more. The beat is really important when It comes to rap, In my opinion I like more old school or fast trap beats. About the part where you relate to music emotional state, What I do is I'll do like 5 different types of rap. Lyrical, Old school, Club (type club) or Alternative rap, Or even singing in the hook. Even if I can't sing good it's not like Beyoncé singing. But I am SO DAMN DEDICATED TO THIS RAP GAME. I used to play games 24/7 and when I heard Eminem I was dedicated to be a big rapper, So that'd why I practiced. I made it on Spotify some months back and I'm going to do my first show October 29th. And keep in mind I'm only 13. My artist name is 2 Young and my goal is to change the rap game in a good way. Remember my name.

I've just recently started rapping in my own accent & I have realised that if I keep up the good work & deliver my flows on point then I'll definitely make it On the plus side I've been working on taking my time with my pen game & recording, beat making process Can I just add to your list ? The best way to make it as a rapper is to follow your gut & make what you listen to or like that culture because I started focusing more on my passion in 2017 & my beats are improving massively from spending that 4 + years in my bedroom making records mostly trap ones but what definitely helped me with my writing process is the discovery of this channel back in 2014 I've realised I'm not a multi symbol rapper or a punchline king I'm more about telling a good story & mostly come alive when I step into to take my mind away from my daily struggles or doubts but if anyone was to meet me in person I'm really shy until I let my creative juices flow over a kick or the snare Thanks drew

Idk if I’m 100% with you about the chorus thing. I understand it and I can write hooks but I’ve become a big fan of the no hook style like Wu Tang. I guess it’s easier to write no hooks if you know how to write hooks, a lot of times they will add hook elements in the verses.

@@dmp-9734 I am a man of science and never been religious at all but like to study religions and the more I learn about both science and religion the more I believe they are one and the same. I’m following a path of truth, conscientiousness, responsibility, love, and unwavering faith that what I get out of life will be equal or greater than the efforts I put in. The source of creation is in me as it is in all things and if you want to call it God then I’m fine with that, we may never know the true nature of the creator and it is probably far beyond anyones comprehension. God bless you too man, thank you

I genuinely relate to the last one. So many people have told me this music path is the harder one, and that making these choices rather than living the average 9-5 will make it more of a struggle to be successful, but I've always known that everyone has a different sense of what satisfaction in life is, and mine is with music, no matter how much harder it'll be. I haven't let a single person deter me from my dreams and it's gonna stay that way as long as I live.

I think I relate to number one a lot Because when I was a kid all I would do is freestyle and sing And to my parents to me I couldn't do it I do it I mean become a singer because that's originally what wanted I do And then I stumbled across the videos around 2017-2018 But I was still scared to even write anything I'm going around 2019 I found my favorite rapper at the time The rapper name rav and the song was you fuckers were asking for this one When I heard that I knew I wanted to be a rapper I started writing I wasn't that great when I started I'm a little bit better now definitely better than when I started but I still knew I needed to get better so I stopped playing video games / OverWatch 2 And Decided to get better at writing

Man all facts! Resonate with a lot of these and especially 1 . I’ve always been a music nerd and been a fan of artist and making music, along with instruments and the whole deal. The more I go into it the more I CAN NOT stop. It’s a literal urge that I gotta keep up on now, no way I’m not doing this till I die… once that door is opened it’s hard to see it closed 🫶🔥

6 months in and I am over here getting offers, maybe I have talent, I think, also learned real quick how to draw up a contract. This channel here is not my rap channel though, this www.youtube.com/@j.b.hannibal is... I just am doing this for fun, then people showed up, and now I am an andutl who needs a more adult adult. However like anything else if I am doing it I am all in. Yeah it is weird, my social anxiety is nearly gone now. I am not even out and about popular etc but it somehow killed it mostly. My other side hobby is 3D artist and other types of artist.
