I am glad I saw this video. I will be tent camping there Monday night of June 17th and Tuesday night of June 18th. I need to make reservations now and hope it is not too late. Otherwise I will be stuck camping way out in Desert View

Yeah, I hope you can get a spot. It does get pretty crazy busy there. If nothing is available at Mather, maybe there is a better option for tent camping somewhere nearby. Best of luck and thanks for watching.......................AO

Thanks so much for your video! We will be staying at Mather Campground for a few days in June and it was really nice getting to see a review from regular folks. We're renting an RV (our first time) and doing a few other parks (Mesa Verde, Bryce Canyon, Zion) on this same trip before heading to Vegas for a few days. Any other recommendations for things to do or see while we're there? Our youngest will be nine and we will also have my Mother-in-law who is in her ... well, she's older but she's pretty fit -- we want to be sure we don't miss anything while not over-exerting ourselves.

Glad you found it helpful. Sounds like you have a great trip planned! I think you guys will be seeing truckloads of awesome stuff. We haven't been to Zion or Bryce or Mesa Verde yet, but we hear folks saying their favorite places are those UT canyons. I don't have any other recommendations for you - but if I think of something, I will post here to you. Have a ball! .........................AO

Is it allowed to hang protective food bags (to prevent squirrels, mice, ravens, crows from getting at your food) from trees. Great video; love the Elk!

I don’t think so. It could get chilly, but you should be fine with a standard sleeping bag. Just check the be predicted lows for the area to make sure! Have fun

hmm...i had to reserve our spot for Thanksgiving weekend. it was not first come first serve, unless that applies after TG.

We weren't very specific - sorry about that! I see that peak season is from March 1 - Nov. 30th and one would need reservations then. Those few winter months are the only time it is first come-first served. Anyway - You're there now having a great time I hope! Happy Thanksgiving.

What are the generator hours? Is it noisy because of the generators? We will bring our generator because we need electricity.

I don't know the generator hours. Contact the CG or you may be able to find that info on the website for Mather CG. Hope you have a great trip.

I would visit the website and make sure. It's been a while since we were there and I don't know for sure. But I do know that there is a CG there for RV's called Trailer Village. We did not stay at Trailer Village, but it's an option. Have a great time!

Hello, there are bears there. Is it safe from thefts, are people helpful? Because, i going alone in a tent...and I'm a bit scared, just a bit ....jajajajaja

Hey Evi! I think there are bears there (black bears) but not 100% sure. I think if you keep your food in your car trunk you will be good as far as that goes. Just don't put food in your tent! Of course. As far as concerns about thefts - we left our popup open all the time there. There were lots of tent campers and there is not really a way to secure your stuff when tent camping. Overall - I would say that people there are minding their own business and your stuff should be safe. There are so many people there that it's gonna be "safe". And I find that campers will look out for each other to help with any problems and make sure we are all OK. So, go visit Mather CG and the Grand Canyon and don't be afraid! Just enjoy it to the fullest.

+Evi Bjj After dark, It is not safe to store food in the trunk of your car, you should totally look for Bear canisters or food lockers. Bears can easily smell food from your car. Please reach out to National park visitor center on information about how and where to store food. +Andersons Outdoors Please do not suggest information if you know it for sure. don't hesitate to refer people to national park visitor centers.

Thanks for your comment, Shibu. I'm a pretty safety conscious guy and very aware of wildlife and the risks they pose. I've hiked 100's of miles of wilderness in the west. Bear safety is no joke! However, in all our research and prep for our trip to the Grand Canyon, we did not encounter any warnings about bears. Most places you go will be totally up front about this - if it is even a remote issue in that area. NPS especially. I totally agree with reaching out to the NPS wherever you travel to see what you need to plan for. That being said, there are no bear boxes in the Grand Canyon. I can tell you that most people are keeping food in their cars and RV's there. Don't ever keep food in your tent, of course, no matter where you are camping. That could invite problems - ants, rodents, etc. And in bear areas, you are just asking for trouble. Here is a link to the NPS page regarding potential issues at the Grand. Looks like the squirrels are to be more feared than anything. www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/bc-food-storage.htm
