You might find yourself driving fast if you’re late for work, need to be on time for an appointment, or want to get to your destination as quickly as possible. Even if you stay under the speed limit, there are certain things that can put you at risk of an accident and should be avoided.
For instance, blaring out your favorite songs while driving fast might not be such a good idea. A 2013 study conducted at Ben-Gurion University in Israel tested 85 teenagers on their driving skills while listening to music. While listening to their favorite songs, 98% of them made errors. While listening to easy-going music like soft rock or jazz, only 77% of them made mistakes. If you’re driving fast, it’s best to keep the radio off. If you wanna learn how you can drive fast and be a responsible driver for yourself, your passengers, and other cars in the vicinity, watch our new video!
TIMESTAMPS:
Turning the steering wheel incorrectly 0:56
Coasting 1:48
Not keeping your eyes on the road 2:45
Distracted driving 3:46
Listen to your favorite tunes 4:33
Staying too close to other cars 5:22
Driving fast despite bad weather conditions 6:30

SUMMARY:
- If your airbag is deployed while you are turning your wheel with an incorrect movement, the force of the airbag could send your hand flying into your face and cause serious damage.
- Coasting can be accomplished by holding down the clutch pedal or setting the car’s gear in neutral.
- In a 6-second period, drivers who text take their eyes off the road for 4.6 seconds, in which time a pedestrian could cross the road, traffic could come to a full stop, or an animal could get in the way.
- A study conducted at Memorial University of Newfoundland found that listening to loud music can slow down someone’s reaction time by 20%.
- Loud music isn’t the only thing that can distract you! Your favorite songs (at a normal volume) can also do the trick.
- The recommendation is to double or even triple your distance between cars. A good way of judging this distance is if the car ahead of you passes a landmark, it should take 6 seconds before you pass it.
- When the weather gets bad, like when it’s raining or when a huge amount of falling snow threatens your visibility, it’s time to slow down. Unfortunately, not everyone does that.
- If you hold the steering wheel with one hand or hold it lower than recommended (perhaps at the “8 and 4 o’clock” positions), this will lessen your control of the car.

I started leaving the amount of distance you recommended between myself and the vehicle ahead of me but cars kept cutting into the space, so I would fall back from them. After awhile I was back where I started. I didn't give up though. Now I just go in the opposite direction of my destination and sooner or later I get where I wanted to go.

I never have that problem continuously. I also don't care about being "first", which seems to be a problematic mentality. I can fall in behind people and while tailgaters rear-end people who suddenly stop, I won't. While tailgaters have to stay in a traffic jam on side-streets, I gave myself enough room to do a u-turn. Best of all, I stay alive and don't have to buy cars or go to the collision shop constantly. Isn't that worth it?

Here's mine: Do not alter the way you drive, when you're near a semi. Most people are scared of driving near a semi so they suddenly speed up, slow down, change lanes, or otherwise drive unpredictably. Being unpredictable is what makes driving near a semi dangerous. Remember: the average semi driver will have much, much more experience on the road than the average non commercial driver.

This whole vid is so wrong, it’s painful! I‘m from Germany, we drive 140+mph every day to work. 8.) Hand position: 9/3 yes, but how would you possibly CROSS your hands at high speed?!? You only use that at tight turns in very slow city situations, like parking etc. 7.) coasting: same. You’d put a car in neutral at high speed?!? Total BS 6.) Eyes on road: Who in their right mind would take their eyes off the road for 4.6 sec.? That’s 1.600 yds travelled, at only 75 mph. If you really do that, you deserve the Darwin award (look that one up) 5.) „distracted driving“: Kinda agree with the point in general, but, really, look up 170db. No way any stereo does that. 3.) distance: 2 sec rule is just fine. 6 sec, again, at 60 mph equals 0.1 mls or 176 yrd. Show me anybody who keeps almost 2 football distance at that “speed”. Again, if your reaction time is 3 seconds, better stay at home, for everybody’s sake. 2.) bad weather: Really? In snow, it’s slippery? Duh. And, in dry conditions, at 60 mph, a car breaks in 100ft, not 240. If you can’t do that, again, stay at home or learn to do it. 1.) see 8.) Complete and utter nonsense.

8 Things You're Actually Doing Wrong When Driving Fast 8: Staying under the speed limit. You're not driving fast, if you're not going above the speed limit. 7: Not looking far enough forward. Keep the look out for cars changing lanes, people j walking, and hot chicks to honk your horn at. 6: Not cutting corners. Racing line is the fast line. 5: Straight? If you're in snow or on gravel, going sideways through tight corners can be faster. 4: Not knowing your car. If you want to drive fast, you got to know how fast your car can go. 3: Not checking your car. Oil, tires, coolant, lug nuts to name a few, are all stuff you have to know are up to spec before driving fast. 2: Shutting off your engine too fast. Wait a minute or two at idle after pushing your car before you shut it off, especially if it's turbocharged. 1: Not having fun. Driving fast is one of the most fun things you can do, so go enjoy yourselves!

When the car is travalling fast down hill, take your foot of the throttle pedal. When the engine is above 1200rpm and the throttle closed the ECU will turn off the supply to the fuel pump until the engine rpm falls back below 1200 rpm or when you put your foot back on the throttle pedal. Thus you can save fuel and stay legal and safe. Also slow down earlier to lessen the need to use brakes, taking your foot of the gas pedal. You will GoD willing reduce fuel consumption.
@onyxbackstrom3379
@onyxbackstrom3379 Жыл бұрын
I'm not car engineer or anything but I think a correct way to explain is that your PCM will tell your fuel injectors not to pulse, thus yes not needing the fuel pump, but your fuel pump will always keep the right fuel pressure, so let's say in the moment that you are going downhill and the ECM tells the injectors to stop firing, well the fuel pump should keep that fuel pressure then the pressure build back up, as if it was a cold start turning they key from accessory to start. Like when you hear that hum before you crank it. the ECM turns off the fuel injectors not the pump itself.

I am not a driver due to a disability issue, but I have been behind the wheel of plenty of go-carts. Same rules should naturally apply. What I am grateful for is being able to master the concept of coasting. The way most turns are set up, is the center lane, which is always a left turn, or the right lane, which is usually either the 'quick right' at the intersection, or the designated right lane created by the road design. As a by-stander, or pedestrian, I've seen way, way too many people mess up on the left turn, or, like you said, drivers that either aren't paying attention, or shouldn't be behind the wheel. It's been said that the state of Washington on track level, is one of the worst states to drive in, and I completely agree w this statement.

That rule to keep an approximate distance of 6 seconds is completely outrageous... it should be ~2 sec bcs the average time from seeing a situation and acting upon it is way less than 2.5 sec. Rather sub 1 sec is a realistic approach. That's the way it's tought in german driving school and from some time driving as a learner now that is totally sufficient even without having much experience... If you calculate in MPH and yards your distance should approx. equal your speed (that's including tolerances). Also a normal car brought to an emergency stop (breaking with all your energy at once, stomping the pedal) from 60MPH takes about 160' + ~60' (breaking + reaction) not 240'.

Go on an advanced driving course or track session with a professional driver, they may teach you to drive fast, but you will probably drive slower afterwards - because most people then realise they are not as good a driver as they think they are.
@morgfarm1
@morgfarm1 5 жыл бұрын
I'm trained to handle speed a little better than most. But I've long abandoned the 10 and 2 position for the 9 and 3 because that's how racing drivers hold the wheel for optimal control on all courses. We don't even have airbags; we just like the leverage it gives us. One key thing is ALWAYS look as far ahead as you can; not just to the end of your nose. When taking curves, look toward the apex of the next turn you're going into. If you can't see it, you should probably slow down. If you have to be close to another car, brake before they do; you must ALWAYS brake before the car head of you when in close proximity. (Racing example: 2 cars doing 160 into a turn (whichever speed measurement you want, I'm going with MPH here) and you're a foot from each other, the guy behind HAS to brake before the guy ahead otherwise the guy behind will drive right through the lead car. And if something happens that you should start to lose grip at either end, DO NOT panic, do NOT slam on the brakes. Roll out of the throttle and gently roll into the brake. If you're too far gone, you're too far gone, but if you're just a little bit faster than you're supposed to be, smooth and gentle responses can bring you back. If the back end starts go step out, just roll out and give a tiny amount of counter steer until it's corrected. Overcorrection is a major factor in accidents in wet weather; The back end will come around and as you counter the slide, the back end finds sudden grip and snaps around the other way, it's nearly impossible to catch unless you've already started to counter the rebound spin the split second it bites.

If you are always driving fast you may fall into this bad habit when City driving, and it's Dangerous! Fast drivers look further up the road due to the fast speed, therefore you have to be careful you don't do this in the City. You will go right through the red light that is closer to you, but you are looking at the green light the next block up. This has happened to me, and a race driver told me why it happened. This can happen especially if you are approaching a slight hill further up the road. Know this and be safe.

I live in a very small town so the majority of my driving is on highways. I usually set my cruise control to about 3-4 mph over the posted limit in some places and the correct speed the rest of the time and it always amazes me how many cars catch up and pass me. They are mostly doing 10-15 over the limit...sometimes even more. Haven't these people got caught yet? It is a well known highway for fatal accidents so it is well patrolled, but people insist on driving FAST. By the way, you only save a few minutes in a 100 mile journey for every 10 mph you go over the limit. Is it worth it?

I tell people that, due to my ADHD, it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to maintain TOTAL FOCUS on the road (unless it's bad weather or rush hour); if I try, I'll end up focusing on 50 different things. So, I INTENTIONALLY divide my attention between the road & something else, (like what’s on the radio or talking, NOT TEXTING, on the phone); that way, I'm focusing on 2 things instead of 50! Also, TOTAL SILENCE makes me VERY NERVOUS, so music helps me relax.

Most speed limits should be higher simply because what should be the recommended speed limit(according to the experts paid to decide) generally gets lowered for political reasons. Having people drive too slowly in comparison to what people think should be the appropriate speed limit leads to risky driving and people driving at different speeds, so having the speed limit set at the right level is often safer than lowering it to make certain groups happy.

Err... actually, pushing and pulling at speed is probably the most ineffective thing you can do. And is actually dangerous. At speed your hands need to react faster and pushing and pulling provides a rotation that's far slower then the crossover method. Hence why race drivers don't push and pull.

Darren Small lol when the speed gets higher you need less momentum on the wheel, only low speed turns need a lot of wheel input. You could send your car straight of the road using your index finger at highway speeds whilst it would be incredibly hard to turn on a parking lot using the same finger and force.. 😂

Slow drivers are the cause of more vehicle accidents than fast drivers. People get frustrating sitting behind people going less than the speed limit so are far more likely to overtake in places they otherwise wouldn't. Seriously slow drivers shouldn't be allowed to drive, if your not comfortable doing the speed limit then your clearly not a good enough driver to be on the road. As an anecdotal side note, l tend to find slow drivers don't know how to use blinkers properly and take longer to react to everything around them. So yeah if your a slow driver please get out the scissors and cut up your licence,it will make the world a tiny bit better for the rest of us.
