the most important thing is not mentioned, cats are not toys, you cannot play with them when ever you want, they decide what they want to do, you don't just love them and expect them to love you back

Even though she loves cat and wants one, i feel like she is too young and immature. So the mother should allow her to have a cat after a while like When she is a bit older to Understand the responsiblities.

Our neighbours kids wanted a cat many years ago. My family was going on vacation so we put the neighbour's kid on a trial run for their parents as they were to take care of our two cats at the time for a week with no parental help. I suggest instead of getting her a cat have her look after someone else's cat who is on vacation to see if she is ready for one.

At the point where the mum said that Sophia sometimes scares their friends' cats everybody should be against the idea of her having a cat right now. She needs to mature and learn how to control her love for cats. If she gets one right now she might get hurt if she scares the cat too much.

@@lisa4life0 if you give a child a cat to teach it responsibility and the child doesn't know how to control its emotions towards the cat, the cat could easily get annoyed and/or scared and scratch the child. Cats can be great pets for the children to grow up with, but the parents have to make sure the child doesn't bother the cat too much.

I’m not so sure about that. Maybe waiting till her 10th birthday would be a good idea but having a cat can have so many benefits. Their care is not very hard and some children are ready to commit. Plus her mother isn’t firmly against it, seems like although she would prefer her to care for it she would be quite willing to take over if necessary. I suggest giving her at least 1 or 2 months of commitment on her room as well as researching and working on caring for a plant and/or volunteering at an animal shelter or pet siting though.

I don't think cats are so much work. You just need to feed them. They clean themselves, they go to the litter box if they need to, they don't need humans to play with them like dogs, etc.

@@Yusso Even though cats aren’t as much work as dogs, they still require a lot of attention and care. They do clean themself, though some shed everywhere so one has to be willing to clean all that hair. It’s true that cats are more independent than dogs, but they still need attention from humans else they get bored and misbehave. Just like dogs, they need to be taught not to poop everywhere and not to do certain activities (like jumping on the counter or scratch everyone that they come across). It’s a lot of work because cats usually don’t respond as well as dogs do. People should be aware that both cats and dogs require a ton of responsibility and dedication, and shouldn’t be a decision made without thinking.

@@Yusso many cats espeicially younger ones should be played with till they are tired like 10-30 minutes with a feather/wand toy. Some will enjoy going out once harness and leash trained should be walked. Litter boxes will need to be cleaned (like pee pads thrown if used for dogs).

If she does get a cat she needs to know that they aren’t stuffed animals and that they don’t always like attention. My family (cousins and grandma) have their own cats and they like alone time sometimes so the fact that she scares her neighbors cat sometimes is a no for me.

To the mom, I would suggest having Sophia first take care of the neighbor’s cats a bit. During this, Sophia should be supervised by mom or the cat’s owners, so mom or owner can guide her and make sure she understands what not to do. After Sophia has shown understanding of how to take care of and treat a cat, I would then suggest going to a shelter and having her introduced to a kitten under supervision. This way mom can see if Sophia truly learned how to handle cats, and see how she gets along with the kitten she picked out. If things don’t go well with the kitten visit, Sophia might need to wait a year or two until she matures a bit more. Would love to see an update video later.

they can also try taking care of foster cats for a "trial period" and adopt them if it goes well.. cause tbh babysitting a pet usually doesn't involve that much care, most of the really important stuff comes in when you've had a pet for a long time. for example, cleaning, vet visits, etc. babysitting a pet usually only involves feeding them and playing with them and if it's cat probably not even cleaning their litterbox (but I can't say for sure because I have a dog haha.) but babysitting her friends' cats is probably a better way to start

I agree...Sofía, you need to keep up your responsibilities (keeping your room clean), and right now, you're too exuberant for a cat. Maybe a kitten. Maybe in another 2 or 3 years

If you've had a cat, kittens are way harder to take care of and need much more attention. Adult cats are pretty chill and independent.

I'm similar to Sophia in that I've wanted a cat for years but have never gotten one(yet). However, I'm glad that my family choose not to allow me to have a pet, and for the same reasons I believe it's best to wait for Sophia to wait to get one. It's lovely that she displays such love and care already, but it's going to be tough taking care of a entire living thing. She's not yet mature enough to understand nor handle that.

cats aren't toys, you can just pick it up every second of the day and cuddle it and squeeze it. Sophia could end up getting hurt because the cat might not like that and she will get scratched

as a person who has 3 indoor cats (also takes care of strays) and walks them out 3 times a day and they still give temper tantrums I know it's a lot of effort get her a cat she needs to learn to take care of something from a young age BUT prepare for a lot of work :D

I remember my aunt buying this two lil tortoise And my cousin who was 8 at the time just saw them as something to play with.. and endup throwing that lil animal. And literally picking them up and playing flight flight with them It was scary to watch. I don’t think there should be any pets in house just coz kids want to have one.. Instead just show them outside and let them play outsider with proper guide. Like that they can have some practical information on how to treat them.. and further u can decide to have them home

it's wrong to assume that only the girl will have the responsibility, cause she just can't, no matter how mature she behaves. her mother also has to learn about cats, she has to do the veterinary stuff and think about the cat's costs. and, as she's a mother, she will be much better at learning the cat's language, and she has the responsibility to teach that to her daughter. an animal in the family is never just one person's thing.

I am with sophia because having a pet will make her learn more about responsibility at a young afe its will also make her understand how to care because animals need care she will also love it do much I can see that she wants the cat so bad and by her talks I don't think she is that immature abd many people dont clean there room when they are 18 or 19 so then also is her mom going to say she is no responsible enough so I am at sophia's side

I'm thinking about a trial where Sophia has to take care of someone else's cat (like her cousin's) for two weeks and then she definitely will find out how complicated it is and hopefully strengthen her resolve to dedicate her time for a cat. For the first timer, it's all about the thrill, but when you get to nurture a living being for years you'll need more than that

My cats pretty much take care of themselves but there is still a bunch you have to do with a cat so they do not destroy everything. It does help to have two of them so they entertain each other.

I knew that Sophia's arguments aren't the best from the 1st round. I feel like she didn't even memorize what she's gonna say, she didn't plan what she was going to say when she was arguing. Though her mom, had great points and I jsut love how she was so straightforward. I think Sophia's mom wins this debate.

I have 2 cats and they do cause a bit of problem but i love them alot their hair harm alot and we have to clean their litter daily or they loop around somewhere you don't EXPECT and yeah you have to comb them 3 times a day (persian i think so cuz i have Persians ) and they scratch during taking a shower

My cousin really wanted a dog and she have been convincing her parents and her parents finally said yes but she had to keep the promise of cleaning the dogs poo and when they got a dog she only cleaned the poor for 2 days and my cousins parents had to clean the poo- that’s why I don’t want a pet Bec I don’t want to not keep the promise-

I think the point of the debates are totally lost until we can get judges who arent gonna be skewed already or swayed with emotion instead of actual judgement... I've watched a few episodes already... I know its all fun and games but... that cat might suffer as a result of this poor judgement in the long run...

I got a dog for my 9th birthday and I promised I would take care of it. I have taken care of it since that day and I love to watch it grow. He is the cutest thing ever and now my parents know I’m responsible enough. I think she is good to have a cat and responsible. Maybe for her 9th or 10th birthday? I recommend if you want to see if she’s responsible enough to get a fake cat that looks real and see if she can take care of that first. If it all goes good maybe she can get a cat.

I don’t think she should get a cat. Especially a kitten because she’s just naming the basics like feeding, you’re not supposed to bathe cats, and that it’s cute. A cat would get so stressed with her as it’s owner. She also doesn’t seem very passionate. I am an adult and I still have a hard time taking care of my animals.
