Hey guys In this weeks video Ill show you how to paint laminate countertops. I just painted my own kitchen countertops to give the old brown laminate countertops a fresh look. I have tried this before on some scrap countertops and finally had a chance to do a full kitchen . I used the rustoleum protective enamel in gloss black, gloss white and gloss almond. This is an experiment on my countertops but so far they are holding up! Thanks for watching !

If you want to create marble, use a feather and drag and twist across the surface. Add smaller veins coming off the the main one. Vary the pressure as you twist and drag. Always use a sea sponge. Twist and rotate and use all sides to avoid repetition. Layer colours dark to light. Seal with an eco self levelling resin when it’s dry otherwise it will wear off. 😊 YW

*note paints used NOTES from other watchers per pixkeyser: _You need to prime first with Styx primer! That finish will fail._ per Aunty Doris: _if you want to create marble, use a feather and drag and twist across the surface. Add smaller veins coming off the the main one. Vary the pressure as you twist and drag. Always use a sea sponge. Twist and rotate and use all sides to avoid repetition. Layer colours dark to light. Seal with an eco self levelling resin when it’s dry otherwise it will wear off._ per J Erickson: _Bondz (or other high bond) primer & epoxy top coat (or some sort of poly, even mod podge) = more durable, longer lasting finish for any1 not seeking a short term result. Filling in + sanding flush dents/cracks turned out to make a huge difference (some use bondo, I prefer DryDex)._ _No top coat at all leaves worry of food safety.. It's 'protective enamel' but it's certainly not intended to be in touch w/food. (Rustoleum recently told an angry me, protective enamel sprays +liquids are near identical to the regular products!). Doubt any1 w/refinished counters preps food on bare counter.. But even casual contact for brief times can result in some leaching, which can be surprisingly dangerous._ _I frequently use products other than intended >> seal when necessary. Epoxy is inert plastic once cured, so I went that route to protect finish, food safety & prevent issues w/cleaners, tapes, etc. Clear flood coat is easy+pretty cheap. Polycrylic worked ok on a table, but didn't hold up super long. To seal w/polycrylic after the fact: clean well with degreaser/polycrylic can be painted or rolled on & cures quick!_

Congrats re the final product! You are surprisingly honest with us. With respect, you could also consider a large feather. Why? These help you do the lines in marble, if this is what y’re going for. Major hardware stores should have. Great experimenting. Good for you man. Your final product looks rather amazing. Congrats man🙂. Cheers.

I was nervous too! But i figured anything would look better then the ugly brown. Now i cant attest for the longetivity of this because it was an experiment and we sold the home like 3 months after i did this but it looked good until we sold.

Looks nice and finish might good to be honest but if this guys are professionals in this kind of work they should use paint kettle(s) to pour the paint and clean the paint tin. That is unprofessional in the first place. In second the should protect the surrounding units like fridge and cooker etc, third the should protect the flood for any drips of paint that may occur and mostly because is enamel paint and forth in ridiculous pour the paint in the countertop and then use the brush and the roller to spread it. For that is tombs down for me regarding the paint procedure and protection. I am a Painter and Decorator in UK and is not a good example for colleges in our profession. This guys they should know that unless are Cowboys which doesn't look the case. Work they did is pretty cool is tombs up.

Any idea how this holds up with placing warm things on the counter? I think you said you used it in other homes? What if something hot/warm is placed on the counter?
@BryanBuilt
@BryanBuilt Жыл бұрын
probably not well if its like a hot pot or pan . since the countertops are laminate but i think warm it would hold up we would set plates on it and it was fine.

It will definitely last if a resin varnish is used. It’s amazing what new products are available. I thought the same but learned from an outdoor artist that you can get brush on sealer. His installation was in Manchester U.K. I will find my tin and update this comment for you. Also I will find his IG handle. 😊
