Thank you for bringing back memories of my ride from Pittsburgh to Washington DC in 2010. The ride through Great Falls was definitely one of the highlights! See you around Boston, Galen! (and nice to meet you, Koaw)

Good thing you went when you did. White’s Ferry was shut down last week, probably permanently.

Oh man. Thanks for the update. I had heard wind of that. I'll see if that's a permanent thing and make a note.

Looks like a private dispute between the land owners has caused White's Ferry to shutdown. Permanent...we don't know yet. wtop.com/montgomery-county/2020/12/whites-ferry-river-crossing-in-montgomery-co-ceases-operations-after-court-decision/

Wow! What an adventure! What kind of tires do you need for a dirt path like the canal? Did the fisherman keep his catfish? Is the canal water clean enough to eat from? Are you a convert? Have you been reaching for your bike instead of a car?
@KoawNature4 жыл бұрын
Hey Sarah! 1. Those dirt paths are easier with wide tires with less air pressure. 2. The fisher gave his catfish to some other boys that weren't catching anything. It was going to be a dinner. 3. Yes! I totally have much more respect for riding a bike. In fact, I went on a nice bike ride this morning along some paths in my city. Thanks for the questions!

Its amazing the animals dont run from you. I get close and they run.
@KoawNature4 жыл бұрын
Many still run from me. =) But yeah, I've spent my whole life 'stalking' animals so I've gotten pretty good at understanding how to approach many creatures. Good to hear from you again Darran.

Bummer Daniel. Yeah, another viewer just brought this up to me and I added a link to an article I found in the first comment. It appears a land dispute has shut it down. wtop.com/montgomery-county/2020/12/whites-ferry-river-crossing-in-montgomery-co-ceases-operations-after-court-decision/

Could you or your friend please share the GPX of this trail with us? I’d love to use it!
@KoawNature2 жыл бұрын
I've never generated GPX. It's easy enough to Google Maps. From DC to VA it's Custis Trail to Washington and Old Dominion Trail. Then cross Potomac River at White's Ferry (though this ferry may be CLOSED due to landowner disputes). Then on the Maryland side it's Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath all the way to DC.
