WABC!!!!!!!!! The 4:30 Movie had just ended its stellar 13-year run on channel 7 the day before this commercial set on November 26,1981 (Thanksgiving), to be replaced by the same programs this promo set advertised, The People's Court and a 5:00 edition of Eyewitness news. It was a sad day in New York TV history. Planet of the Apes (shown later on here) was a huge deal on there! Our interpid WABC voiceover guy sure had a lot of work on this set of commercials. I wish I knew his name. Finally, a special treat with the WABC Late Movie intro. The music was by Alan Parker entitled Unlimited Love, from the KPM production music library. This intro was only used on weeknights.

I swear the guy who throws the newspapers out of the van in the Absence of Malice commercial looks like Richard Dean Anderson. And hell, so does it in the Today's FBI preview.

He was in that episode of "Today's FBI": www.imdb.com/title/tt0725960/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_i7 I really doubt it was him (or anyone famous) throwing the newspapers, though.

This was in the days of the Bell System monopoly. You had to either rent a phone from them or pay a monthly fee to use your own phone.

80sCommercialVault You're correct. We had a South Central Bell store at our mall and you could rent a phone, or buy one.

The "Absence of Malice" trailer in this volume seems WAY better than the trailer posted in a recent set of commercials. I want to watch it as soon as I can. Bill Cosby was one of THE best spokespersons ever...this Coca Cola ad just shows him doing his selling thing. I think you are onto something with the "key party" vibe in the Halston spot -- makes sense. By the mid 1980s the "nightlife" vibe of his lifestyle brand was basically kaput. 22:09 I live for these local movie of the week/ late movie graphics....**sigh**

In the "Fridays" end credits, one of the writers is Larry David the same guy famous for "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm".

17:10 - That's Chip Zien, the voice of Howard the Duck in the 1986 George Lucas-produced film! He's also an accomplished Broadway actor, best known for originating the role of the Baker in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods.
