Yeah, this one was the follow on video from the 80s monster trucks summer photo shoot that we done last week..... we are totally shocked as that ones hit 1.5k views already!!!! I know not everyone is into shelf queens, but these restored models hold a fond place in many peoples heart that grew up around this period. The furry chicane?!! 🤣 😂..... bless her, the only way she was going to move was with a gentle tap with the bumper! Yeah mate, no real damage.... Just a bit of a clean up needed, luckily the water level in the pond was very low after no rain last week..... just bad driving on my part! But, I did enjoy a little raz around the garden with the 959..... got me thinking about maybe setting up a small rally track out there? Many thanks matey! Yeah, these rally icons were very popular in the UK back in the day.... I had a 959 back in 89 and always regretted selling it in the early 90s. So when I got back into the hobby 30 years on I embarked on a mission to find one and restore it to it's former glory! Not an easy task as finding new parts is so hard/expensive now as they have never been re released. The project was a bottomless money pit, but we'll worth it in the end. Cheers for your kind words, those cockpits were an absolute pig to paint by hand using fine paintbrushes and cocktail sticks..... but once finished I'm sure you will agree that they really finish the build off nicely! Thanks for watching Pete! I know you're not a fan of shelf queens, but the fully restored 959 and celica are way too weak to drive (35+ year old brittle ABS)..... and cost so much money and time to get back to 'as new' condition. That's why I built the third car, so I could enjoy driving it. That ones not mint, and I have replaced many of the weak parts with aluminium hop ups (front and rear wishbones, hubs etc) It's a great drive, very unique in the way it handles just like a real porsche! As for the re release? 🤔 Some say they will, perhaps for the 50th anniversary..... there's certainly demand there. I'm not so sure myself, just hope that if they do re re it that it won't be on a tto2 chassis! As for the value of my originals, I don't think I will ever recover the horrific amount of money I paid out in parts to restore the two shelf queens..... but that's not what it's about for me, I certainly won't be selling them! 😉 👍 👍 👍 👍

Evening Bob! Yes indeed mate, spot on! Those that know 'know'!!!! As you can probably tell, both of the shelf queens shells/cockpits were painstakingly painted/detailed by hand using brushes and pot paints.... just how we used to do it back in the day(and how the instructions manual recommended!) That 959 is a pig to paint on the inside, so many crevices to get your brush up into, and of course all from underneath! Also being two tone, getting the blue and white to all line up without bleeding was a real nightmare! So much small detail to paint on as well, but I enjoyed the challenge mate.... they ain't perfect, but it's the best I can do with my dodgy vision and shaky hands! 🤣 Suprised you like the celica the best, this was always the least popular back in the day, hence very few have survived in good condition. @@yodadarksideGreenHawksRC I remember those days painting like that, sad news though, you can't buy brush on Lexan* paint here in the states (maybe some Pactra if you can find it). Forget Pro-Line Paints, they brush like crap. I'm not a Porsche fan so my choice was easy, LOL.

@@UncleBobsRC Same over here in the UK mate..... Luckily I still had a large stock of the original Tamiya polycarbonate paints from back in the day!!! The opened ones were no good as they had all gone solid, but the new pots were still fine after all these years! Tamiya paints were /are always expensive, but they do go on nicely for sure. Glad you like the celica man, it's definitely got a proper 80s look to it! Just working on the cars ready for tomorrow night, hopefully be putting the grasshopper, hornet and clod around the figure of eight for part 2 of our tamiya tescos time trials series.... should be fun! 🤣 👍 👍 👍 👍

Who knows mate..... Tamiya works in mysterious ways!! I know Gavin from rc kicks thinks this may be the case, he may well be right. I love mine and drive the runner often..... other two strictly stay on the shelf, I've invested too much time, effort and money into restoring then to risk damaging them! 😉 Cheers for watching dude. 👍 👍 👍

Yes indeed mate! All 3 of these cars are at least 30+ years old...... although not much of the original cars remain on the shelf queens as I had to replace so many parts when I restored them! The golden era of rc for sure. Cheers for watching and commenting fella. 😊 👍 👍 👍 👍

Hey fella! Tell me about it..... I gave £400 for a new body kit to complete the restoration on the mint 959.....thats either some serious inflation, or daylight robbery!! The TBG reproduction shell is actually very good, but In my search of perfection I just had to have a genuine one! The only non genuine part on the shelf queen 959 is the gold and red stripes..... it bugs me, but sure I will be able to track some down at a later date. Sounds like you have a great car there bud, not many about in near perfect condition..... do you drive it, or is she a shelf queen? These models are a serious money pit, the full restoration of the shelf queen 959, shelf queen celica and the runner 959 (made from left over parts) came to £2,3000!!!🤑 But, they are gorgeous models, and I'm pretty sure they will never be re released..... but who knows! Hiya Sean! Many thanks bud, soooo much time, effort and cash went into restoring/building these 3 total 80s icons. The runner 959 is a total joy to drive, and is run often. Unfortunately, it is also crashed often as well..... which is totally fine as I have the mint one as a shelf queen. Just a good job that the water levels were very low in my pond that day....
