The problem is, and to be a little fair, none of these younger people walking by would know what he was singing about anyway. As long as they have got their mobile phones ‘superglued’ to their ears and heads down ‘texting’, gaming or whatever they do on their phones nothing else in the world matters! No time for anything which would interfere with their ‘self important’ lifestyles! Unfortunately this is the world we live in right now and it is not going to get any better.

Hi Vincent, As a guitarist/singer for some 60+ years, I am posting my thoughts to YOU, many people may have walked past you in their desire to get from A to B without stopping for 5 mins out of their lives to watch, listen and reflect on life whilst you were playing and singing that beautiful Eric Fogle song. I have nothing but admiration and total respect for you and your rendition of the song and WHAT A GREAT JOB you made of it. With good folk like you, our servicemen and women across the wars will never be forgotten. Keep singing, keep playing and most of all keep well. TOTAL RESPECT 🎸🎤🙏🙏🙏 Paul🇬🇧

Best thing I ever heard was from a man who was showing the medals his grandfather and great uncle won in WW1, (both were killed at the Somme). When asked why he had such strong feeling for them, he replied: "First, those men wsent through hell with lid off."

Thank goodness all those boys and men that suffered and sacrificed their lives for us were not able to see the complete indifference of the people passing by. Bless them all but it was truly all done in vain. We do not deserve the world that they died for to give us.

American here, and prior military - though I will forever stop and get chills to Taps, as well as many of the commemorative songs that came about during the twenty year global war on terror - "Arlington" and "'Til The Last Shot's Fired" by Trace Adkins come to mind - I have a special place in my heart for Green Fields of France, I Was Only 19, and many other allied songs of and relating to war; many of them transcend generations and lines on a map, and this was a particularly beautiful rendition of this song. My eyes watered a bit, and I'm a bit stunned that no one stopped on the sidewalk.

Irish poeple are amazing. So proud, so kind. I fell in love with Ireland last year. I think is the most beautiful country in the whole world. I cry a lot when I think to Wicklow Mountains, when I remember how I felt small in front of Cliffs Of Moher, when I see pictures or videos like this. My biggest dream is to move in Ireland for the rest of my days. Thank you and greetings from Italy.

Thanks for posting those thoughts Grant - be assured, Remembrance Day will never fade - well certainly not in your lifetime. The events giving rise to Remembrance Day have become part of the anglosphere consciousness and folklore; its become embedded in music, poetry (see Siegfried Sassoon) and other literature (see Vera Britten's truly harrowing Testament of Youth). Fewer people may well attend Remembrance Day but the numbers were boosted so high during all those 2014 - 2018 centenaries that the numbers attending were always bound to fall back, but that does not mean Remembrance Day is falling out of the nation's collective folk-memory.

This is why it sad that remembrance day is fading. But it is hard to blame the newer generations when companies push holidays earlier each year, and the government pays less and less attention to the day. Schools do the worst by making the day an annoyance, my highschool has the EXACT same speech with the same guest soldier speaker who does the same thing every year. The only change is which three names are given the the empty chairs and the pictures on the slides for those names.
