Very informative. These videos help me gain the confidence to address many of the common problem areas I see all the time. Around 17 minutes when you have that nodule that I run into so often, that was a great strike. It came off clean which rarely happens for me. But now I cant wait to run into it again.

You always make flint knapping look so easy and simple! I watch videos and get inspired then go knapping for a few hours and turn everything to gravel lol. Your truly talented! I can’t wait till I can produce points consistently

The box of heat treated keokuk spalls I bought myself for Christmas does have a few clunky pieces. I've seen this video already but I'm watching again. This and the clunky rock video from a few years ago. And you were talking about learning knapping with hard difficult rock. That is the best description of the landscape cobbles I messed around with for the last 2 yrs. I would get one decent point for every 20 rocks I turned into smaller rocks.

Sorry I missed this comment. Yeah, difficult spalls are very frustrating for everyone, especially beginners. Keokuk is the exact opposite, so it will be a shock as well. But "easy" rock (like Keokuk) will more easily show you what you are doing wrong. Difficult rock will be confusing and you will not know if it's you or the rock.

Thanks! Man you are quick with the turn around from that comment I left. Haha. The pieces I am working with generally look like the one from 17:30 and as usual you made it look so easy. I kept running flakes over the bump or zig zag but at a bad angle I guess and It would either throw my center line off or snap in a bad spot. Thanks a ton, Patrick.

You're welcome. The hardest part for me was getting big enough flakes to make a difference. I could only make very short flakes when I first started knapping. I guess everyone starts the same way. It seems like a long time ago now. Don't worry. It gets easier.

What is the easiest Stone to work with besides obsidian I'm just starting out and I'm using Flint out of a creek I've even tried using an adze and some old by face blades I have found in the cornfield but it's extremely hard Stone. Here in Missouri we call it Merrimac Creek Rock I just moved here to Boone County and I know there's Jeff City chert here I just haven't had the chance to get out and find any yet so I'm just going to buy some rock to get me through the winter
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 3 жыл бұрын
The easiest stone is probably Dacite. It's related to obsidian but not as brittle.

What's exactly bulb of percussion
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 3 жыл бұрын
It is a fracture that resembles a bulb or rounded surface. It happens when force is applied to flint or glass with a hard, blunt object.
