Bill Walton's winning streak: 47 highschool+ 30 as a Freshman (my community college team was the only one to lead UCLA at the half)+ 88 on the varsity = 165 games without a loss.

The Only mistake John Wooden ever made was ruining Edar Lacy's basketball career.... In the Game of The Century at the Astrodome (Houston and UCLA) he refused to put Lacy back in after repeated pleas by Lacy. He quite the team the following week and Wooden refused to call him up and reconcile....

@@jmweed1861 I agree with your comment. Edgar helped get the 2nd title in 1965 against a very good Michigan Team with Cazzie Russell and Bill Buntin and Oliver Darden. Edgar played outstanding and out rebounded Buntin ( 2nd team All American ) Edgar was a sophmore on that team and Started . Of course that game was Gail Goodrich's night, 42 points and 18-20 ft's

@@stever1791 Actually after battling a knee injury, instead of coming back to UCLA he was encouraged to go to the NBA by Assistant Coach Jerry Norman, as the Boston Cetics had drafted him..He wanted to come back for that 5th Season at UCLA and win another NCAA Championship with Lew Alcindor....that is when John Wooden ruined the LA School Boy's Career. At the same time HS Player Bill Walton was watching the NCAA Tournament Game when Gail Goodrich scored the 42 points, and made up his mind to eventually go to UCLA. Obviously Walton would break that record in 1973 Against Memphis State with 44 points. I was a 2nd Team All State Player in Wisconsin at that time ( wore number 33 in honor of Lew Alcindor) and the Only Schools I wanted to go to were either Wisconsin or UCLA... Learned a lot from Seth Davis book, Wooden: a Coaches Life...

Also, I can remember everything about The Game of the Centery at the Astrodome and the Remach at the Semi Finals, won by UCLA in the Greatest Exhibition of College Basketball Ever. And if Bill Walton had not been such a Goof Ball by his Senior year, they (UCLA) would not have lost to Notre Dame to end the 88 game winning streak, or to NC State and won the 1974 NCAA Basketball Championship that year too.. Was also a Giant Pete Maravich Fan, and " tried" to do everything he did..People today do not know how good Maravich was....

@@jmweed1861 Maravich was GREAT !!!!. Lacy should have went with the Warriors , who drafted him after the Celtics ( He was drafted before deciding to come back for another year.) He Did sign with the LA Stars of the ABA - 2 seasons i think ). I can remember the Game of the Century as well as anybody. I was rooting for the Big E and was happy Houston won. The 1974 UCLA team was not as good or as well prepared ans NC State in that semi final game. David Thompson and 7'4" Tom Burtelson ( he played very good vs Walton that game). Phil Spence 6'7" forward was a senior and very good and so was Tim Stoddard ( MLB player for the Sox ) and 5'5'' Monte Towe. This team was a better team than the Bruins . the ACC prepared them for anything and the comeback was something that wasn't too difficult for them
