+805ROADKING sounds pretty good to me for a 100 year old engine ,, I am thinking the carburetor might not be large enough though ,, kinda sounds like it's starving for air
@wontputrealname8 жыл бұрын
Mustie 1 Three cyl engines with 120 degree crankshafts have rocking forces acting longitudinally and in a vertical up-and-down motion. The engine as it is placed demonstrates this perfectly. This is the reason why most modern engines with 3 throw crankshafts are fitted with a balance shaft or shafts.

John, Congratulations in getting the engine running. Sorry I wasn't able to visit with you last Saturday. The engine was direct connected to the boat propeller, and turned in either direction depending on which way you wanted your boat to go. Larry Cauffman, Masonville

Lol I noticed he must be right handed spinning cc instead of ccw in the last episode ( not that it makes a damn bit of diff on a 2 smoke) Many 2 strokes with the secondary clutch latch out are run backwards to reverse the drivetrain . Not far off on the fuel setup . Nice Farmall!!!!

I do know that some of the old Wisconsin V-4 engines used the Marvel-Schebler side draught carbs. I've forgotten the model number of those engines,..maybe VG4D or VH4D or something like that. So if anybody out there has some Wisconsin engine parts lying around they might be able to help John with this by contacting 805ROADKING. I seem to remember that the guys were spinning that engine the opposite rotation the other day, that might have had something to do with difficulty in starting. Or would that make any difference in this 2-stroke design Roberts. Great video ROADKING. !
@805ROADKING8 жыл бұрын
+Reg Sparkes Thanks Reg!! I doesn't matter which way it turns, Ya have to adjust the timing accordingly though!!☺
@regsparkes65078 жыл бұрын
+805ROADKING Yes, I was thinking later that that is the way some of the older, golf cart's reverse. They just reverse rotation, actually now that I think more,...so do Snowmobile's ... they switch engine timing , and bingo, you go backwards,.... I'd like to see John's engine all set up and purring with that water tank connected up and running.

Man, that sucker is a bucking bronco! Very cool considering that's probably the oldest engine I've ever seen run! The orchard application is pretty cool, but I gotta wonder what the boat it came out of looked like. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a guy out there with a wooden boat wishing he had the original Roberts 15HP engine to go in it!
@805ROADKING8 жыл бұрын
+MISTERComaToes You must have seen my 1912 Fuller and Johnson!!☺
@queenofyeay8 жыл бұрын
805ROADKING No, I hadn't! I actually didn't subscribe till your Pumpkin Chuckin vids How to weld cast iron was the first small engine project I saw you do a vid of. I'm embarassed now, you did a bunch of good vids. I've seen a few now, including the Fuller & Johnson ones, I especially like where you said "...'cause this is for prosperity" I smiled at that cause it was for posterity too!
@805ROADKING8 жыл бұрын
You missed all the good stuff!! That's when I was in my Prime!!☺
@Tchristman1008 жыл бұрын
I notice he's spinning it the opposite way compared to the first video. I know 2 strokes can operate either way. Does it run better this way?
@rheidtech8 жыл бұрын
i like
@AmericanLocomotive18 жыл бұрын
The Model T carb is probably causing a lot of the issue. Two-strokes have a very weak vacuum pulse compared to a 4-stroke, so 2-stroke carbs typically have much larger jetting than an equivalent 4-stroke carb.
@RobertPerrigoOkiechopper8 жыл бұрын
I noticed the rotation right off, but figured timing was set for rotation
@captainjerk8 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a 2-stroke! Nice job guys! LOL A bit off-balance maybe?
@misscrabstick8 жыл бұрын
So in the first video everyone was pulling the flywheel anti clockwise to start it, yet now it's running clockwise! It can go both ways I guess.
@805ROADKING8 жыл бұрын
+misscrabstick Yeah it's a 2 stroke, it just depends where you set the timing!!☺

Man doesn't mind being a cripple the rest of his life can stand on the ground and reach over and start a tractor engine. It's really no a problem. Unless it kills him then all bets are off. Just keep on doing it. By the way I love your engines.

just an additional thought if you ran a bigger diameter pipe on the exhaust you would have a lower but just as loud of sound like they go Fairbanks engines
@danw19554 жыл бұрын
Man, that's about a temperamental prick to start (especially with that small flywheel) I think your buddy John would be wise to get an old flathead Ford starter with a rubber wheel on the shaft to spin this thing without having to risk breaking a couple fingers or a wrist, when it finally decides to fire. Sounds pretty healthy once it's running though.😁 *EDIT:* Just had a funny thought... I'd hate to be in the middle of a lake and have to try to start this thing, especially with a direct drive prop attached. You'd probably waste less energy just rowing back to shore.🤣
@AimlessMoto8 жыл бұрын
in the other video were they boys spinning it counter-clockwise??? why is it running clockwise now?
@805ROADKING8 жыл бұрын
+AimlessMoto It's a 2 stroke, you can run them in either direction depending on how you time it!!☺
@AimlessMoto8 жыл бұрын
OH! Awesome!!! That makes total sense. Thanks for clearing it up Roadking!
@AnagramForCraig8 жыл бұрын

Is this a 2 stroke?
@scotttipps81558 жыл бұрын
I watched the previous video of him and Mike trying to start it. Were they spinning the engine thebwrwomg way in the first video?
@805ROADKING8 жыл бұрын
+Scott Tipps There is no wrong direction, a two stroke is designed to run both ways!! You just have to adjust the timing appropriately!!☺
@scotttipps81558 жыл бұрын
Excellent, thanks for the info I wasn't aware of that
@budblanke58108 жыл бұрын
My dad told me stories about an old Gray Marine engine in a lifeboat he had around the early 1920's, told me you could slow it down real slow and restart it backwards, eliminating the need for a transmission, would this run backwards too?
@805ROADKING8 жыл бұрын
+Bud Blanke Yeah you can do that with any 2 stroke by just adjusting the timing!! Most of the modern gas powered golf carts run like that now!!☺
