"ASSIMILATION"
There are readings of Borg in a far away system and indicators of species 8472.
We respond to investigate the renewed interest in fluid space by the Borg and soon learn an unsettling truth.
They are on the cusp of learning how to assimilate the Undine.
Letting them accomplish this will be a disaster for Starfleet and any who oppose the Collective. So we set a course to find out what we can and try to curtail their efforts.
But we are too late.
Star Trek Online is full of stories and call-backs to the TV series of days gone and to come. Set in the Star Trek universe's 25th century it places you in the center of these events in an ever expanding series of tales.
Join me as I fulfill the role of a Starfleet captain and Temporal Agent, Mark Hale from the 23rd century now facing fresh challenges against the Borg Advance aboard the USS Armiger.

Its funny because ferengi are so weak and Klingons are so tough. Its totally believable for them to take over the enterprise because they have. Except the one Kirk commanded, but that's just because the ferengi knew Kirk would either karate chop them to death or fuck them. While Spock watched from the rodeo clown barrel in the corner of the room.

While you can't insert it yet, this would be an effective place to insert 'The 2400' Dominion-focused Featured Episode Arc once you get access to it, given that the opening of that has the joint conference between the various powers to form the Omega Force to deal with the problem. As the next one is clearly set after the powers have all reconciled in an armistance, if that sequence of events is to be inserted after the overall Mirror Universe/Nu-Dominion Arc, this seems to be the best place to put it. And somewhere near the beginning of all this mess, or perhaps right now as well, needs to be the Deferri Arc, including the ground battlezone which features the Alpha Quadrant powers holding off the Borg on Deferra as they go after the secret of that arc.

In TNG, the Borg showed that they could analyze and adapt just fine without needing to assimilate something first. The "unable to innovate or adapt without assimilation" weakness seems like something the Voyager writers threw in to handwave why 8472 wasn't facing their own Wolf 359. This mission seems like it's going on the TNG version, where they actually can do things on their own rather than relying exclusively on assimilation. The only real limitation they have is that they're less creative about it and would be less likely to think outside the box.

Needs multiple lines of defense as well as mines and turrets, and at least 2 or 3 engineers to plant said mines and turrets, as well as long-range mortars. Plant your away team several meters away from your last line of defense so they can use long-range attacks once the Borg'd 8472 breaches that last line. Aggro Borg'd 8472, drag him along to your first line of defense where he'll pop the mines and the turrets will draw aggro, meanwhile hit him with long-range attacks and debuffs until he finishes destroying your summons. Aggro again and drag to second line of defense, have the turrets draw aggro and keep hitting him with debuffs, rinse, lather and repeat, and try not to have your pets engage at close range, since pet AI is laughably broken. Properly geared up will the proper skill slots in all your pets (one of which should be that Borg Modulator thingy), along with the right selection of pets (engineers and offense-based sci officers are my preference, YMMV), last boss should be a piece of cake. Pay attention to pet traits, so that you pair up the proper expose/exploit weapon with the optimal bridge officer, and it should be fairly effective. Make sure to have a couple of rally points in mind just in case the Boss is still at reasonable strength after piercing your last mini-bunker. Good luck.

Anyone else find the idea of bioships being superior absolutely laughable? Living ships would be far easier to damage and cripple than a technological ship. Additionally, any carapace that could be grown to stabilize the internals and protect the exterior would be nothing in comparison to a Metamaterial Hull that is segmented. Organic lifeform also consume more energy that they output, while something made from non-living matter doesn't take any energy to fuel(which is why you don't have to recharge your walls). It also wouldn't handle stress and acceleration very well without some serious compromises.

+TymersRealm Tin is a terrible building material. I'd prefer some sort of carbon nanofiber instead. I think the thing with most writers saying "BUT ITS ORGANIC TECHNOLOGY" is that it's inherently a flawed argument towards how "superior" something is. This might be my transhumansit/futurist/whatever showing, but the funny thing about "organic technology" is that we've been using that for thousands of years, and we replace it with "artificial" technology. There's a reason why we use cars, tractors, etc. instead of horses for most things now. It think it's a combination of wanting something to seem alien, the "appeal to nature" fallacy, and our own inherent favoritism towards the biological, even though all a human is is a biological machine. Seems a bit reductionist, but it's true. Besides, the most advanced civilizations are likely to be post-biological and existing in digital substrates. I've been watching too much Science and Futurism With Isaac Arthur.
@SynCelestial
@SynCelestial 5 жыл бұрын
You're describing it like it's a giant space whale, which is understandable since that's how organic life actually is, but I've been under the impression with it being scifi and all that an organic ship from an alien species could be any unknown magnitude in regards to efficiency and tolerance. For example, the writers may happen to say that the organic ship's exterior is far stronger than any material we have, and we can't exactly disprove it since it's an alien (and fiction) species. I always assumed that however it works would work a lot better than what we can imagine from comparing it to real organic life, writer's prerogative if nothing else.
@VestedUTuber
@VestedUTuber 5 жыл бұрын
@@BoisegangGaming Undine bioships could be very much like the Wraith's ships from Stargate. Instead of the ship being a conventional living organism, it could instead be constructed from organic components that aren't quite alive but aren't exactly inanimate either. These systems would function much like the components of conventional ships. A design like this could incorporate both organic and inorganic materials, minimizing the inherent weaknesses of the organic components and enhancing the vessel with capabilities not possible on a conventional craft, such as hull regeneration/reconfiguration (the ship can essentially heal itself and create blast doors and other defensive structures out of its own mass) and decentralized life support integrated within the ship's structure (integrated cyanobacteria colonies exposed to bioluminescent light within the walls of the vessel and fed waste products from other organic systems would be able to convert carbon dioxide to oxygen pretty much everywhere within the ship, removing the need for specialized active life support systems). I do agree that a purely organic vessel would be inferior to a conventional or hybrid organic vessel, however. On a separate note, biological =/= natural. Bioships would definitely have to be engineered, and the "don't touch nature" crowd would be opposed to that just as much as they would be opposed to inorganic technological enhancements. Seriously, have you seen how much people freak out about GMOs and _not_ because of the issues with patent abuse?

The series did show that the immune system protecting them from assimilation could be defeated, and that the Borg just didn't know how at the time. It makes sense that the Borg would find a way to overcome the immune system eventually, considering the ability to analyze and adapt is kinda their thing (in TNG, at least). Be thankful 8472 are actually still something of a threat in the game, unlike the Borg who went back to being a farce after this mission.

Not sure about how I feel about this story arc. The Borg only learn from assimilation, if they can't assimilate no learning. Yet here you're seeing them doing research and experiments, very un-borg like. The only rationalization I have is that from assimilating so many alpha quadrant species they've adapted to do research as well? If so that makes the Borg even scarier! Imagine the research potential of linking trillions of drone minds together? Gives me the willies!
@davidgipe997

That isn't entirely accurate even including Voyager Era. In TNG the Borg were stated as figuring things out and shown to an extent to do so. In Voyager even though Balana states as you do, the Queen in Dark Frontier as i recall mentions abd shows that the Borg are attempting to form an assimilation virus for the humans/ Federation due to their extreme resistance. The thing is...Voyager gave 8472 the blueprints to the nanoprobe warheads, which only worked because the nanoprobes mimicked 8472's immune system. With 8472 having this information, I think it's far more likely that 8472 would biologically adapt to the Borg such that assimilation wouldn't occur. If the cost was high enough, the Borg might decide that 8472 was more trouble than it's worth and leave them alone. Plus, Voyager established at least the beginnings of peaceful relations with 8472. I'd think 8472 would be able to tell that other starfleet ships are closely related to Voyager, and then make the connection.

@defies4626 5 жыл бұрын
It's a variation of the Patrol Escort, an STO original family of designs. It has the saucer of a Deverish class, at least the nacelles of a Gryphon, and the engineering spar of a Hermes. I'd have to do some more looking to identify the pylons and the central weapons pod. Basically, they're an engineering-focused escort, stripping away unnecessary components and paring it back to what is necessary to patrol around, guarding the space lanes and support other escorts and heavier elements in larger battles. The C-store version, the Tempest Patrol Escort, is basically the prototype for the Tier 6 of ships, prototyping many of the features typical of T6 ships, such as a pseudo-experimental weapon (the Tempest Tail Gun, a rear-facing 90 degree arc dual phaser cannon with a permanent rapid fire applied to it), and has the common feature of a second Lt. Cmd. seat. Alas, it unfortunately doesn't have a T6 version yet (but given that the fleet version is effectively a T6 ship, the allowance of a fleet ship module once per each fully completed reputation now that lets you buy it for relatively cheap so who cares), but it's still extremely good.

Certifiably Ingame no I thought I saw a video in my feed about the Orville, it was about the battle of earth with the Kaylons. It might have been someone else, so thought it was yours but now can’t find it.

I don't like this borg they doing. First they get a queen cuz fuck you, then they get trough plot armor whit this, not to mention dreems, rebelling collectives. Would it be too much to ask not to humanize every fucking villian in sci-fi? Let them stay evil and not retcon the crap out of them, like they did whit joker, who aparently justified and now batman is the bad guy lol?
