I show you several examples of layering etched dichroic glass. I was having so much fun with this one I kept adding more. At the end I add in a bonus project you can do with etched dichro. I hope this encourages you to try new things with your dichro.
I get my dichroic glass from DichroicInc.com. I use a lot of "Etched" & "Ripple" glass in this video (clear & black backed). I can't list them all so I'd suggest searching through their vast selection. Warning-They sell out fast.
Highlights-
1.Glass wants to be 6mm. If you stack more than 6mm it will grow during fusing. If you stack less than 6mm it will shrink.
2.Stacking etched dichro give the piece depth.
3.When stacking dichroic glass avoid putting dichro to dichro because it doesn't want to stick together. But if there is enough clear glass on the dichro like on some of the etched dichro it's possible to put dichro to dichro..
4.You can make stacks that are black backed (or any color you want) or clear backed.
5.For lightweight jewelry just cut a shape from the etched dichro and fire polish.
Fire Polish-AFAP to 1350˚F (730˚C) hold for 10 min.
AFAP=As Fast As Possible

These are so amazing. Are you using microwave ? If so for how long ? And just one more, firepolish. This really gives a pro finish, have watched many videos and final sentence is “ now we’ll fire polish and ….. but don’t speak to how that is accomplished. I am truly grateful to you and other UTube instructors for sharing your hard earned knowledge only acquired by putting in the time to learn, your experience is invaluable, the time to produce a very, very good instructive video so very appreciated !!!

Thank you! I’m using a kiln. Not a microwave. I usually give the details of the fire polish so I must have assumed everyone knew what I meant in this video. And I should never assume. So, a fire polish is when you bring the glass to a temperature that the glass just starts to move. The edges of the glass look wet. For my kilns & small pieces that usually means 9999 to 1350 & hold for 10 min. This is a quick way to polish the edges. Some glass artists will use polishing equipment to polish the edges by hand.

On the 7mm stacked pendant the layer of clear glass did not look like a exact smooth piece, does it matter or does it give it any texture? Or did the clear piece also had dichro?

What temp do you fire the dichro to? I have problems with it burning off. I've been going to 1250' Do you post your schedules?
@SusanMcGarryGlass
@SusanMcGarryGlass 10 ай бұрын
I usually fire to 1450F. If you’re having burn off you may not be using glass that is meant for fusing. Buy from a reputable source!

How do you avoid devit? Thanks a bunch 👍🐢
@SusanMcGarryGlass
@SusanMcGarryGlass 10 ай бұрын
Usually devit happens when you go too slow between when the glass starts to get soft (about 1200F) and when it fuses. But for small pieces I usually go 9999 to my fusing temp.
