Daily Sporran no.88: My cover version of the song that has come to be known as “Wond’ring Aloud, Again”, originally recorded by Jethro Tull at London’s Morgan Studios in June 1970. The song was later that year split into two parts: “Wond’ring Aloud”, re-recorded for the “Aqualung” album, and “Wond’ring Again” which was put on the 1972 compilation album “Living In The Past”. Written by Ian Anderson.
Song starts at 2:12.

Very well done, sir. I've been listening to Ian's music since the National Jazz and Blues Festival at Sunbury in 1968. When disaster strikes or gray clouds cover the sun I turn to Jethro Tull to get me through. I've been stumbling through his riffs and chord changes for a half century. Thanks for the inspiration!

@@DailySporran Sadly, I was not at the festival but I was given a reel to reel tape of parts of it by a friend who was working for a music producer. I had it converted to a 4 track (!) and wore it out in my car listening to it. I was very fortunate to meet Ian at a very small house concert in San Francisco that he and the band did as a fundraiser for wild cats a few years ago, on their day off from performing in concert. Ian wandered through the crowd talking to people, shaking hands, talking about his music and being so incredibly humble. There were only 100 tickets sold. It was an unforgettable evening.

This one is how I discovered your Daily Sporran series; it's not a coincidence, because you're performing my favorite tune by this composer. I don't play, but I can hum along snippets of a bass harmony with this one to fill it out. Thanks for choosing the good ones for your playing, and for your song. I like to think this one will be played for decades and scores of years more, at least until the charabanc ride drops me off at my final destination.

There are lot of things I want to say. Firstly one needs a lot of courage to attempt a Tull song. Secondly, this is very special to me as it is one of my many favourite songs from one of the greatest bands. Thirdly, your voice suits Ian’s so much and you captured all the finer nuances in the song. Wonderful ! Maybe you can try a Moody Blues or Al Stewart or Jim Croce or Gordon Lightfoot song. They too are my favourites.

It was wonderful waking up here in Australia to such inspiring and entertaining performances. I, too, was introduced to Tull at around 15 years of age. (By my Brother in law to be). It also took me 3 listens. My initiation was with Living in the Past. They’ve been with me ever since. Bravo to the brilliant Ian Anderson, and bravo to the brilliant Stewart Wood. Have enjoyed this series so much and it made me revisit some of my old vinyl as well as songs I haven’t listened to for more than 30 years. For me the highlight of the repertoire is and always will be the Passion Play, but I loved every one of your interpretations, including some of the songs that I had never heard before. You also managed to underline what a musical genius Ian Anderson is. Just epic!
@hamilton9651
@hamilton9651 Жыл бұрын
Tull was initially planning to release a double album. They went to France to record it, but somehow things turned out badly and Anderson scrapped the entire album. He went back and rewrote what became a Passion Play. But they finally released the songs that had been slated for the double album years later. Had they released those songs instead of A Passion Play Tull would have been catapulted into major stardom. Instead A Passion Play bombed commercially and they went downhill after that. And I also learned that Anderson had considered making a movie to accompany the album but scrapped that too. I think that was the reason they had a theater booklet inside of A Passion Play. While Warchild, Minstrel, and Stormwatch had a few good songs overall they never achieved what they had put out in the rejected double album! Now sadly Anderson's voice is totally shot and the 75 year old has virtually no energy or stage presence left! .
