Not really necessary when there’s two major companies making wireless GameCube controllers including one pseudo First Party controller via Nintendo’s Official Distribution… …yet wireless n64 prices are DISGUSTING. Both the 8BitDo RB Wireless N64 Controller and the Nintendo Switch Online 64 Controller sell for over $200 and cannot be purchased from the manufacturer (unless you’re a scalper apparently who finds a way to buy all the stock within the first half hour til it’s sold out) so this is ABSOLUTELY NEEDED…

@@davejay6855 except it is necessary because most options available right now are garbage and also don't even have analog triggers. The only good one is Exlene and even that one doesn't have analog. Also the N64 has more wireless options (new Retro Bit, Retro Fighters, OEM AND Hyperkin) than GameCube that are all reasonably priced but we still got a wireless kit for it

@@kevin_lee_music give me the same amount of AVAILABLE OPTIONS to get a PROPER Nintendo 64 Controller (putting n64 buttons on an Xbox Style Controller does not count) and then I’ll care about details like analog triggers for GameCube controllers. Until then, analog or not, they still exist in the same shape and form as the original (not to mention several of the GameCube rereleases DON’T SUPPORT ANALOG over wireless Switch protocol, ie, try putting an 8BitDo version of the controller which DOES have Analog output and Super Mario Allstar’s Super Mario Sunshine won’t even read it. So you have a choice of a wired controller with analog or a wireless one without analog, because over that protocol there will NEVER be a wireless GameCube Controller with analog triggers, because why bother making one when wireless controllers WITH analog triggers don’t even work on current releases of the game. And any other platform can just take a WaveBird signal anyways with the dongle USB converter. So go do one of those and move on

I've bought mine and I can't wait! I find it strange that the product page only mentions Switch and Android for compatibility. I've sent an e-mail asking if it can be used on real hardware with a Blueretro Bluetooth receiver and the answer was no. However, a person in an online group has already received the kit and confirmed it does work. I'm really glad it does. Thank you for this amazing product, 8bitdo!

@@941asland RetroTime's N64 BlueRetro adapter. They are sold at 8bitmods.

I think 8bitdo only ever intended for this to work with switch and android, and that's what they've personally tested compatibility on. It just happens to work with n64 blue retro receivers by virtue of being a bluetooth controller. 8bitdo hasn't tested it themselves nor was the mod ever intended to be used on original hardware. That's probably why they aren't openly advertising it as such.

Can confirm this worked with the Retro Time BlueRetro adapter on my 64 in switch mode. Direct input wouldn’t register Z or R for me.

I can’t get Z to register with the BlueRetro adapter, and B = Down-C for me. It’s doing my nut. I hate the web interface. I cannot find anywhere online that points to setting this up or anyone else having the same issue. Two 8bitdo modded N64 controllers behaving the same 🤷

Watch and watch closely at the position of the L and R cables and how they are bent and shaped. They must be positioned as such like the video for the rear side of the controller to close properly without crushing the cables. Otherwise, I have no problems on my end.

This is awesome, can't wait to test it but before just a quick feedback; YOU HAVE TO ADD THE LITTLE RUBBER GLOWING COVER WHERE IT WAS THE CABLE BEFORE PUTTING THE CARD. Or you'll have to do it all over again.

This is a great news, but I think you’re not seeing the potential of this Market. Many players have Nintendo Switch and want to play Nintendo 64 games available in online service; official N64 controllers from Nintendo are always sold out. Also, many players like the Gamecube controller design and some companies are producing controllers link NYXI Wizard. However, none of these have the 8BitDo quality and durability. Therefore, as a customer and looking to the potential, I suggest the development of these products: a N64-like controller and a GameCube-like controller. I’m sure they would hit the Market very well and sells would be astonish! 😊 That’s it. I hope this message reaches the development team and these products come to live soon! Best Regards!

I was interested in this for the joystick alone, but it's becoming abundantly clear that it's still not what we're looking for. please find a way to calibrate it so the sensitivity curve and range matches an OEM stick.

This is cool, but on the other hand I may as well just use my NSO N64 controller - especially because I still want my N64 controllers to work on the actual console. If on the other hand you could keep this compatible with the N64, either with a USB to N64 wire or a Bluetooth dongle for the console itself, that'd be worth doing, but having to choose between N64 compatibility and Switch compatibility is a bit of a bummer.

Definitely gonna pick some.of these up. Feels weird calling it a mod kit though since it's literally 90% of the controller. But also marketing it as anything else would probably confuse some people... Can't wait for a GameCube setup for something similar!

I hope they do a Dreamcast Controller or at least a kit. RetroBit’s Dreamcast Controllers are the ugliest pieces of sht I’ve ever seen and likely won’t ever see one in person since they’ll likely never be released or even shown again. Sigh DreamConn wireless controllers look great but absolutely suck with performance and Bluetooth connection. I barely use mine.

But..can we all be honest that the Dreamcast controllers in general are just kind of ugly. I feel the same way about the N64 controllers. There's a reason design has pretty much defaulted to the playstation or Xbox layout for almost everything these days. We know what works and feels good. @@davejay6855

Is the joystick compatible with the OEM controller board? The mod kit itself doesn't make sense, if you still want to use the controller on the original n64 hardware, as there doesn't appear to be a wireless receiver to continue using the controller on the n64 hardware via bluetooth. But the joystick would be a great upgrade for the controller if you intend on doing so.

Seeing as you are the company that previously brought us many other fully compatible controllers, I assume this is the case but I do have an inquiry: Will this be able to compatible with the remapping menu for the button outputs on the Switch? Every other way of using a N64 controller is not which has aggravated me to no end because I want to be able to use this particular controller with any game.

I hope they add more colors, but I doubt they will. All good, though. Hopefully soon they'll also release a Gamecube controller mod kit. I know there are modern versions, but without analog triggers, they're terrible for emulation. The most interesting Gamecube controller option out there is Nyxi's Joycon Gamecube controller, and they just overwhelm you with the amount of buttons that bulky thing has.

Will you ever have support for your full n64 controller that you made years back, that your site pretends doesn’t exist now? I picked on up but have never been able to use it because it either won’t connect to anything or there’s no way to configure the buttons which are never correct for some reason.

I am really struggling with this mod. The case just won’t go back together properly. I bought two of the kits and for both of them I can’t get the R button in the right position for it to close it seems. Really not sure what to do :(

I wish the modnkits would come with cables to connect them to their original consoles so that people who want to use their controllers on original hardware and the Switch wont have to dissasemble their controllers constantly.

Buy a blue retro adapter for your n64. That way you can connect to your original consoles via bluetooth. No need to constantly disassemble your controller. You also have the benefit of being able to connect other bluetooth controllers as well.

You can keep original, the new hall effect stick is an option when buying the kit. The old one plugs into the same port on the board.

Or you know just DON’T MAKE THIS and produce a new RB8-64 Controller or A REPLACEMENT FOR IT like people have been asking for since it came out. And please FIX THE SNES CONTROLLERS. They were PERFECT and then some moron decided to make them LOOK NOTHING LIKE SNES CONTROLLERS. How to lose customers in one simple step? Take a well made, well designed, and well selling controller and change it to be uglier. Thanks.
