that was a super nice chat Lao. We've had kinda similar fountain pen journeys and reached pretty much the same conclusions too lol. 😃 I think that I will do a VR to the ladies and answer the 8 questions at some point too. Thank you so much for sharing, and yes that Leonardo is fabulous. I'll check out your Pineider vid too, as I have seen these on Cult Pens. My Grail pen is the Homo Sapiens Tuscan Hills.... 😍

YAY!! Yes, check out my pineider video, the pen is just simply gorgeous. If you get bored of me spinning the pen around...I apologize xD I just couldn't stop myself from looking at its beauty. But I love that your Grail pen is also in the Visconti line-ups! They are just magnificent pens! I do like their other more crazy designs based off the HS line, but SOOO Expensive. I will watch your video when you obtain your grail pen someday!

Aurora!! That's the more expensive Italian Brand that I should not delve into....for my wallet's sake haha. For every 10 leonardos I want/like, there's only 1 aurora pen I like, so that's good. I really want the Aurora Optima Viola...that one is a true beauty. Thank you for watching and listening to me share xD I have a few Leonardos coming in and will be doing video unboxing and first look at them! ^_^ Super excited!

Love these questions as a relative newcomer to fountain pens. I have 16, all pretty low end of the price range…… I always think those Leonardo type pens look too chunky for my small hands, though they are beautiful. I don’t have a grail pen yet as I don’t know enough about them but I am looking at Sailor Pro Gear slims… 😀🤪🤓
@KenchanKrafts

Yes! They are the perfect middle sized pocket pens. Probably about the same length as the kawecos and the pilot e95s, which are all great pocket pens. I also have relatively small hands...I judge that if I can't comfortably reach an octave on the piano, I have small hands haha. But the larger Leonardo pen doesn't really make it uncomfortable for me, thankfully, because I would be so sad! But indeed they are pretty.

Love Pelikan Apatite. When I'm considering a pen I always try to wait a little while and then I search for youtube videos about the pen to see if 1 its good to write with out of the box and 2 if its scratchy 3 if its affordable 4 if one of the presenters has a discount code and last if it comes with the emenities cartridge converter, ink, warentee, things like that. I hope this helps
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do that, too! Typically, I will buy the pen if it has a discount on it from the store/site itself, if not, then look for a discount code from the youtuber. If neither of those, then I will wait, but I may have prematurely bought the pen-venture leonardo, but it looked great in Emy's video, so let's hope it is gorgeous in person when I get it. The Jonathon Brooks' chatoyance on the red magico (that I returned) was not as impressive as Tailored Pen Co's Maldives' design on my current Leonardo, so I only fear that it won't be as nice as the one I have. We shall see and I will be one of the first few to share it. I'll review/share the Blue Aloha too once Endless finally gets them!! Goodness it's been over almost two months since I ordered it.

@@KenchanKrafts You've seen my Leonardo Memento Magico Omg the broad nib is the smoothest nib I have and its so beautiful I could stare at it all day .. but the reason I actually bought it was cause it resembled another pen that I wanted so badly but couldn't afford the Pelikan Ocean Swirl OMG I wanted that pen so bad but now their going for like thousands of dollars so :( Nope

I am new to your channel and I enjoyed your video. I have wanted the Sailor Spring Rain since it first came out. But I don't like the Pro Gear Slim (prefer the full-sized Pro Gear) and the MF nib is way too fine for me, so I tell myself I'd just be buying pretty plastic. The fact that Sailor released many cool pens with an MF nib only has saved me countless dollars.

The Homo Sapiens is an awesome feeling pen. It still blows my mind that the pen is made from lava. Bear in mind that Visconti gold nibs generally write wetter and therefore a bit broader. Now onto Visconti QC. Visconti was using palladium nibs on their higher end pens. When the nibs were working, they were absolutely fantastic. They were soft, juicy and just a dream to write with, hence the name 'Dreamtouch". More often than not though, the nibs were a disaster for Visconti, so a couple of years back they switched back to 18k gold nibs, at a horrible cost to their reputation. If you're looking to get a brand new HS, I doubt you'll have any nib issues, but if you want you can try for a second hand HS with a Pd nib, but ensure that it works inked up, not just dipped, and you could get a great pen without breaking the bank. The SF pen show might be a good place to look for one.
@KenchanKrafts

Yes, it was the dreamtouch palladium nib that was the bane of their reputation. I do applaud them for trying something new and that when it worked, it was a dream. I can only hope to write with such a dream palladium nib someday and I will be happy with their current 18k gold nib :) I am looking at F or EF, but I feel that the F should be fine for me as I have seen that the HS is a very wet writer. I bought the Lamy 2000, and it was not as wet as everyone made it out to be. I also expect that the 2000 is pretty consistent throughout, so that's pretty OK with me that mine isn't so wet, but that was a pen I bought out of fomo/great reviews, rather than my own love for it. I will not be doing that anymore xD
@ironmic9244
@ironmic9244 Жыл бұрын
@@KenchanKrafts Well the good thing about the HS is you can get replacement nibs, but man are they expensive. I vowed never to buy a Lamy let alone a 2000, but I kept hearing how good it was was, and then I saw a video by @doodlebud calling it the best engineered pen. By this time I saw the steel version, and I liked it. I don't like the makralon version. Too ubiquitous, and over time it develops shiny spots. I got in in an OM, it's not that wet, but I love it. Plus I can get replacement nibs. Lamy is one of few with BB, OM, OB stock nibs. I can't wait to get the OBB later on. I have my share of M, B, F nibs. I want the character to my writing.

@@ironmic9244 I may sell my 2000 in the future if it doesn't suit my fancy overall, since it is a bit too plain looking xD though I know that's not a major problem for a lot of folks who just love how well it writes. I also caved in to the "how well it writes" fad about it, so I will give it some more time to get a better feel for it. I also liked the fact that I can get replacement nibs for different nib sizes since I feel that our preferences for nib sizes changes from time to time, so Lamy makes that pretty nice and quick to make those changes.
@ironmic9244
@ironmic9244 Жыл бұрын
@@KenchanKrafts The makralon is definitely plain. That's why I got the steel version. It's heavier too. I really like mine. I find it has a profile of a great white shark, so I call mine, "Jaws" I only have 3 named pens LOL.

That simply is not true about the Visconti Homo Sapiens nibs. Visconti did have a problem with nibs for a time, but even then bad nibs were very, very rare. I know because I've seen the actual numbers. And never, ever, not once has anyone had to have a Visconti nib tuned. If there's something wrong with a Visconti nib the company will bend over backward to make it right. On top of this, just about any company the sells expensive pens will test a nib before shipping the pen. KZfaq, and people who simply spread tales, make one bad nib on one pen sound like ten thousand pens had ten thousand bad nibs. KZfaq is horrible about this. I've seen estimates based on sales numbers, locations, and from research in other ways that up to ninety percent of people who say they got a Homo Sapiens with a bad nib have never even owned one. I'm a Visconti lover and collector, and over many years I've known dozens of other collectors who have every Visconti pen made, including all the Homo Sapiens pens. I also have talked to at least eighty people I know own a Homo Sapiens. Total number of Homo Sapiens pens about four hundred and fifty. Total number of bad nibs? Seven. Just seven. There are cerrtainly many more than four bad Homo Sapiens nibs out there, but the percentage is EXTRENELY low. But people love to talk, even when they don't know what they're talking about. Brown nosing is a human frailty, and when someone says they got a pen with a bad nib, many will say the same thing in the comments, even if, in fact, they have never even seen one of the pens in person. Really, think about it. A company would be out of business overnight if large number of customers received bad nibs, and had to pay someone to fix them. It does not happen. Companies fix or replace bad products, and Visconti guarantees this. Period. End of story. This said, EVERY brand of production pen is going to let a pen slip through with a bad nib every once in a while. It's foolish to think otherwise. The alternative is to triple the price of the pens so every pen can be inspected and tested by a real person. If you want to get anywhere near perfection, you have to buy very expensive custom pen, not production pens. I've never even heard of a Namiki-Maki-e that had a problem, but even here I'd bet one exists somewhere. I have a Namiki Maki-e with a street price of $12,000. It cost this much for two reasons. Reason one is because it is hand painted, and the artist had to work for nearly two decades before being trusted to paint a pen. Such artists do not come cheap. Reason two is because of aspect of these pens is inspected by a human, and everything possible, including the nib, is tested by a person. All this said, yes, you can get a bad Homo Sapiens nib, or a bad Conway Stewart nib, or a bad Pilot nib, on and on. If you do, the retailor will almost certainly handle the problem, though you should have asked the retailer to test the pen before shipping it. If the retailer can't fix the problem, the parent company will. All that said, however, if you have the money, it is often worth have the nib on an expensive pen tuned and ground just for you, even if everything about the nib works well. A lifetime pen should have the exact flow you like, the nib should have just the softness and line width you like, and the nib should not only be as smooth as you like, but should also have the grind you prefer. It really doesn't cost very much to have this done, and if you're going to invest in a Grail pen, why not take the extra step and make it a pen you'll love until the day you die?
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts Жыл бұрын
Hi James, thank you for your comments and input on the Homosapiens and Visconti! I believe what you say and that the percentages are low. A lot of folks only see or speak of the moments where something didn't turn out right, even though, the amount of times we see that being posted on social media are slim to none in comparison to the folks who do love their pens (Visconti or others) and do not post that on social media -- which would skew the perception that half of the people that post got the bad nibs, the other half got good nibs. The chances of getting a bad nib is definitely much rarer in any brand and company than they are made out to be and yes, getting bad nibs is bound to happen in any company and it is to be expected, though just not something anyone would want to go through. I've experienced it myself with the few kawecos that I have -- there are a number of negative reviews of every brand from every walks of life, but in my personal experience with Kawecos, they've been great, and I can only attest to my own experience. I know I only mentioned the fears of getting a bad nib, but I think the only real bad thing about getting a poor nib out of the box is the hassle of having to ship and wait and possibly still not get the nib to your liking, which is time consuming on everyone's part, but can also be frustrating. I have no ill-desire or thoughts towards Visconti, in fact, I love the designs and hard workmanship they put into their pens, and I don't think I'd mind working with them to get my pen fixed, should it have any defects out of the box. I also agree with the nib grinding, if I feel off about how the normal EF, F, M writes for me and want a more specific nib grind that really makes me happy, it's just another 50-100, which is a worthy investment on a holy grail pen, and to have even more history behind the pen to where I can say this is a truly unique grail pen as it was made by an amazing company tuned and grounded by an exceptional nibmeister. So I know for sure, my Visconti Homo Sapiens holy grail journey will go through all those channels to be the most hard-earned pen I hope to experience and have in my collection someday! But my only one rule for myself and to follow through with, is to feel it first in hand and write with it, before going through all the channels to make it my own and truly mine. :) I really appreciate your thoughts on this matter and expressing the realities of these things. This helps me to be more mindful of what I would like to express in my videos in the future. And thank you for watching and listening to my rambling! What is your favorite Homo Sapien pen line in your collection? I'd love to know more about your experiences with them!
@ironmic9244
@ironmic9244 Жыл бұрын
The nib is not just to the Homo Sapiens. I might not have as many Viscontis as you. I have 5. A Rembrandt, old style Van Gogh, Opera Master, Homo Sapiens, and Asia Bamboo. None of them have given me a problem. They write beautifully. So because I have never experienced a problem I should just call other people names because they may have them. Yes, take a grain of salt with everyone says on any social media platform, but when a lot of people are saying it, they are all lying? When people who I know are not on KZfaq says they have had issues with the Pd nib, they are lying too? There are plenty of people who have great experiences are very quick to defend their experience when a reviewer or a person post a negative view of a product on social media. I haven't seen that defense when it came to the Pd nib. You have the numbers. Make a video about it. I'd love to see it. It won't change my mind of what MANY people have said, but I'd still find it interesting, and I wouldn't DEVALUE your opinion. Something you are very quick to do if someone, anyone says something you disagree with. Show me these numbers, because I'm a numbers guy. I'd love to see if Visconti could absorb the hit. There have been plenty of companies that have taken a hit from a bad product, made changes and it didn't ruin them overnight. Period. End of story. By the way, the price of palladium has become significantly cheaper over the last one year. Cheaper than gold now. So will Visconti be changing back to the Pd nib?
