I'm about to buy my first Leonardo pen. What's your experience with it? 😊
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts Күн бұрын
Hi Marie! You came to the right person! 🥰I love all my Leonardo pens. Even the ones I have sold. I sold them because the resin pattern wasn't the optimal resin pattern that brought me joy. It had nothing to do with the quality of the writing. All the Leonardos that have come into my collection are a joy to write with. But you might find that some Leonardo Gold nibs are too wet, even a Fine and EF. If you enjoy a wet combination, then that shouldn't be an issue. The quality of the acrylic of the Momento Zero and Grande models are superb. They feel extra luxurious and expensive (so can be a bit heavy, they're about 23-25g unposted). The one major drawback that I've experienced is that the caps can be a bit loose since I don't like to cap my pens very tightly. Leonardos take just 1 rotation to cap and if you like to lightly cap them, they tend to easily uncap themselves, so you may want to just add a bit more tightening on the caps once you put them away. Are you getting the Atlas Golden Abalone or the Magico from Goldspot? :D I'd love to know which one you're going for.

@@iheartmarie If you're talking about the regular line of Leonardos, since those are more readily available at any time, I'd say the Momento Zero Blue Aloha is a beautiful one that just makes me super happy. If you don't mind cracked ice designs, this is one of the best. I don't think I've seen it done in another pen brand yet. If you watch my Blue Aloha video, you'll see it better close-up :) If you don't like cracked ice designs, Leonardo does beautiful spaghetti resins, the Leonardo "Sand" is also super beautiful. I would recommend those two if you enjoy those two colors. Leonardos nibs are pretty consistent with western sizing.

@@willyum3557 the difference is indeed very subtle. And that’s why a lot of people mistake Sailors feedback to be scratchy for them, that’s why I made this video. But if you can hear just the slightest difference that it is more in the second one, then you’re on the right track. It’s also a textile feel in your hand, so that part is hard to show here.

Thank you for this great video. It was very thoughtful and informative. I think we also have to think of profit not as greed or just money for the seller but also as the funds that keep the business operating in order to continue having products for us to purchase.

@@NikitaBx2 thank you so much for watching, Nikita 🥰 Indeed, profit is still a very real thing for business owners to think about and I really appreciate the business owners who are able to make choices to help ease the cost for buyers. And I also understand when retailers might not be able to do that, too, for their particular goals in addition to ensuring their business continues to serve us!

The pens are yours, but it hurts hearing them smack against each other. And the scrap on the table... yikes. It won't cause immediate damage, but don't complain if after a couple of years they look 'scratched and scuffed'. Treat them with care is my advise.
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 9 күн бұрын
Hey man, I'm sure we all take care of our pens differently - and honestly, I don't think anything was really that cringey or yikes-worthy when I rewatched it. Pen cases don't always keep your pens from knocking up against each other 100%. While I do care about that aspect when finding cases to protect my pen, I also don't want to submit to having to baby my pens like they are going to break from the slightest hit against each other or on my desk, as you saw in the first 3 minutes of my video. I do take really good care of my pens, I do not throw them or drop them from a foot above - if this is the only video you watched, you wouldn't get the whole picture of who I am or how I take care of my Leonardos/pens. And no, I will not complain about them in a couple of years - they're meant to be used! If anything, I would appreciate the scuff from use. They will inevitably show signs of use with time, however, I love the build quality of Leonardo pens. They rarely show much wear and tear on the resin parts, but the metal parts on any pens are bound to show no matter what. Anyways, I would like to know what you liked about the video, too! Thank you so much for watching :)

@@KenchanKrafts Fair enough. I would just be a bit more careful, but you are right, the pens are yours and if you don't mind, its all fine and dandy haha, no hard feelings. The pens are beautiful - nice colors. Its nice that you have a grande next to the original sizes and you show them meticulously. Overal a good video for sure. Just handle the pens a bit better, or at least for the pen afficionado. You can use them however you like of course.

this was helpful!! just curious, is it possible to "fix" a scratchy pen? or do you just have to deal w/ it?
@KenchanKrafts
@KenchanKrafts 16 күн бұрын
I had this pen tuned by JC from The Nib Tailor at the Chicago Pen Show. It still has issues because this nib likes to go to its natural state, where the tines are less tight than the rest of my Sailors. I have to write much lighter to avoid scratching compared to my other Sailor nibs, which can handle the normal pressure I use (and I don't use too much to begin with). You can fix a scratchy nib if the tines are aligned pretty well. I fixed my scratchy Fine Benu nib and it writes so much smoother without the scratchy sound/feel! But I don't feel comfortable doing it with my gold nibs yet. If you buy a Sailor from a retailer WITH a warranty (Sailor does not work with you if you bought from EndlessPens or other non-authorized retailers), and the nib is bad, then you can have the pen replaced at your retailer! If you bought your Sailor straight from Japan, then you have no warranty and have to get it tuned/fixed by a nibmeister or use micromesh yourself to smooth out the nib. This scratchy sailor nib - the tines were crossing slightly over each other. You can find videos by Goulet Pens to realign the nib (you'd use repeated pressure to adjust the nibs back to alignment), and then use micromesh to smooth it out if you feel it is still actually scratching. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need a link to Goulet's videos on realignment of nibs + smoothing/tuning.

I feel you there Teresa! In retrospect, the Hermes doesn’t have too much meaning for me. I feel that I bought that one impulsively from the excitement. But I’ve skipped on a ton of recent Leonardo’s (honestly there’s been like 10 since these three) and it feels great to be able to say no to so many and stick to the Leonardo’s that do have great meaning to me. I may sell this red one as I just pre ordered Klarissa’s dragon heart Leonardo, which is also red.

I loved the atlas color when swatched but found it maybe too light when you were writing with it. Still legible. That Colorverse color though maintained its saturation when you wrote with it so my vote would go to that ink or the mix you made. I don’t love a pure dark green so I appreciated the just enough blue in the Wolf point color. What beautiful pens to enjoy the swatching with

Just a reminder: The Colorverse Wolf Point ink is in Atlas' Last Chance section, which means that you see the full price initially, but you will see the discounted price when you add it to your cart! They probably have a computerized program where all pens in this specific section gets reduced once in the cart - it's easier than having to manually change the prices of each item they decide to go in there. So trust me - the products I mentioned that are on sale should be on sale and I'll update when it's not anymore :)
