How to replace failed diaphragms on the vacuum type warm up regulators
Most of these are failing nowadays, so here is a guide and demonstrations to prove the vacuum chambers are inoperative.

Hi, great video. Had an issue with cold starts on my JH Rocco. Before doing a wur rebuilt, I have cleaned the small filter on the big gas inlet to the wur, it was full of debris. That did the trick...

Your videos are fantastic and have given me the confidence to press on with the dismantling of the WUR. My gasket was shot. I removed the press in filters as they were clogged. Where can I get the right banjo filter? Do you sell them? Thank you

Great Video as always thank you. I have an old 1981 V8 Mercedes. Have adjusted the mixture to solve a misfire just above idle. Must have been a little rich and replace the main fuel filter last night. However< the car hasn't been on the road for a number of years and once warm get very rich and dies. I wait 5 minutes and will start fine, then after a minute or so the same. Starts first time when cold and warm, but after 20 minutes or so when warm to hot, this will happen. Have invested in gauges and the control and system pressures are all good. I will hook them up again tomorrow and hopefully the fault will occur and I will see if these pressure change ? Sorry for long question, but with your experience does this point towards a warm up regulator? Have looked at the site you recommend and was going the buy a kit, as you say these are now 40 years old and are probably in a poor state anyway > Thank you and Happy Easter, Vincent

Hi, that does look like a WUR issue, if you monitor the pressure from cold it should go from around 1 bar to 3.5 bar in around 3 to 4 minutes by the book, so something close to that
@KayleighTenny
@KayleighTenny 4 ай бұрын
Thank you you very much for your super quick reply, I have checked when cold and yes a low-pressure when cold. I will hook up the gauges this morning and see if after the control pressure start to rise when warming up, it then goes down starts to run rough then stalls. It's a shame I haven't a vacuum tester, but hopefully the gauges show a fault. I will let you know how I get on. Thank you very much again@@GreyGooseRestorations

I can fully recommend the company you use for the rebuild kits. Great communication and great service. My diaphragm looks in great shape, but will rebuild now stripped downed and replace the "o" rings on the pressure regulator. Would you recommend me carry out your wur mod, even though it bolts onto the cylinder head
@GreyGooseRestorations
@GreyGooseRestorations 4 ай бұрын
@KayleighTenny its always worth the WUR mod as just a few psi less control pressure really makes a difference

Great, I will do that before the kit arrives. I was lucky, when the WUR came apart, the sprigs and plunger went skyward. I have only just found the plunger! I have messaged you on the filter video, you mention the WUR filter you supply, how can I purchase one?@@GreyGooseRestorations

Im having a really weird hortstart issue which i cannot figure out, and i suspect that the wur is at fault. When its -5 etc outside, the car starts fine. however when it starts getting warmer (12 degrees and onward) the car struggles to start when i use it for the first time that day, idle is rough and it stabilizes after 2 min. when ive driven a bit and try to start the car again it fires up instantly. do you have any suggestions on what it could be?
@GreyGooseRestorations
@GreyGooseRestorations 4 ай бұрын
It could be the WUR pressures to high or it could be the fuel Accumulator not functioning or the metering head pressure relief valve seals failing
@Brintafanaat44
@Brintafanaat44 2 ай бұрын
@@GreyGooseRestorations It turned out to be the fuel Accumulator, thanks for your pointers!

Thanks for your helpful videos. I have a 2.8i Capri, and I need to adjust cold and hot control pressures, after WUR overhaul. Is there are preferred procedure for this? Im thinking, adjust cold pressure first 1.5bar at 20c. Then warm it all up and adjust hot pressure 3.5bar with diaphragm screw? Thanks again.

Yeah thats the way i do it, once warm is adjusted i check cold again as it has an affect on the but never by any great amount

@@GreyGooseRestorations Well, I got it set up, no fix. I have been chasing a loss of power and missing mostly when hot, under acceleration. All I have left is thinking that maybe the fuel filter needs changing again, or fuel lines. Ive done everything else….. except the air filter? Changed injectors, inlet manifold gasket, pump, accumulation, oring in fuel distributor regulator. Rebuilt WUR regulator and adjusted, including control fuel gauze filter. Checked cold start injector function. Lashed the head valves. Any other ideas?

@CrayonboxAviationAdventures what is your CO % at idle?
@CrayonboxAviationAdventures
@CrayonboxAviationAdventures 4 ай бұрын
@@GreyGooseRestorations Sorry, unable to measure. I have been fiddling with the fuel idle mixture :-( but it idles really nicely until it reaches operating temperature, and then engine might even die. The loss of power started after the car had sat 4 years unused, at which time I replaced fuel filter and pump due to pump seized. Pump is recommended Bosch. It’s been like this now about 18 months. Also, when parked, if I apply throttle slowly it revs fine, but if I rev quickly, it dies, misses, and won’t rev out - as if the air flow plate won’t lift with rapid airflow, or being held down by control fuel pressure from WUR.

Thank You for this video, , could You help me with advice : golf mk1 89’, 1.8 JH engine with ke-jetronic. Every now and then the engine starts like on two cylinders with poor idle and backfire and I have to drive through speedbump to make it work corectly. It doesn’t matter if the engine is cold or warm. It only happens when I start the car - never when its running. Would You help me where to look? The car drived like this for years but previous owned didn’t care - he drove it rarely.
@GreyGooseRestorations
@GreyGooseRestorations 4 ай бұрын
Sounds like it may be a loose electrical connection if it needs a speedbump, possibly main fuel pump wiring first then onto metering head stuff

I’ve fitted the kit from Reuben, thanks for tip. Drilled the brass cap to allow those with gauges to adjust. When I blow through the atmospheric port air comes out through the hole at the back. Is that normal or have I fitted the diaphragm kit incorrectly? No air through the side port which is what I had before fitting. Thank you
@GreyGooseRestorations
@GreyGooseRestorations 3 ай бұрын
There shouldn't be air passing from atmospheric port to that back cap. If you suck on the vacuum port does it hold vacuum
@user-rv7rq4nw8n
@user-rv7rq4nw8n 3 ай бұрын
When I suck on that side port I can hear the passing of air through the open brass cap and can breathe in very slight amount of air. When I plug the brass cap with my finger I can’t suck air any more
@user-rv7rq4nw8n
@user-rv7rq4nw8n 3 ай бұрын
Tightened the unit and hardly any air coming into the side port now. I think the fine threaded screw has a hole which would mean it would allow the passage of air from Main chamber out through the 4mm Allen head?
@GreyGooseRestorations
@GreyGooseRestorations 3 ай бұрын
Sorry got confused then, air can pass from drilled brass cap to the vent pipe as the adjustment screw has a hollow but the actual vacuum diaphragm section is a sealed area so potentially the inner small diaphragm isn't sealed so drawing in air via that
@user-rv7rq4nw8n
@user-rv7rq4nw8n 3 ай бұрын
Thanks that makes sense. May not have tightened the small screws enough. There’s also a tiny rubber o-ring like 5mm across. No idea where that went so not fitted it!
