9-1-1 Crew Member Killed in Car Crash, Angela Bassett and More React

A crew member on '9-1-1' was killed in a car accident after working a late 14-hour shift on the ABC drama series. Rico Priem worked as a grip on the show and was a member of the IATSE Local 80 crew union. A representative for 20th Television wrote in a statement to ET, 'On behalf of the studio and everyone at '9-1-1,' we send our sincere and deepest condolences to Rico Priem's family and friends.' '9-1-1' stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Aisha Hinds shared their reactions on Instagram.

14 hours? He probably passed out while driving from exhaustion. It can happen after working a hard shift or a long shift. That’s sad. R.I.P.

When i work 12 - 13 hours at my job i will sometimes take a small nap before i leave or call my fiance…I recommend if a person is working long hours days and this is their career it should also have a safe place to rest

This is where they should have sleeping quarters for those that dedicate their time to their job. Maybe this can be something they can add cause no way he should’ve been on the road at that hour after working all those hours.

This possibly could've been a heart attack (he had a heart attack previously) . The vfx crew member was first on the scene and saw the gash on his forehead and said that Rico wasn't bleeding , indicates that he was probably deceased before the impact. Either way a 14hr all-nighter at the end of an already long week (70+ hours) then driving home is always dangerous. R.I.P. 😢

I was an extra for an independent film production and after 2 hours of waiting I just didn't care about the movie and the "easy money" and left. Really spending life, and then losing it, to make a celluloid product....and waiting all night--and too exhausted worse than driving drunk, and is it really worth it? I also worked at a hospital floor desk answering phones and labeling blood samples and halfway I knew that I was getting too tired and foggy to be completely alert. There are limits to human endurance. The companies like hospitals and other agencies should pay for half-time employment and then hire new and fresh employees so the complete energy is not drained from a mere human being trying to make a living, and possibly creating accidents that could be fatal as a result of exhaustion. But in particular, in hospitals...!

The CHP in the news article said ((alcohol)) is believed to have played a factor in the crash. Don't go blaming this crash on the movie studio.

I mean, 14 hours? Is this normal in America? People should not work more than 8 hours per day. At least, that's how I learned it in Europe. I mean, if you work 14 hours a day, do you even have time for yourself? Why make your career more important than your life? people should work to live not live to work. what was the propurse of your hard effort after your died. In less than three months, everyone will forget about you. Except for your family. even Your family get over you after some times. Learn to be selfish and love yourself above everything else so that you can die without regrets..
