For the wallbox, Bluetooth connection to the app is enough to retrieve session details and upload automatically into the cloud through the phone (once phone establish internet connection). Really handy on our installation in the underground parkade. It also allows multiple user access, and can track individual user session.

Hi Nick. Excellent videos. Recently discovered your channel. Really in depth. Love it. So many factors to consider. I guess the main factor for me which you didn't touch on much is reliability and customer service. This is critical to me, being self employed. I'm not looking for a charger with all the bells and whistles. I want one that has a solid app which has had a lot of development, few issues with the chargers themselves, and decent customer support when things do go down. Who do you recommend?
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo 6 ай бұрын
Its hard for me to judge or say to be honest Roger, as I don't really use ANY of them long term or repeat test customer service. The build quality on indra is very good and they have a low failure rate but it doesn't play nicely with intelligent but does work on ovo anytime. Zappi now works on intelligent but the one at work I notice server goes down time to time but I wouldn't know if other firms had same issues more or less as I don't use there chargers. I have an ohme pro as my every day charger there support I used is ticket based on app but to be honest I never use it as I got the CEO's number and the CTO number and never had issues with them. Ill be honest everyones upped there quality game this year I'd personally only go for a charger thats on intelligent octopus

I have been through two tethered cables.. they get worn at the box and the lead eventually wares down. Untethered gives you a choice.. you can always buy a lead to keep plugged in rather than always using the one in the car. I have a 10 metre lead at home but I have the choice to take that with me if I think I might want to charge where the charger has been iced. On the whole this video only covers the point that there are different chargers.. I would have like to have known about smart chargers more and which ones did that.

The boxes are not the actual charger merely part of a dedicated supply circuit rather like your cooker or shower. The actual charger is part of the EV known as the On Board Charger. This will have a set max power consumption capacity so what the box will deliver is academic.

Never mind any of that. Look at your fuse box, where the power comes in. If there are 2 tails going into the meter and a 60A fuse the chances are you are on a looped supply (usually houses from the 50s). Then you need to ring your NDO and arrange for them to dig up your garden/ drive to unnloop you (and I hope your neighbour likes you as they may need it too). Luckily it might be free. Enjoy, I certainly didnt.

@rugbygirlsdadg 2 жыл бұрын
With the rapidly increasing electricity fees, you can see the downsides of a dynamic tariff: "your charges can go up as well as down". In-built SIM card? 3g? 4g? 5g? Beware of technological obsolescence. The SIM card will need to have 4g at least. What does it use Comms for? Can it charge when there's no Comms? (Internet/mobile network connection down) (I have decades of experience of pulling apart good ideas) iPhone user? (Apple don't care if a change to their technology renders your EV charger useless) I could go on.
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo 2 жыл бұрын
If you like it or not ALL electric will be dynamic and if you choice not be on a dynamic deal they will punish you with a massively high rate for all your electric. This is what is happening already as i explained in the video at the time i could get a non dynamic deal for 16p all day instead I went for a dynamic deal giving me 14p peak and 5p offpeak. Now this rate is 24p PEAK and 5p OFF Peak however even with that higher peak I'd average 14.5p which is far below the latest FIXED or variable price cap. The grid needs to be balanced better demanding on generation and green generation can vary more having dynamic deals means users will adjust to balance. Regarding SIM card, yes all these companies know 3g is going away the ones listed use 4g or a dongle that can be changed for newer tech. However even at 4g I'd expect time its phased out the unit would of likely lived it life out. Without internet they all work effectively DUMB meaning just charge however some work smart even with no internet with timing delays built into the charger firmware.

The grant we suspect be gone from March but as efixx just said it’s a tiny cost compared to the car or the cost of electric you could spend vs the savings of electric, i personally don’t think your see prices go up by same difference of grant going. I suspect small rise in price but only small due to; Charge point makes swallowing maybe £50/80 of the cost. Engineers not having to mess around with ozev paperwork will see cash flow is better and likely fit for lower rates due to time saved with paperwork and waiting to be paid so maybe see £50 saved here

These Are Not Electric Car chargers - EVSE kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7uFq8Vev9adfaM.html
@dukethenuke8426
@dukethenuke8426 Жыл бұрын
I’m soon to going electric and being an electrician I see all these EV chargers as overpriced 32A comando sockets. Standard 32A comando socket around £30-£40 These smart EV chargers £400-£1000. The smart features are now starting to come built in the car. As for off peak changing, you try getting a good off peak tariff at the moment as we are all be had over with them pretending to fix rates for our benefit, with falling prices of crude oil they have basically removed all the healthy competition from the market
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo Жыл бұрын
The features they have built in are not built into car, for example lots of them are electrical safety based like DC leakage protection, rcd protection and the communication protocols for the EV charger even a 13a EV charger costs £250 that’s without the same relays as one of these of course as it’s much lower amps. Regarding the smart stuff that cars have built in like time delays your likely find them to date out as doing it via charger unlocks better EV deals Check evnick.com/energy for a list of EV deals best one currently is 10p offpeak

@@NicolasRaimo thank you for the info I should have been a little more clear with reference to smart chargers, yes you need the correct RCD and O-PEN protection to comply with the current regulations, there are a few chargers out there that offer just this at a much more economical price than a fully smart EV charger that is app based or even integrated with your solar panel system. Personally I would go for a lesser model with just the required safety requirements with all the smart connectivity. I have a 4kw solar panel system on a south facing roof with a 4.8kwh battery, I don’t think paying for solar Integration is worth the added cost and it’s just more technology that can fail within the unit, yes in the summer on the few good days I can produce 20 to 30kwh of which is never gonna charge my car when it’s with you at work most of the time Monday to Friday during the day and in the winter forget about it as my 4kw solar system most days struggles to charge it’s own 4.8kwh battery let alone a 50-70kwh car battery. Also the I’m getting a Tesla that you can set within the car what time to charge to and from and at what rate. I’m sure this feature will be available in most EV car eventually if not already, so no need for a fancy smart charger for that either. The 10p per kWh sounds great and I just had a look at the info within the links you provided (thank you will definitely use your referral if a do switch). But what’s the day rate for these, I did try to find it but it’s not to easy which I found not surprising as most energy supplies are great at given you a baffling sales pitch, but engineers like us just wanna see the brass tax in the on peak rate and the daily charge, most of the suppliers out there focus to much on a monthly direct debit cost which I hate as it like trying to buy a car and all the salesman keeps going on about is monthly payments with giving you the true cost. I did look at a few EV tariffs last week, can’t remember who it was but one was offering a good night charging rate for just a few hours but their day rate was in excess of 70p kWh. I’m currently not tied in but paying a flat rate 33p/kWh, with a little maths applied unless I’m gonna be charging 2 EV on super chargers for the small window they give you the reduced rate it’s not worth paying that premium day rate. Any more info with who’s offering more reasonable day rates for their EV tariffs would be greatly appreciated
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo Жыл бұрын
@@dukethenuke8426 10p rate on intelligent gives fixed 6 hours from 12:30 till 6:30 for your general household use… if your cars plugged in it could charge between these hours or more hours or different hours and your still get the 10p rate for them hours plus the house will also! The peak rate is about 40p depending on your local network but of course the average rate is massively reduced! You could even charge your battery up on the offpeak hours! Regarding solar chargers think of it this way your not always gonna be flat and you have a smaller array than others my friend who’s a school teacher is running his entire Tesla model 3 on his solar panels!
@dukethenuke8426
@dukethenuke8426 Жыл бұрын
@@NicolasRaimo thanks I really appreciate the info 40p/kWh compared to my 33p/kWh @ an average of 2150/kWh per annum for us would be an increase of about £150 per annum taken @ 100% peak use which obviously not the case so probably at conservative calculation the actual increase would be about £130. Charging the car @ 12p saying around a 70kwh charge on average conditions would give use around 340 miles for £8.40 compared to 33p which would cost £23.10 for a 70Kwh @ 1 charge a week that would be saving around £750 per annum. But we probably do less mileage than that but even if our mileage was half that then it’s still a saving and would pay more dividends once the kid start to drive if they are electric too as one charger with planned use could easy be used in a family household of 2/3 cars, if you need to charge every night then you’re doing some serious mileage and would most likely need to chargers on your travels

@@NicolasRaimo so if they don't sent YOU a charger to review then they don't exist on sale. My gripe isn't with what you review it is with saying this is ALL chargers on sale in the UK when it isn't even close. There are brands missing which are at the forefront of the industry for price as well as features and smart ability. As you are knowledgeable about this sector I'm sure you could mention those brands if not review and at least give viewers a true picture

@@davidf5019 I can’t be expected to purchase all these chargers, just like you don’t expect car reviewers to buy every car. Market budget of 1 charger to them at cost is pennies compared to what they spend in ad words and other forms of marketing. 1 said company offered me bribe so to speak to review the product and they wanted control over the review… in other words a paid placement. This didn’t sit well with me so I declined unless it was made clear it’s an advert. I do have more companies chargers shown than on that wall which is why we didn’t drill into any of them chargers rather pointing towards the growing playlist. However I won’t be using my own funds to purchase any of these chargers and just because a company might have a market share doesn’t mean there charger is actually any good.
