[Warning: wall of txt incoming!] At university, during clinical psychology courses, I met a future therapist who also had strong ambitions as a vocalist. There were sessions in which we were expected to "bear our inner souls" so to speak. She did it via a pop/rock song, "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette. She really gave it her all and after she finished it was "feedback time". Even back then, there already was this unwritten rule that "any feedback is welcome, provided it's positive". Sometimes this rule allowed for "constructive" feedback, which basically meant the same. So imagine a group of people all praising her effort, her "courage" and musical talent until halfway down the circle it was my turn to chip in. Perhaps you can already guess my contribution. I also praised her courage, i.e. to appear before others submitting them to what appeared to me as truly talentless and substandard singing. I also detected some measure of exhibitionism and a "take me as I am" attitude. I suggested her to consider other hobbies that didn't involve her voice. For some reason, she became rather hostile quite quickly ;) I explained to her, side-eyeing the course leader, that what I did was an attempt at breaking the "feedback code", prescribing ppl conformism to the ever increasing cesspool of "positive thought" (i.e. the fear of critique, leading to censorship). Needless to say, you could hear a pin drop when I finished venting my honest opinion. Then, progressing further down the line, the denouncing ensued. I was deemed rude, insensitive, a "male chauvinist" even and so on. There was one however, who supported my take on things. I remember her saying that being positive is nice, but that being honest is vastly more important if there's ever any progress to be made at any level, be it personal, community or society as a whole. Wow.. her defiant smile really hit me. Needless to say we became instant, and as it turned out, lifelong friends. Honesty nurturing true emotion & true devotion (yes, I'm quoting Floor now, from her song "Strong"). So here I am two decades onwards, having accepted myself exactly as I am, as I were and always will be: a big bad evil Dutchie, haha 😉😇 /rant Wishing you all the best for what hopefully will turn out to be a fabulous year for you & yours Christi. Won't be that much on YT anymore, so here's to trve mvsic connecting kindred spirits beyond convention and mere opinion. Keep singing what you can't say! As always, cheers from Amsterdam! 🖤🤘

Constructive criticism - if you only give half the time to speak the text that you used to speak the text then it’s not really possible today the affirmations. Which defeats the point, no?
