Hi guys,
Although I love Kazakhstan dearly, in this video I wanted to share with you top 9 things I DON'T like about living in Kazakhstan.
Hope you enjoy and learn something new! :)
Here's the entire list:
1. My personal pain - finding fresh salads, avocados is more challenging and there's less selection, you have to wash most of it.
I haven't seen kale in stores or bazaars here.
2. People seem mean at first, I myself am guilty of that and have a problem of resting bitch face, it's not common to have a small talk here.
At the same time strangers can comment on your look or your behaviour and point out to something, judge you.
3. BEAUTY is OVERRATED. Women sometimes go too far with beauty.
4. PEOPLE STARE AT YOU.
5. LAZINESS.
6.Super-heavy classic guest-room furniture.
7. PUBLIC TOILETS. Cannot stress this one enough.
8. SHOWING OFF. First impression matters a lot in Kazakhstan.
People judge you by appearance.
9. People drive really crazy,
Taxis stop right on the street blocking the lane from driving.

I spent a week in Almaty - as an American that speaks Russian - I found every interaction to be open, friendly energetic - everybody wanted to know WHY is an AMERICAN 'here' - I had a great time. I will go back in the Spring when it is *WARMER*

Nice video, I would agree on most of it, except for laziness. Seriously, we are not lazy, this is just a stereotype. I have worked both in Almaty and Chicago, and Kazakh people actually work as much as Americans (at least in Chicago). This is a generalization, but still, if you do not have any financial support and want a good career in Kazakhstan, you gotta work a lot.

The looks part I've experienced it myself a lot because my complexion is a bit dark my lord how people were staring and wanting to take selfies with me, I mean men, women, young people, old people, waiters, taxi drivers, I must have taken more pictures with people in Kazakhstan than Michael Jackson did in his entire life 😂 it didn't bother me though, made me feel like a celebrity 😂

I think people like to show off wealth in almost every culture. In some places, being overweight shows you have money. In Kazakhstan, it seems that people like to get black SUVs. So I wouldn’t take that as a negative about Kazakstan, because showing off your wealth, in which ever way that may be, is just a part of human nature.

As a Quebecer (Canada), the driving seems so off. When I drive, I'm always super chill and think of leaving 4-5-6 car lengths so other drivers can easily switch lanes. Always happy to get a hand gesture as thank you from the other driver, and it's also part of "Defensive Driving" which translates into driving like everyone is a bumbling idiot that needs his personal space or he'll cause an accident. "What would a bad driver do...? Cut me off without signaling, of course, therefor I must leave him space to do so." (Also, data shows that Defensive Driving dampens and prevents traffic altogether.)

I had Kazakhstan young adult students before I retired. They were all very good and I enjoyed having them in my classes (Chicago area) -- they were excellent in fact. I did not know much about your country at that time; your videos are really good and I enjoy them all. Unfortunately, they were not available when I was working. I am getting hooked on them and learning more about other countries and cultures.

Perhaps they are not really “lazy”. Maybe people feel free, and not driven to constantly produce like here in America. It’s good to feel comfortable in enjoying your time as you see fit. Now, if Kazak people are bored or frustrated that’s not good. I need more information to understand this “lazy” behavior correctly. This may tie into operating on their own schedule. Perhaps they like being independent and free.

#2 is just how people all across Eurasia are, from Eastern Europe to East Asia (but not South Asia). This is not an exclusively Russian phenomenon. I lived in China, and people absolutely are this way in China. Whether one is in China, Kazakhstan, or Russia, this is a pervasive feature of social life and people’s personalities in this region of the world.

Kazakhs are an ancient people of Turkic origin, the language of the Turkic Kipchak dialect. They were part of the state of Genghis Khan and ruled the Russian state for 300 years. In ancient times, our ancestors invaded China, in which China was forced to build a Chinese wall from our raids. We are a transitional race from the Mongoloid to the Europoid, this is called the Turanian race .
