Hi - thanks for amazing video - my 92 Fox needs both sides done, provided excellent preview of what we are up against. Question - do you need to remove fenders? We were lucky to get ahold of LMR smooth rail replacement kit, so don't have to use our brake to bend and fit. Will cover fenders of course to protect from weld.

One question what is the problem with these Mustangs with the subframe shock Tower on a driver side that is is constantly I'm hearing about even at car car shows that they got this rust on the driver side near the well though the frame in this is just a week sign from Ford and making a the chassis stronger what's going on why is this it's not happening on the passenger side it's always on the driver's side of what these friends shot times that needs to be running all the time especially the older Mustangs

Was told years ago ford used salt water to clean their dies and tools when making parts. Not sure really but they definitely All do it, even done one a while back the guy claimed it has been garaged since new and it literally looked like a brand new car inside and out except for the driver tower.

Do you have to build it back with sheet metal or could you just use some 2x2 or 2x3 and drill holes for the k member?
@bpbrestorations2093 Жыл бұрын
I have seen it done both ways and both looked good and functioned properly. We have only done it with sheet metal just to make it more of a "factory" looking repair.

Great job on the Rustang. I just wanted to warn you about the fumes when welding galvanized metal, the melting zinc fumes can be deadly and those crush tubes looked like they were galvanized. Watching the video when you cut the last piece from the bottom of the frame it looked like the front end dropped. Did you have the front end supported when you made the cut? Great video with tons of information, thanks for posting.
@bpbrestorations20934 жыл бұрын
The front end in fact did drop slightly. I didnt talk about it much, but it was smashed in the driver side front 15 years ago and a terrible repair was done and they didnt straighten anything. It actually needed brought back down close to 3/8 inch to be like the other side. I didnt really want to complicate things in the video because most of yall repairing the rust wont have the accident damage to worry about. And yes galvanized is bad dont breath it! Thanks for watching!

Honestly I dont have much experience flux core welding at all. I believe it probably can be done. Just set you up a test panel and try to butt weld them together and make a bunch of practice welds until you feel like you have the welder set for that gauge you are using. Then give it a shot and if you need any advice on welder setup hit up Fitzees Fabrication on here he has a great video explaining it!

If you could figure out how to make exact copies of the chassis, you would become very wealthy. It's possible, not sure why no one is doing it. They do it with 60s era mustangs where you can just buy an aftermarket frame and chassis. Why not do that with the foxbody?

I'm not saying it can not be done that way. But in my honest opinion in order to do it right and to get it welded solid the engine really needs pulled. It's not too hard, just nuts and bolts. Sometimes if you look you can find a local shop willing to pull it out for you and reinstall after you are done with the rust repair, for a small fee.

@@bpbrestorations2093 I appreciate the response, I just picked up an 88 the passenger side is perfect the driver side is solid except the line on the seam where you initially cut that part out, it’s crusty and rotted just on that seam in a perfect line.
