Check out Part 2! • 90's Country Guitar So...
90's country was the kind of music I grew up listening to, and it still takes up plenty of space in my personal playlist. This video is a random grab of 19 different songs and the solos that make them special. I could have picked 100 songs, there are so many great ones to choose from!
Learning these songs was a super fun educational challenge, too. I never was great at chicken pickin, and these tunes don't rely on the angry minor pentatonic that I love to lean on. I've never bent so many strings as these songs call for. I added a ton of licks and techniques to my bag of tricks just from this short video.
Thanks for watching! Check out my channel for more (mostly) punk, thrash, and metal covers.

So glad you included a Porter Howell solo on there. He and Jimmy Olander never get enough credit, and it's a shame, because they are two of the greatest!

@@njcowboy78 YES! Absolutely! I studied Porter's playing for this video. The harmonic he sneaks in (at 5:38) followed by the neck bend is so gnarly. Also, notice how there's no Diamond Rio in this video? I'm not sure I'm brave enough to tackle ol' Jimmy O just yet. :)

Loved it. I started playing in 1985 at 15 yrs old. I'm a hair metal player. Ratt, Maiden, Dokken, etc. My utube name says it all, but I love 90s country and I love country guitar playing. Albert Lee, Johnny Hiland, Brent Mason, Vince Gill, and Jimmy Olander, just to name a few of the top gunslingers, are SERIOUS business. That is some seriously tough stuff to play.

Man, this video just made my week! Awesome! This type of stuff defined 90s country. I just love how a good deal of these solos (with the exception of those we know are played by the artists themselves, like sawyer brown, little Texas, the headhunters, Vince, Junior, Marty etc...) were played by Brent Mason! And it’s obvious sir, that you have put a lot of time into studying Brent Mason. Very well done! I’m a huge Merle Haggard fan. Have you ever thought of doing this same kind of compilation with Roy Nichols’ solos?

That's so kind! Thank you! Brent is so damn good. I was honestly a novice and country licks when I started this video. I can't believe how much I've learned since then. Are you using an effect on that baritone guitar or something ? Sounds incredible a bit like an old gretsch somehow. Very 50s like.. slapback delay ? Some added effect like that ? Or sitar effect something more unique like that ? Or is that guitar just have a unique tone ? If so what guitar is that ? Great video
@coversongthriftshop
@coversongthriftshop 2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks! The only effect on that section is a standard slapback delay, which I have running pretty much all the time! The guitar is a PRS SE Mike Mushok Baritone. If I recall correctly, for that section it was tuned down entire OCTAVE to E. I had to play super lightly because the strings basically felt like spaghetti noodles at that point! Haha.
