yes. anyone will say that. a better question is "720p/60fps or 1080p/30fps". also 900p doesn't really cause *that* much of a performance increase, so if you're getting 900p/60fps you theoretically have a better pc than the one with 1080p/30fps on his games. WTH am i doing with my life

All depends on the size of the display and how close you sit to it. On a 32in sitting 8 ft away I do not see a difference between 720P and 1080P. This is how I watch TV sitting in bed. You will clearly see a difference on a monitor up close but if you are using a 20in monitor which was the standard back in the mid 2000s you really won't see much of a difference between 1080P native and 900P native

Agreed 900p looks way better on my 32" vs 1080p.

in order to fill up a 1080p image on a 1080p monitor every pixels corresponds to a color of the image. With 900p you have a resolution of 1600 x 900 which is different from 1920 x 1080 (in height and width). Both use the same aspect ratio 16:9, so with 900p you have about 20% less pixels compared to 1080p in order to make up for this and to fill in all the pixels of your 1080p display there will be done some interpolation and guessing resulting in less quality. If this interpolation wouldn't happen it would result in black bars on every side of the screen. As a result your quality will look more washed out. (if you ever used a photo editing program you see if you downscale your image and then upscale it back to the original size you lose quality, even though interpolation isn't the exact same as upscaling it works similar) Both games will look the exact same on your tv, with the exact same aspect ratio and no stretching is done, if this would be the case (your theory) than DVD's of 480p would look more than twice as stretched on a 1080p display. The p in resolutions stands for the horizontal resolution in order to find the vertical you divide by 9 and multiply by 16 since that is the aspect ratio of most tv's and monitors. In conclusion since not every pixel can be filled because of missing data it will be 'guessed' and therefore it will look more washed out. If you watch a lot of old movies, DVD's, that were made over 10 years ago (480p) on your 1080p TV you will notice the movie you watch isn't sharp seems to have a lot of noise and artifacts and you miss crispness, since data is guessed.

A year later I would like to say that for games with heavy aliasing 1080p is way better,like for example rdr2 which now currently I cannot run on my 900p monitor due to a game issue that makes the aspect ratio 4:3 and I used to could change it using cheat engine but now I can't ..... Also the game uses heavy taa and so at 900p everything looks super blurry even when the game is running at 16:9 so I can't wait to get my 1080p monitor and make everything look more crisp

All of my videos are up scaled to 4k to reduce the effects of compression. Even though it is only a 1080p video, the bitrate that 4k uploads allow makes a huge difference.

the difference is most felt when going down from 1080 to 900, after awhile it should be differentiable but not too much.

It also depends on. Your screen size. A big 60 inch tv you're going to easly notice the difference vs a small. 24 inchh

Have you done a comparison with the same game on the same console? What else is different between the two tv? There are other tv specs beside resolution that can effect picture quality.

While the difference may be visual for the normal human eye at close ranges, please do realize that in this video i was betting on the now called "Switch" being a console, which means sitting far away from the screen (I should have noted that). At a far enough distance everything is indistinguishable unless you frame pick.

LTEGaming I think that is a very fair point you made because distance has a huge impact on viewing perception. I myself can't distinct a 4k tv with a 1080p tv, but the difference between 1080p and 900p on this video on my monitor was fairly noticeable and easy to perceive. On the other hand for those people who have a large TV might notice the difference. However I think the visual difference will be really small on an averaged sized TV with a 2-3 meter spacing from the TV and normal eyes, so most won't see a noticeable difference. So I suppose it doesn't matter much for the switch to render games at 900p.

Robin Clarijs you are still right though, because i was wrong about the switch being a console only, your argument still stands. people will be holding that 720p screen up near their faces.

LTEGaming the thing is that the switch itself is 6.5 inch with a 720p screen giving you a dpi of 225. a 50 inch tv with a 900p resolution has a dpi of 36 which is very low for nowadays standards. For a dpi of 35 the optimal minimum view distance is 5m / 16ft. I know my brother sits about 2-3 meters away from his tv for which a DPI in between the 60 and 90 is required optimally. Lets say he has a 30 inch 900p monitor then the DPI would be 61 and the optimal minimum viewing distance for that is 3m / 10ft, since 30 inch is relatively small he would probably sit around 2 meters from his screen or even less, actually needing a dpi of 90 or higher in order to not lose quality. (these numbers are done with dpi calcs and with charts presenting the optimal view distance with a certain DPI for normal eye sight and light conditions). Now if you look at the switch handheld having a DPI of 225, if you realize the 15inch macbook pro retina has a DPI of 220 and the switch has a higher DPI you can conclude that the switch will be near retina as well if you hold it about the same distance as you would look at your macbook pro, which obviously is a slight shorter but it would still look very good. The thing is in all examples above one could see 1080p or even 1440p would still be noticeable on a TV, monitor. So I stay with the point that 1080p would have been better for the console. Beside the switch uses a tegra x1 chip which is even in docked mode underclocked at 768Hz while the nvidia shield is clocked at 1GHz using the same chip. As you can see the GPU runs more than 20% slower which could have been used in the docked mode to reach 1080p. I can understand that for the handheld higher clock speeds aren't possible but I do see quite a lot of potential wasted on the docked mode. Heat could have been an issue but if the docking station would have a cooling solution this all would be pretty possible.

That's due to the upscaling of Sony Vegas. I should have tried to correct that now that i think about it.

900P is honestly better for running games on a laptop than 1080P

@@likeclockwork6473 900p is also a good resolution for older Desktops cause you can throw in a RX 560 and get 60+ fps at medium or better settings :) And for laptops, you can usually go down to 720p.

JKerman511 usually a 15 fps difference. Games like skyrim barely hold 30 as it is usually at 28. That 15 fps would render it unplayable. In a test most games at 720 that ran 80 fps , would run like 63 on 900 and 50 at 1080. Console games get as much graphic quality they can to run stable at 30 which they still have drops. That" only hundred pixels " would cut the fps down to where it wouldn't be playable or worth it :(

Console hardware is extremely weak, in summary. I hope that answers your question friend

myjy Honestly, the devs are stupid when it comes to optimisation. They have the exact specs of the device that the game will run on, and a long time to optimise it, so make it do 60fps. That is seen as the minimum now.
