I Tried 900p Gaming in 2020 on a Budget Dell PC

When I first got into PC gaming, I was using a small 900p Dell monitor. While I don't still have that screen, today I'm trying out a few recent games to see if 900p gaming is still viable in 2020 for pc gamers or if it's off the table for those just getting into PC gaming.

Resolution isn't as important to me as I thought it would be. 4K looks awesome, but I can still easily have just as much fun playing games at 720p 60fps... with some decent AA and a little sharpening of course.

My experience as well. I always try to get to 1080p even for budget systems, but my go-to for high end gaming is 1440p. I'll take the extra FPS over a slightly better looking image any day.

Before I was using 1080P and I got my glasses and I was like 900p is all I need.

900P is the budget sweet spot of resolutions. Its only 70% of the draw load a 1080P panel is and you don't lose much clarity. I'd buy a $250 26.6in 1600x900 panel for a budget machine if they actually produced them. Both the PS4 and Xbox One ran a lot of games at this resolution. Also pushing into higher refresh rate territories shows that the pixel performance needed for 1600x900 120hz isn't even 50% higher than drawing 1080P 60hz. Its a sweet spot really and entirely producible by manufacturers if they desired.

It all depends on how far you seat & play, for example I game on a BIG 900p TV, surely I can't tell difference of it from a 4k TV while seating so far back, but the performance is sooo high.

I game at 1280x1024 on a CRT always max settings. 85fps locked. No issues. The crt is blur free.

I can remember back in like 2006 when blur was kinda bad on LCD monitors

@@looweegee252 yeah. Best part is a lower Res on a CRT can be run from a cheaper GPU. But finding a good CRT now is hard. I got lucky. Hopefully oled will improve.

@@ravin6771 my power strip has 10 LEDs and when the CRT turns on it does not light up any more LEDs than when off. It's a late model CRT illyama vision master pro 454

Depends on the size of the screen. Switch has a 720p screen and games still look fantastic on it. If you are gaming on a 13-14 inch laptop, there's no problem at all gaming with 900p. But in TV mode, 1080 or 4k is the way to go

i use the dell 2014hf and run at 80ghz now till i buy a 1080p 144hz...this was my uncles old moniterr,,,isnt too bad

Almost 2 meters away from a 24" 768p TV that is also a monitor and fine tune it from the GPU's control panel looks nearly 1080p and the rx 480 maxes nearly everything that way lol. If u have like a 200 bucks HD smart tv from 2020 or so(pretty modern) u can force it to accept super res tho the max u should use is 900p. U can force 1080p but it looks really bad. The imager per se won't improve much tho the textures in game will and u can tell that. Use MSAA x4 and AA too(NO TAA!).

@@KC-bg1th If you are using an AMD card, try enabling Radeon Image Sharpening. At 83% scaling, it makes 900p on a 1080p monitor looks much much better. Most of the time they are virtually indistinguishable.

Unpopular opinion: resolution doesn't matter. I have been flipping PCs for two years now, from the people I sold a build to, no one cared what resolution the game would run at, it just had to run on the monitor they already had/they bought especially for the build (considering I sell mostly cheap 200-300€ builds, no one actually spent much on a monitor). The majority of the population doesn't even have a 1080p monitor, and those who do don't need 60fps or higher, their panel is most likely limited to 60Hz anyway.

I need help I have this 32" 1080p TV the problem is its 50hz and then I saw a 20 inch monitor 900p but with 60hz

Maybe it's becouse you have older TV on my bedroom i have old 32" Panasonic and it happens to me in my livingroom TV 55" smart it doesn't happened. I just fix it changing resolution for a lower one backing to 1080p and then go advance adapter display and changing to 60Hzs not 59.9 like it was set before by default

I'm here for CP2077. I have a 1650 and 8gb ram and i hoe i can run the game at 30-20 fps at med-high on 900p

Yeah you’re absolutely right 900P Medium/High will give you 30+ frames no problem

@@btd1114 not very well. Had to turn the crowd density to low and had to go med-low settings for it not to drop below the high 20s

Stop lying people, the diff between 900p and 1080p is huge... I have a 1440*900 monitor since 2007 and i dont see the time to upgrade it to 1440p 😭..
