Bondi Rescue follows the work of the elite professional Lifeguards who patrol Australia’s busiest beach. This is Australia’s real life Baywatch! Taking the viewers on their journey through mass rescues, drownings, #resuscitations, shark sightings, and all number of the weird and wonderful experiences Bondi Beach dishes up.
In #BondiRescue the audience sees the action through the eyes of real characters and lifeguards like Hoppo, Deano, Reidy, Jesse, Maxi, Whippet and Harries, as they catch thieves, perform CPR, make drug busts, break up fights, and even handle a navy bomb that washes ashore one afternoon. You can just tell, that it's a bloke rescuing another bloke 😂 We ladies learn a lot quicker, how much it hurts to be grabbed by the hair (since in general, we have longer hair. And hell, that hurts even more than short hair, when grabbed during childish squabbles/tangly hair combing, etc). This leaves many of us, with an aversion to grabbing people's hair - and most women with empathy, wouldn't grab hair as a result. 🤣 I'm NOT saying they are doing anything wrong, by any means (especially where there is shorter hair). Air is NATURALLY the priority over head pain. But personally, I would grab for his arm first :) If you want a comparison, imagine this - for whatever reason, a guy's crotch (that you are rescuing, as a male rescuer) is nearest to you. Makes most sense to grab that part closest to you (his crotch), to pull him up. However, your years of empathy for how PAINFUL that is, leads you to grab for his leg/feet instead 😂

In any sort of water rescue it’s standard to grab someone’s hair. It’s proper protocol. It keeps them from trying to drag you under and it keeps their head above water. I’m sure there’s a lot more to it that I’m not aware of.

Chhin Cy NGIS You see, they’re fully grown adults, and most of them have boards. Kind of clear that they went out to swim. I’ve almost drowned a few times, so I get your fear, however, I overcame it, and I am now able to swim lengths with no problem. I wish the same future apron you.

I rate myself as a fairly decent swimmer, or at least was a fairly decent swimmer. Personally? I would ask advice off the lifeguards first of where the safest area is to swim, before entering the water. I grew up on the North East coast of England where you get unpredictable weather/tides, and would never venture out further than I was comfortable with (ie, can still touch the bottom after a wave passes) An unknown body of water is incredibly dangerous to go into, no matter how experienced you are.

No need to ask. That's what we have the red and yellow flags for. They signal the safest place to swim.

Ah, but if you ask the lifeguards they give the overview of the beach and tidal patterns, so that you can judge where the safest place is. I agree the flags are great, but with the ever moving patterns they are sometimes not accurate

My swimming instructor says im a strong swimmer and my mum refuses to let me go over ankle deep in the ocean and thats me pushing her. And i can swim over 3000 meters in a pool. But I don’t want to put my life or the lifeguards life at risk. There are 4 beaches (2 mini ones) and there are 5 lifeguards on patrol between the 2 main beaches and none on the two mini beaches

I have never once seen a guard use a whistle on Bondi Rescue. Whistling for someone's attention and gesturing them where to go is much more universal than shouting through a megaphone in a language you know 20% of the people don't speak. Keep the megaphone, add a whistle.
