Lisa Steele’s family has been raising chickens for five-generations. She has a popular blog and Facebook page to share poultry tips. A question she’s often asked is if eggs should be washed after being collected from the hen house. The short answer is “No”. Eggs are laid with a natural coating on the shell called the “bloom” or “cuticle”. This coating is the first line of defense in keeping air and bacteria out of the egg. Eggshells are porous, so when you wash them you’re removing that natural barrier. Unwashed eggs can sit on your kitchen counter at room temperature for a couple of weeks and they’ll still be edible. But once they’ve touched water, they need to be refrigerated. Store-bought eggs have been cleaned so they need to go in the fridge.

My wife and I have lived in a rural area for almost 40 years now and have really enjoyed it, but it can be difficult at times. It helps when you have a good team to lighten the load and it looks like you have a good team on your place.

Great job, Haley! You were huge help! Haley reminds me of myself at her age. I was always the one hangin' out with dad and the grandpa's. I was always fascinated with whatever was going on from driving the tractors for harvest to tearing down the lawn mower for repairs. It didn't matter. It was all so fascinating to me.

Good job on the winch! The hay bale on the front of the Kubota reminded me of a stump I dug out with my Kubota. It was big and heavy. I strapped it to the bucket, but could only lift it about an inch off the ground, but that was enough to get it to the burn pile. Another time I dug out a bigger stump with a Cat 420. The Cat would not lift the stump, another guy operated the 420 while I used the Kubota to help lift the stump, which we had chained to the bucket. We were able get that stump to a fill area. Amazing machines!

Wow it must be tough to find the driveway with the plow : ) but you all are doin it.

I do not miss living in the Snow. Looks you and yours have things well under control. Good for you.

Just looking for new content yesterday. 😁 Maybe use that unused hay bail tarp to side in the Kubota. Glad you didn't hit Haley's bike. My brother kept busting sheer pins on his snowblower. From hitting stuff he "forgot" to clear up before the snow fell. Mostly firewood. He's got the BX series Kubota. He is constantly swapping the front bucket with the front snowblower. He has the backhoe on for weight. Snowblower is a must for this much snow. But it's no good at grabbing firewood rounds.

When I lived in the UP neighbors had a hot water line dug out to their barn with a frost free water hydrant inside the barn.

Haylee does a heck of a job good kid i learned about the winch too have been wanting to get one it would be a important tool around here but if you dont know how to operate properly can be very dangerous this video shows how much work there is just to keep snow cleared even with the nice equipment you have kubota tractor ,4 wheels drives winches good to see the family enjoying the beautiful snow

That looked familiar. We got a huge dump at the end of October. One day we were working on cleaning up the garden and the next day we were under 2 feet of snow. It was totally unexpected. It was so much my tractor couldn't handle it and I had to hire someone to plow me out. We followed that up with two months of very cold weather and additional snow, we have had two years of winter in the first two months. Have fun.
