YOU'RE GONNA WANNA WATCH THE ENTIRE VIDEO TO UNDERSTAND THE GOOD STUFF!
In this video, our family drives a well 60 feet down and gets a surprise in the end..
We have had a professional well driller come out and give us some pointers. Unfortunately, they can NOT get their Well drilling rigs out to our property...
It’s up to us to get a well in before the big freeze!!

This is the number one comment we get. As I e mentioned in the comments we have tried using the tractor to do just that. The tractor wouldn’t do it. It doesn’t have a free fall bucket loader. It goes down with hydraulic speed and isn’t at all tough enough. Not worth the effort or fuel.

@@9252LIFE What about using the other end of the tractor? The three point hitch? I was thinking about doing a well, but blasting it out with a 2500+ pressure washer making extensions for the wand. Any thoughts on that?

@@mfgxl if you have access to the pressure washer and the water I’d definitely give that a shot! Especially if your ground is sand and clay like mine and not hard rock.

What video did you finally solve your problem in? Did the professional well drillers ever give you any advice on what to use to prevent the mud from clogging the holes? You'd think there was something. My guess would be that you need a lot more space between your intake and the mud. Maybe you need to line a larger hole with concrete, wide enough that water seeps in at a rate that you can draw it out, or maybe you have to dig a hole that will hold so many gallons and wait for it to fill up anytime you use it enough to empty it.

I tried to use a 544 John Deere loader to push in a 1.25" sand point and pipe in my well, I have sand and thought it would be easy, but loaders and tractors don't push straight down so the pipe and fittings want to bend. I used a sledge hammer.

Seeing your girls working and helping brings a smile to my face. My two helped me build a 2600 sq foot house on weekends and over summer break. Little older than yours. They mostly carried things and did dirt work till I had it closed in then they pulled wire stripped the ends. Did insulation in July heat (Their favorite, they called it cotton.) Cut and carried sheetrock as well as helping me hang it. I'd tell them the size they cut carry and I'd fit and nail. It was a long job as I/we did 85% of the work ourselves. They said they found out what they didn't want to do for a living. Especially the "cotton". They built a lot of character with the house.

I too, drove a well using 1" pipe in 6' sections. The well would not keep it's prime. On pulling the pipe out, I found the couplings all damaged and leaking. After re-threading, I twisted the pipe in sections using about 100 pounds of top weight. This has been working about 15 years. You must develop the well by forcing water down. This pushes the clay way leaving rock and sand. Before you give up try developing the well. Next, use a plastic pipe down the bore. This will bypass the joint leaks. Good Luck

Awesome work! Brings back a memory from 2007 roughly. A friend I don't see too much nowadays had an uncle that hammered in his well. Spent some whole days tunking that pipe. He built up a bit of scaffolding to shape a bit of a cherry picker so to speak. Hung a pulley and tied a heavy weight to the rope. That way we could do our tunking from the ground and all we had to do was pull a rope. He tunked that pipe for a couple weeks before he had good clean water. All the work you are putting in will help a body appreciate that water all the more. Hats off friend and here's to family!! Peace and grace.

Neighbor caught an old Deep Rock portable well drilling rig on CL for pennies on the $. We reconditioned it, added my old gas powered trash pump & welded up an oversized (for this rig) bit. Sunk a 65'er, after his driven shallow well failed. Been working fine & saved him thousands. Especially since he sold it later for more than the entire project cost. Good on ya though. If it's got tires, batteries, or an engine, you're guaranteed to never have a boring day. ;)

I feel for you, that is a lot of work and frustration. My well is a shallow well made with 4 foot cement rings. You dig a bit drop in a ring and dig more so that the well can't collapse on itself. Mine is 14 feet deep and the water is held in the rings. I don't know if a system like this would work for you where you are or not. The encouraging thing is you have water, it is just figuring out how to get it. Some of my neighbours had to go 800 feet before hitting water, and then they only have a little bit. If it's only broken 8 feet down, dance around and cheer!!! I lived in upstate NY. You don't go 1 foot let alone 40-50 feet without hitting rocks that you may not be able to get through. That's good to know (a well digger came up with equipment") I've been praying for that to happen. That a professional came up with pointers, that would help, is also an answer to my prayers. You are good! You are motivated, if anyone can get it done, it's YOU! I promise I will keep praying for water; for success.

A hammer drill set on the "hammer" or vibrate mode will really sink pipe or rod into the ground quickly. It's almost like magic if you've never tried it before... I'm not sure how well it would drive that large of a pipe, but I've used it on smaller diameter and it worked incredibly well. Just have to rig up a bit with a larger diameter pipe to fit over the one you are driving. Good work there! Looks like a heck of a job!! 👍

You guys rock! I've been there an struggled with a lot of the same well issues so I know where you're coming from. One recommendation I'd like to offer is when you fix your pipe and start digging again is to move the bucket of the tractor up to the pipe and attach a rope or strap to the upper most part of the pipe. This will help steady it and make every tap count without damaging the pipe which is what your experiencing from continual blows. If you set it so the tilt function on your bucket is what is supplying the downward pressure you'll have better control and feel for pressure being applied. It takes a small amount of hydraulic downforce similar to what was used to remove your old pipe. Let the tractor do the heavy lifting for you, or in the case heavy down pressure.

I’m sure someone already told you but just in case. They make special couplers for driving in pipe. They are much stronger. You got lucky you didn’t shatter one. They also make a drive cap you put on the end so you don’t damage threads.
@9252LIFE
@9252LIFE 2 жыл бұрын
Yes they are the expensive drive couplers. The drive caps are no good for this type of depth as the threads on the cap aren’t very deep. We’ve broke the threads on everyone before getting down 20 ft.

Considering what contractors charge per foot for drilling, this is not a bad comp. I have used post drivers for years as, I, have found them easier to control. Swinging a 16 to 20 lb. sledge takes more strength and control. Yes, you get more impact with the sledge, but at cost. I had a machine shop weld extra plate on top of a post driver. Made it 36lbs. It was a work out. But, if I hit rock, I could smack the driver with the sledge, bust rock, not damage the driver. A sledge is a lot harder than a post driver to use, all told.

I've done what is called a sump in this type situation. All you need is to dig out a large enough area and fill it in with gravel/sand around your pump. Water seeps into the fill and that will fix your clay issue.

The gravel/sand acts as a giant filter. If you don't have enough water getting to the pump all you need do is run a trench out from the sump and fill it with gravel/sand to increase available water. The main thing is to dig your sump deep enough to start. In my case it was about 30 feet by 10 feet wide. With a trench around the Vinyard and we had all the water we wanted.

2" pipe drives better. They sell drive tips that screw on. Once driven down you flush it out with a 1" under water pressure, until clear. I never had luck with drive points or smaller pipe. You get A's for effort and creativity. Dig an access shaft down alongside 5 feet to further evaluate it. since you have a PVC outer casing, can you center the pipe with an insert and seal the outer casing with a super dense product that would harden and seal the break area? Just some thoughts. Farmers would erect a tripod 12 ' high, suspend a snatch block with a rope and 50+lb slammer. They welded a circular weight centered over an axel and an eye for the rope. Wrapping a rope around a rear truck wheel with tire removed,with truck jacked up and idling in gear, when they pulled the rope tight on the wheel, the weight was raised up when loosened the weight slammed down and drove down the pipe. Many many farm wells were driven(slammed) by a variation of this method. Double welded wheel rims and slammers were made and loaned out to other farmers and homesteaders. It takes at least 50 lbs to slam a well. You will prevail. Never give up--kids are watching.

I've hammered down many hand wells here in my area of AK. I've done most of the ones for my neighbors. I use an electric jack hammer. I make my own gravel points without screens. I then blow the dirt out with pex hooked to air compressor. I also use my backhoe to dig a hole so I can stand on the jack hammer.
