Adding this to my list. I'm from Europe so I've mostly been drinking German Spätburgunder - their name for Pinot Noir, simply because Burgundy is out of my price range. Ironically the best Pinot Noir I've ever tried was from 2015. and I don't even remember the producer because I hadn't yet become a wine enthusiast, so to say. It was from Mosel. The best I do remember was 2019. JJ Adeneuer Rosenthal Pinot Noir. Well worth the price which was 45€ or about 50 bucks. Last year I made 40L of my own Pinot from Ahr valley grapes. It's perfectly clear, it's been sitting on French oak chips for 2 months already so it's time to bottle that soon. From what I've been told the extraction rate is 1 month on the chips = 6 months in the barrel.

Good luck! I love the Ahr and German Spatburgunder in general.

@2.12 you say that wine ratings are going up. Isn’t that just the case because wine is getting better? Since there has been so much technological innovation, there is less vintage variation and winemakers can make consistently better wine.

Totally agree with Dr Horkey’s comment. Almost everything is money driven. Some are using technology to make better wine and drive up quality, scores, prices and sales. However, some are also using scores themselves to drive their business (James Suckling is a great example of this). Scores are an extremely complex animal, but I can remember 30 years ago in the wine service industry where an 89 point score was touted as good. 89 today is considered sub-par or average at best. You don’t see too many sub-90 scores anymore; either they’re not being given out, or they’re not being shown. 30 years ago we’d see a lot more scores in the 80s and they weren’t bad wines; however perceptions have changed along with scores, and in some cases quality too (in both directions). Having said all that, I still look at scores (but with a grain of salt).

While wine is improving all around the world, I think score inflation outpaces quality improvement

My highest scoring Aussie pinots are consistently the Farr Cote R&P single vineyard wines. 2016 was a standout. If you can’t get it, their Sangreal is a beauty too. I also love Dawson and James from Tasmania. Very reliable. That Argentinian wine sounds like great value. And I’d love to try the Lingua Franca……

Sipping a budget Burg from Irancy while watching. Not bad for the price (around 20€). My best Pinot Noir was a Confuron-Cotetidot Vosne-Romaneé 1er Cru "Les Suchots" 2012 that I had last year. Also happens to be the most I've ever paid for a bottle of wine so I was happy it delivered, which is far from a given when drinking Burgundy.

Great tasting, as you mentioned it's very hard to find a good Pinot at a decent price. Those bottles would be be about $90 here. Recently had a California Pinot, it had the oak forward, but it was not over the top like many California reds. Scoring this high, these wines are probably worth the price.

I think that the term "crowd favorite" is very subjective. When I hear the term, I think of having bought a wine either for the pool or an unformal family get together 3 or 4 bottles at a time but for $45-65 Dollars, that is not happening. To me, a "crowd favorite" comes in at $10-$20 a bottle. Tnanks for the video, I also enjoy them. As far as scores go, I review wine on KZfaq and other platforms as well and I give scores. I think we have to remember that wine itself is subjective. What you look for or like in a specific varietal, I might not look for or like so I think it is super important to know the palate of the person whose opinion you are reading.

I have a question about white pepper being something that you smelled when you first tried the nose of the first wine. I’m in the meat business and we use white pepper in different sausages. White pepper is just really finely ground black pepper, but to me and my employees it smells terrible. I’ve always likened the smell to dead insects. So, I’m not trying to be rude or silly, but I’m wondering why white pepper would be a smell that someone notices? I’m wondering if they ever smelled white pepper. Black pepper itself smells normal, but for some reason grinding it into a fine powder changes the scent of it. You know much more about wine than I do, but the description of white pepper really surprised me.

A few other of my favorites include the 2008 Domaine Serene Evenstad, and more recently the 2020 Tyler Sanford & Benedict and the surprising 2020 Greystone Vineyard Ferment tasted at the winery in Waipara, New Zealand earlier this year. I love Lingua Franca, I drive by them every day on my way to work!!! As for the "highest rated," or the highest scoring, I think elitism in wine has become a liability. Our market share is shrinking. We work too hard in the vinyRd and in the production side to trounce on other people's passion. As you said at the beginning, since wine is always changing and always evolving, I think our mindset when drinking is really matters, more than anything else. And so when we are sharing wines with friends and loved ones, they are going to be more pleasant and enriching than when we are being super analytical, especially knowing that even 5 minutes out of the bottle is going to change it. As an example, one of the favorite wines I used to drink, a real treat foe me when I was cooking my way through college, became something I did t care for after a date that was really sour. I tell myself I'll try it again. But... opportunity? Here's to "Terroir at the Tablec, doc!. Once again, I'm so happy one of our local made it in your show
