The positioning of your legs play a lot in the end result, you have to put your dominant leg in the crook of the knee of you other leg, so that it is inside the pole and the other non dominant leg is out side, this is to stop you from using your dominant leg to rise up.

TheGhost then your doing it wrong it was a world war 2 capture method you have to have your dominant leg on the inside so wrap your dominant leg around the pole then put your other overtop bend down and put your outside foot behind the inside foot

We used to do this all the time when I was a kid. We got it out of the military manual "Get Tough". On playground poles with rocks underneath you can get out of it, but on grass or solid ground, with a pole large enough it is very difficult to get out of. I would imagine that in army boots it would be impossible. The book is unintentionally hilarious at times. Like they talk about unarmed combat and one of the techniques is the "bronco kick" where you throw the enemy to the ground and then leap up into the air over them, bring your knees up towards your chest and slam them down heels first into the enemies torso. Another one is how to pick someone up and basically break them in half over your knee. They have diagrams and illustrations on how to do the moves too.

@@ryandunham1047 If they were out in the battlefield and captured an enemy, they might not have a good way of securing them. By forcing them to sit down around a tree in this specific way it ties up their legs and then if their arms are tied in front they cannot do anything. it is to be used in emergency situations out in the field.

This technique btw is called The Grape Vine and was performed on imprisoners from the WW2. This is the original text from a document in which the technique was described: "After a while in this position, 10 to 15 minutes, you start getting cramps in your legs, which becomes unbearable.
