We just lost my grand dog a week ago. She was 12. I miss her so much.

The Kangal is a very specific breed. It is certainly considered an "Anatolian Shepherd" as it's a shepherding dog from Anatolia, but all Anatolians are not "Kangal's". There are some very distinct and specific characteristics separating them from a simple Anatolian shepherd. We have a Kangal now but have had many guardian dogs. Our boy Aslan is 31.5" and 140lbs, of loving energy. However, there most certainly is a very animalistic nature to them when provoked and/or when they perceive danger. Ours will chase after any wild animal within its proximity and can kill it so quickly you won't realize until it's over. Aslans favorite animal to go after is the Coyote, then the Fox and the Raccoon. We have been very fortunate to not have had any major vet bills related to his "guardian" instincts and behavior. Wanted to add that we have a large acreage, where Aslan and his siblings 2 Irish wolfhounds get to watch over horses, chickens, cats and a plethora of wildlife, and to run and play until they drop. He interacts regularly with other dogs and humans and has been socialized since the beginning, going to the farm store, car rides etc... because these types of dogs must be socialized, have room to run and some type of job involving guardianship. I trust our boy watching over our 3 yo granddaughter, which he is absolutely in love with, and feeling that takes a great deal for me. These are absolutely incredible dogs, but I hope they don't get popularized, as the testament to what happens to a dog breed which become chic etc... is not good.

If you ask 50 owners, you'll get 50 descriptions. I have a mix. The only thing is the behavior of these breeds is almost identical. They are wonderful dogs. Mine is a family pet, but constantly alert and springs into action as needed. She really likes golfcarts. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body, but recently defended herself against attack from two pitties. She gave as good as she got.

Anatolian Shepherd is not a breed but a term used to describe a dog that is a mix of more than one Turkish LGD breeds.

How so because AKC doesn't recognize them as different. Is it one is smooth coat and one is a rough coat? They generally are both black and yellow , I could show pics of the same dogs to some people and some would say Kangel others Anatolian Shepard's I really would like to solve this some what debate but it's really pointless they do a great job guarding livestock.

@@user-sb3yq5hi5p I believe if it's a elder I've seen a few of his videos and all are pretty educational but a little rough translating l. I guess the difference is here is because AKC didn't distinguished that they are different and they are being mixed unintentionally. I've got what some say one of each but on paper they say ASD. All I know is they are great livestock guardians and they are a happy dogs doing that rather than being kennled in a house while someone that wants a big dog works all day.

@@kathylong9087 can you imagine the ones that are sitting around waiting all day for there owners to get home. Most people don't have the luxury of taking their dog to work with them.

Dont mistake kangal with anatolian , they are different breed.

Anatolian Shepard's are not house pets leave them in the pasture with livestock. If you don't have livestock dont get a Anatolian Shepard a good breeder won't sell a ASD as a pet.

I don't have a farm. I got my 2 from a shelter. They are the best dogs ever. I have half an acre fenced in and they really are the best dogs I've ever had

@@Takedownman they do a lot of socialization at shelters, how old was they when you got them? Was they previous pets? Why did the previous owners surrender them? Are they full blooded? A lot of questions there but I know they all don't. The most stubborn independent thinking animals they can get up to 200 lbs I've seen mine is probably 160-170 lbs males and 120-140lbs females why really would someone want something that big, stubborn and smart that has 2 coats of hair that would always be shedding in the house really there so many other large dog breeds that make better pets but can't do what they are bred to do guard livestock.

I just adopted one. He is 5 months old. I have 1 fenced acres with chickens for him to guard. So,far he takes orders from my Pomeranian lmao.
