STORY
Welcome to our latest adventure! In this episode, we take you deep into the heart of Portugal where we stumbled upon an amazing discovery - the forgotten house of the Pimentel family that dates back to the mid-1800s.
For generations, this house has been in the same family, who were known for producing wine on a large scale for the whole region. They were considered simple, noble people and their legacy is apparent in every nook and cranny of the house. The traditional architecture and the vineyard that still stands to this day are a testament to their hard work and dedication to their craft.
Since 1995, family members have been slowly moving out of the house, leaving it abandoned and forgotten. By the year 2000, only Maria, her daughter, and her husband remained. The family had a birthday party for the oldest tenant, Maria, who turned 99 years old. Unfortunately, Maria didn't live to see her 100th birthday, and when she passed away, the remaining family members moved out, leaving the house and all its valuable possessions behind, frozen in time.
Walking through this house is like taking a step back in time. The walls, floors, and ceilings all have stories to tell, and the presence of the Pimentel family can still be felt wandering through the home.

This was such a amazing video. My Grandfather lived to be over 99, my Grandmother was 95. He refused to pass away until his Jennie went first. He wasn’t going to leave her. This brought back so many memories. Thank you for all you do.

Darlene that is what I want. I'm 65, hope I have more years to celebrate family. But, when it's time for me to go, I want to go before my husband. Here on earth he is literally my everything. It is a shame family left everything, but if family doesn't want it or not in touch with family members this happens.

The photo at 11:40 is not the daughter but the Duke and Duchess of Bragança. He is the head of the Portuguese Royal family and for monarchists considered the King of Portugal. Excellent video as usual, thank you for documenting this lovely home!

A grand family of monarchists & patriots of a bygone era, enthralling to see into the past, these people lived through religion and the state, an era now long passed and one we will never witness again...I found this episode chilling to watch although very interesting as well as insightful... My mom lives in Spain. She have a lot of portrait of the king and Queen of Spain and there’s family all over our house like they are family, but had nothing to do with us. It is something common in Europe, having the Queens and King and their family pictures in our homes.

I always think what a shame that all the beautiful furniture which could be restored, all the books,just sitting there wasting away. She had children and other family members I can’t understand why thry don’t want to restore it. If it was in one of our family property we wouldn’t hesitate to restore all the buildings. I think it is because they want to live near the city, and the house is in the country. Apparently, a lot of nice houses sit empty because most of the people who can afford them prefer to live in cities. Those people simply have no interest in a house in the middle of nowhere. Living in the country is nice, but when you have millions, I guess you can get more services in the city.

This is an amazing home. The views are spectacular. The house was very well kept. The garden has beautiful blue hydrangeas. Such a great explore. In its glory days this mansion would be amazingly beautiful. It’s sad to watch it decay. Thank you Leslie and Danny for this wonderful video.

I can’t believe the furniture would be abandoned along with so many other things. It just seems like such a waste. It hurts my heart. I’ll never understand why people do that. I know there’s many reasons, but I would think something could be done with them. I would love to be able to go back in time just for one day to see what it was like. It saddens me that this large family just abandoned this entire property, even sadder, they left family photos & heirlooms behind😢. I would love to have some heirlooms of my grandparents, great-grandparents and so forth.

Oh, they even had a little chapel. In the U.S. we call that square opening in the center of the house a courtyard. This place is amazing!

Very Beautiful and what a lost heritage, no family who cares to continue what took a life time to create and maintain. The courtyard full of light blue hydrangea was over grown but was obviously a highlight of the vineyard home. Just spectacular ❤

Exactly, there are times when the aged pass on and no will has been left or the surviving family members have their own homes & furnishings, these places are just left as is, I'm sure much had been removed from this property by relatives but they can't take everything, also the estate may be in abeyance or owing death duties. There are many aspects and reasons why these homes are left derelict, you would be surprised... Also access to this specific property is limited making it difficult removing furniture and the like...Lesley, Thank You for another riveting explore, as always done with great reverence & grace, I enjoy your exploits immensely & so very professional too!!!

The ceiling medallion in the main dining room is beautiful. I love the way this house is laid out. The views from the courtyard are fantastic, the house had so much personality. What a lovely place it was in its time.

Огромная река, крутой обрыв, пейзаж великолепный. Крепкий дом, мебель красивая особенно буфет, лепнина на потолке красивая. Голубые гортензии красивые и часовня. Если сделать ремонт и привести в порядок территорию, то можно там жить. Жалко такой дом пропадает, в таком красивом месте. Спасибо за съёмки! С удовольствием посмотрела.

Honestly.. they knew. There’s no way they didn’t know. Many people up and live without taking items with them, especially in these times. I’ve seen people up and leave expecting the next person to finish what they couldn’t get rid of. So depressing, but still beautiful to see as viewers❤.

Magnificent... Oh my God... I still can't imagine how people just leave every thing behind and vanish away leaving their memories and history behind abandoned for 10's of years and leave it to decay and get back to nature.... I am from Jordan, and have been following you videos for almost a month, watching around 4 videos every day... I can't believe my eyes man.... and my question: haven't you or anybody try to get in contact with their children or relatives? I feel sorry for all this amazing things to be left for nature, animals and decay!!! why don't they turn it to museums instead?? all the best to you ... and I'm one of thousand waiting for your explorations... the blue flowers (hydrangea) can change colors based on soil acid. My mom used to dry them and make a wreath for the holidays.

I've never seen so many beautiful Hydrangeas flowers in one place.Usually they mixed with pink ones and blue ones and white.They cost a fortune at a flower shop.And they smell so good.What an awesome place.Thanks guys 👍❤️🇺🇸

I love the house and furniture, but I also notice the outside the hydrangeas with the blue flowers people here in America take extra care of them and these are big and beautiful left there in the weeds and other things, simply amazing you guys ❤it and y’all thanks so much!

Wow! Lesley and Danny that was a journey getting to that enormous farm house. Walking inside was breathtaking. This was a great video, with two of my favorite intrepid explorers. It is still a beautiful house, despite the decay. I'm also glad that Lesley and Danny weren't mauled by the cows or bitten by the bats, and I especially love that the unexpected, often funny, incidences aren't edited out of these videos. In the living space,the photo of the bride and groom on top of the closet is of the Dukes of Bragança. Duarte Pío de Bragança and Isabel de Herédia,Suitor to the disappeared throne of bragança.Although in Portugal no monarchy since 1910,Duarte Pío of Bragança keep fighting for the restoration of the monarchy.

My family heritage lived in Italy and came to America in late 1800’s, so always love to see your time-period episodes. Thank you for all you do; for your time and careful dedication in capturing these beautiful and soon to be lost, mansions and royal family homes. Wow, this place is so amazing and beautiful. This place hasn't been abandoned as long as some. Also looks like it would still be liveable with not as much extreme repair as some places. Too bad someone wouldn't come and do so. Garden is beautiful, imagine with some trimming and clearing up of the bushyness. Okay Leslie here's your future home😊😉🙃💜💜💜

When you were in the dining room and showed the carving in the chest it reminded me of a bar I once had in my kitchen. The top of the bar was covered in tile but I hadn't noticed any of the pieces in the dining room having tile. I wondered if my bar might have been made in Portugal. My husband worked for a small business that refinished furniture and that's how we got the bar. When you left the room with the bats the tile on the walls of the hallway was the same color and pattern as the tile on my bar. I sold the bar over 30 years ago to one of my cousins because it was too big for the room but I enjoyed the feeling of nostalgia you gave me. I do hope the furniture will be removed and restored. It's too beautiful to let decay.

Thank you, Danny for all the Knowledge on things Lesley didn`t know!! As for the House it Did Not look Tiny, to Me!! It is Sad, that Any Family didn`t come back & get All the Belongings! Maybe a Retired Couple or a Rich Person would Buy It!! I Love the Patio in the Center of the House, & House is Wrapped Around It!! I Really Love the Blue Hydrangea Flowers in the Patio!! The Ceilings, Furniture, 5 Beds, Dining Room was Gorgeous, 2 Chests-the 2nd Chest opened in the Front Not the Top, Engraved Chairs, Plates, Glasses with the Crests, & the Crystal Chandeliers on Ceiling & Walls!! Plus the Breathtaking Views from the Yard!! When Seeing the Picture of the Great Grandma, Grandma & Grandaughter...I Think Mother is taking the Picture!! Now Lesley...Turn the Pictures Over to Maybe Say Dates?? Pretty Tiles in the Hallway!! Love the Tea Room with Small Breakfast, from Danny!! Wow those Straw Chairs, were Unique, & they do sell them here in USA!! I Think the Straw Animal was a Donkey like Danny said, sorry Lesley but Cows have Smaller Ears!! I seen that video it is somewhere in England, her relatives never told her or the people allowed to ramble around the house, the relatives wanted her out of the house so they could sell it but she stubbornly hung on in the house, it was actually funny when she was discovered in bed, the 2 lads thought she was dead till she sat up and asked them wtf are you doing in my house, it's an English programme, try googling it.

I cannot say oooooh and aaaaaah with you because this is a tragedy happening in slow motion . Without active family participation and ownership , when these buildings begin to fail all these things will rot and be lost to time . This was a beating exploration. The house had so much love in it for family but the business as well. I understand why they left everything because it is just things. Now that everyone was gone it had too many memories. If you keep too many keepsakes from the people who died you can never move forward. It is well persevered considering all the years. Thanks for the great adventure and can't wait to see next week.

Someone may have said this...another name for the center section might be "courtyard". Amazing home! I agree it is noble...and the owner was obviously a real Noble....and the home is gracious, elegant, and inviting. I don't think of it as "simple" though, unless in comparison to a true mansion. It's intricate and full of twists and turns...yet so well laid out. Maybe no 12 foot ceilings...but grandeur nevertheless! Beautiful video!!

I love how you mention the culture, i have family from Portugal. I cant understand how people could leave it All behind. With alk the family, you would think someone would inherit it all. Thank you for great viedo

What a beautiful Mansion! The chapel was my favorite building. What religious people these were! I had to chuckle in several areas of the video. Cows with horns? LOL they are bulls. And the flying bats flying around Leslie! I don't think it was made to be comical but I had to chuckle. Lesley you look so handsome in Danny's family suit. Poor Danny again, fighting his way through the brush!! The video again was fantastic. I love your work.

Though I have only seen a half dozen or so of your wonderful videos, this is is by far, for me, the best place you have featured. What a sin that it has been abandoned with all the beautiful furniture and family's personal effects. The hall wall tiles and the formal dining room furniture are absolutely stunning. It should be offered up for sale and completely restored. What a beautiful setting and gorgeous view; so peaceful and serene. Thank you for posting this beautiful estate. Lesley, you look so handsome in Danny's traditional clothing. I need to make a point of watching many more of your excellent videos.

Wow, another great find, Lesley. Thanks for showing us this amazing place. We appreciate your gentleness and respect shown during all your explorations, and in paying homage to the families that once called it 'home'. The chapel scenes were amazing, too. The small cubicle above the altar is the 'tabernacle', where the ciborium is kept. The 'cup' you handled is a 'chalice'. Thanks again to you and Danny for all you do! Can't wait for your next show. Very enjoyable video as always. I get stressed watching these videos wondering if you close all windows and doors, because if you don't it will only hasten the deterioration. You seem very respectful of the properties and contents, so I'm guessing that you take every care to leave the place exactly as you found it

Portugal is know for beautiful needlework, especially from Madeira, and I enjoyed seeing all the runners and coverlets. That was a pretty home, tastefully decorated, and I especially liked the little breakfast room. Nice attention to details, Leslie and compliments to Danny for his filming skills. Thank you!
