Welcome To the Bridle Path, one of Canada's wealthiest neighborhoods and home to many Celebrities over the years such as Drake, Celine Dion, Elton John, and Prince, to name a few.
This Massive 30,000 sqft French Chateau-style Mansion was valued at around $40,000,000 when it was listed in 2014 making it one of the most expensive homes in Canada. It was originally built in 1985 for a real estate developer. He only owned it for a short period of time and was forced to sell it due to a downturn in the economy. In 2002 the home was purchased and for the next several years was restored by the new owners. The mansion features 10 Bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, a massive indoor pool with a retractable floor, allowing it to become a ballroom, a library, a tennis court, several wood-burning fireplaces, a recording studio, a 40 Car garage, and a bomb shelter.
Over the years, the home has played guest to many famous people such as Jane Fonda and former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. The mansion has also been used in multiple films such as It Takes Two starring the Olsen twins.
In 2020 the home was purchased and sat vacant for the next few years. Fast forward to a few months ago, demolition crews were on site and this beautiful piece of architecture was demolished. The plan now is to build a home that's 3 times larger at 90,000 sqft. To do this, the neighboring empty lot was purchased and will be merged into this property.

Being a former high end Real Estate agent starting in the early 80's in Toronto, I am very familiar with this property. When it was announced that this incredibly successful develper was going to build a French chateau style house for himself, at that time, it was considered to be the largest private home in Canada, after the Governor General's (Queen's representative) residence in Ottawa. The property is located in the Billionair's Row, with the largest "backyard" in Toronto. Unfortunately, real estate market crashed due to 10-12% in 1983-86, mortgage rates being forced upon us, and eventually, the owner had to give up his showcase home. It was the jewel property of our city. Watching this video, I was transported back to 40 years, at the apex of my career in real estate. I am 76 yrs. young now, and retired.

146agi122- If the previous owner actually had money, he wouldn't have had a mortgage on the property at all. He would have scratched out a check for it. There would have been no need to be "Forced out" of his home due to high interest mortgage rates. Period.

This mansion was at one time gorgeous. Thank you for the lengthy tour of where people have once lived. I will never understand why it needed to be built so huge. How many families lived in here and what was their people amount per family. I'd get lost in there all day long. Even a family of five it's too much wasted space. Some folks just didn't know what to do with their wealth. Was this demolished!? If it was why? This mansion looked livable compared to others I have watched. You know what if it's been closed up for a few years I'd also question if this is what I needed to live in also. 🏰🏝🏖😂😍🧐

it does look dated, very top-end 80’s. there might be other structural or building reasons why it has to go. not my taste, the novelty would soon wear off after about a week, then I will be hating rattling around this huge space on my own. heat & light bills will be horrific. too big for me & most people, not bothered to see it go. it’s plot can be used to build something that will be used.

It makes me feel sick to know that all that wood work, marble, cabinetry and other fixtures and the astounding painting that was in the hall were demolished. Habitat for Humanity would have loved some of those things. My whole apartment would fit in that ballroom. The lights in the closet in the primary bedroom look like something an entertainer would need for costumes and the stained window in the bathroom is breathtaking. That Aerotone bath looks like a torture chamber. The room at the top of the stairway near the kitchen was likely for in house staff as well as the rooms on the top floor. Then, behind the thick door WOW. I can't believe how the sound changed in the next room you found. All that said, I can see why it was taken down. I've seen video of this house before but you covered so much more, thank you.🌹

I was at a wedding in New Jersey recently in a similar dated mansion/chateau. They converted it into a wedding/event venue. It had an almost identical French painted garden/cafe hall that opened into a bar area that opened into the cocktail area and ballroom. It had a large patio and garden, for the ceremony. Located in a very private secluded area. The renovations to the back of the house, made it able to convert to a venue. They also had to add fields of parking. It was a great idea, so that the chateau would not have to be razed. I enjoyed your filming. Thank You.

Being a former high end R.E.agent in Toronto, I am familiar with this fabulous property. I am also shocked to hear that it will be demolished for sentimental reasons, however, with all the new wealthy immigrants arriving into Canada, mainly Toronto, they all want NEW HOUSES, with all the bells and whistles of most up to date technical and architectural designs. Although, if the present owner is planning to spend tens of millions, this chateau style home has fabulous bones, and a full renovation could turn out to be even better due to having already solid foundation.

Grew up in house like this. The bomb shelter has angled hallways, thick doors to deter radiation. Separate water supply. Probably later turned into panic room, sound room, whatever. The upper floor was probably for staff. Nanny, maid, cook etc. what a beautiful home. So sad they couldn’t take out the hand painted floral closet doors, stained window, vanities, doors, knobs etc for re-sale. You will never see quality & detail like this today. In such great shape too! Could have turned into boutique hotel! Sooo sad! 😢

I absolutely love this mansion and the design time frame! I loved the kitchen and the staircase, the library or study with the beautiful wood, the arches, and so much more. I guarantee I love this more than any new updated larger mansion they are going to build. Newer, more modern and bigger doesn’t always mean nicer and better! I’m so disappointed they demolished this beautiful mansion! What a waste! The pink ballroom reminds me of a scene I saw of Charles & Diana’s story where he’s visiting her sister at their home and Diana is sneaking through in some costume supposedly trying to hide from Charles because her sister said not to be seen (but she wanted to see him) and they start talking. It totally looks like it from the doors on each side to the three arched windows or French doors in the middle! I haven’t even finished watching this yet! But thank you for filming this! Do you travel all over to get videos of these abandoned mansions then since this one is in Canada? I also take it you travel with the other guy that I’ve been seeing and hearing in the background of the last several videos I’ve watched.

What an incredible tour! And I was thrilled to read the Toronto realtor comment. The small rooms upstairs of the kitchen/back stairs with the carpeting vs the hardwood and the small bathrooms are the staff/housekeeper quarters. Absolutely epic house. I'm weeping that it was torn down. Thank you for this.

The bomb shelter makes sense. When the house was built in 1985 there was still a Cold War going on with the former Soviet Union. The nuclear threat was believed to be real and some people were still putting bomb shelters into their home.

I loved your tour of this house!! But it almost made me cry. Why did the owners not allow specialists to go in and salvage all that they could? I realize that they do not need the money but to destroy all that beauty is a mortal sin in my opinion!! Who needs three times the space of the original house? I am very sure that the workmanship in the ""new"" house will not in any way match what was there before. It hurts my heart to see this kind of destruction. Just because you can does not mean you should. Hopefully the new owners will not run out of money before they finish their monstrosity.

When you're that rich, I'm sure they probably had an amazing staff! I'm sure the staircase off of the kitchen was for the staff quarters. Why would anyone demolish this place without trying to recycle and reclaim all of the fireplace mantles! All of the beautiful bathroom fixtures like the handles etc. I'm sure people would snap this stuff up and get it at a discount, I'm sure. It's also amazing that it has remained untouched! All of the stained glass is amazing! What I wouldn't give to have it! Everything screams of wealth! As you walk around, I continue to be blown away! Around every corner, there is something more interesting! That thing, by the pool, is for hydrotherapy, I believe. The bathroom is not from the 50's, it represents the 70's, to me. I'm commenting as you walk through. LOL Up the stairs with the flowered carpet, this were staff quarters for sure! I wonder just how many they employed to take care of the mansion? No, no! Not family but staff! Holy moley, a b unker bomb shelter!! Think if a nuclear attack happened, you'd probably have to stay down there for a good while! You'd be living down there, thatt it would be like a second home. Like you, I'm truly blown away!! Sorry to go on and on, but wow!!

You were so overwhelmed by this house just think it's going to be torn down and an even bigger one built. Unbelievable!! If you take a wrong turn you could get lost with all the hallways and rooms. I sure hope someone took time to rescue all the beautiful fireplaces, mantles and such. I'm not sure I'd enjoy living there (even with enough money to afford it) and like you I'm not a fan of too much (empty) space. Great video!!
