In the US, there are only two UK accents: royalty and "cor blimey guvnor". In the UK, there are only two US accents: Frasier and rednecks.

To me, "Girl deconstructed" is one of the best Doctor Who Episodes of all time. Its so well done by all the actors and its the typical story everyone can realate to... it starts with a a teenager saying "I wish i was gone" I mean we all have been there and it feels so natural. BUT to me, the biggest Plus for this Episode is the main plot...there is no bad guy. Nothing that want do destroy earth or universe...just the Doctor doing what he does best.... taking care of people and their problems. (well yes, its a big problem)

I do like villain free stories, to the point that there are a handful I'd remove the monster from because the situation is enough (42 leaps to mind).

Ayy, glad you enjoyed Planet of the End so much! For me that's one of the 9th Doctor's best stories, easily on the same level as some of his best televised ones. There are a number more stories like that sprinkled throughout the 9DAs, hope you're able to continue listening; for the reviews of course but also just for your own enjoyment!

Hope I can check it out sometime. And thanks for mentioning _Dead Air!_ I hadn't heard of that one, and I'm an audiocentric person so Who stories which involve or make good use of audio are right up my street.

I know I'm super late but DAMN is Planet of the End one of my fave 9 stories! Like I haven't listened to all the other 9 BF stuff yet but I have relistened to that story so many time! 9 and Fred play off each other so amazingly!

A lot of British actors can do American accents very well but the other direction is much less common. I do agree, though, that in some cases doing an accent can involve too much energy being taken out of a performance.

Quick correction, Dead Air was not originally a book. It's a piece of prose, but it's still original to audio. There are a lot of those stories, but Dead Air is the only one I can think of to actually use the audio medium to any great effect.

I didn't have a problem with Damian Lynch's accent, but more the sound quality of the recording. It was almost certainly down to the lockdown home studio recording, but it was always clear he was not in the same room, or car, or cathedral as everyone else. It was a good story otherwise, but I do agree with the senseless sacrifice of Maurice. Loved the accidental interaction of 9 with himself in the first story!

another Big Finish story that deals with sound, but I think does it very well, is actually one of its earliest: Whispers of Terror, the 3rd one from The Monthly Adventures, it was actually released all the way back in 1999. it features (spoilers!) a creature literally made of sound, and the first and second parts, before the Doctor deduces this, play with that a lot, with the listener thinking it's an actual, visual entity, but dropping several hints of what it actually is. maybe not the best story ever, but definitely as experimental as early Big Finish sometimes got with its format back in the day.

Is the time war mentioned or referenced in these stories? I struggle to imagine 9 outside of that post time war context

It gets some reference but nothing explicit. This is the 9th Doctor basically as we saw him in Rose: bouncing around time and space with a forced smile.
