The screws on the adapter if loosened allows you to rotate the postion of the lens so you can have the numbers and such at the top. Then retighten. Easy adjustment.

Nice, a modern vintage lens! You nailed it on that last shot, lovely background bubbles. If I had a FF rather than APS-C, I'd get it just for the fun factor. Another enjoyable video, thanks Arthur.

With the focus-mapping function featured in most Sony's latest cameras, it may well make for a great combo. Focus-peaking is a great tool, but often falls short for portraits. Silhouetting a face, emphasizing very thin elements (such as eyelashes/brows or short hairs), creating "focus separation" often fails, etc. is not what focus-peaking does best. This 100 mm f/2.8 may well be a solution as a cine-lens for very tight frames, similar to the Jean Renoir or Jean-Pierre Melville films. One simply can buy it then test it. Then , if it does not make the cut, reselling it should be easy for the same price or near-same.

You asked for it, so here is what I think... I think it's amazing, and shines from image 1 up to the very last one. I mean... the model. 😇

Arthur, now that you have the M42 adapter you should pick up a few M42 vintage lenses. "Simon's utak" youtube channel is almost exclusively about great M42 vintage lenses. I'd love to see you cover some of these lenses on your channel. Helios, Zeiss Jena, etc. As someone else noted, there are a few allen key set screws on the adapter that allows you to rotate the adapter to get the focus ring centered on the top of your camera body (at least there are on the adapter I purchased for my M42 lenses). Love your channel.

Finding vintage lenses at reasonable prices is increasingly difficult so ... But it could definitely be a bit sharper and perhaps more contrast to really be up to the old-time standards.

The focus peaking on the a6100 didn't help with this lens? I use the Helios 44-2 sometimes and that works fine to help with focusing. Photos look good still if you are going for that style/look.

I think because of no ibis. Make it more difficult to nail focus while try to keep shot steady.

My 7.5mm APSC fisheye from them is like a tank. I mean it's built better than half of my Nikon Z lenses (even the premium S-lenses in terms of build quality of the barrel, sadly). The one thing I sort of always wondered about these cheaper lenses that re manual focus, and have focus scales, is how accurate are they? I would assume copy to copy variation between production runs may be higher, and so this begs the question of how accurate those scales are and how likely are you t oget one that perhaps isn't as good (sharp) as others from the same batch/line. But I guess part of me also thinks that for the price, you're not risking much, and with manual focus assist (focus peaking) on most cameras these days, even if the scales are slightly off, you can rely on focus peaking if you need to (although if you're zone focusing, you may need to verify the accuracy of the scales).

Well, a thousands used like-this (135/2.8) lenses on market for less 100$ in extra condition. I can use my Canon EF 135/2.8 SF for a such pictures anyway. Autofocus one.

Hi Arthur I hope u reply, planning to upgrade from sony a6000 the only available choice that i have is sony zve10 mark 1 and a7ii both used. What should i get? I'm into photography. Should I consider new features from sony zve10 or ff a7ii still better? Zve10 is what i can afford for crop without breaking my wallet. And i'm also a student so this 2 is my only option for now. Your opinion for this will be a great help for my decision

@@user-gu1yy5fp9p The color science and the autofocus on the A7ii is significantly behind the ZVE10. I’d personally go ZVE10 for those two reasons alone.

Hi Arthur, I know my question is not related to this video but Can you please advise, I can't make my mind between this lens the Tamron 70-180 g2 and the new Sony 70*200 F4 macro lens. I'm thinking to get the Sony but the F4 is making me hesitated as I do a lot portrait as well. But I like the idea of getting sony glass as it performs much better with Sony camera of course. How do you see it. Thanks so much for helping me out.🙏 Hope you will notice my question, I really appreciate your advice. Thanks so much in advance.

In my mind the difference between F2.8 and F4 is significant. I wouldnt buy a zoom unless it was an F2.8, but the Sony is a great lens if you dont mind that F4. Id choose the Tamron.

@@ArthurR thank-you so much, I really appreciate that you took the time and replied. It really helped me a lot. I trust your experience, your work on your videos. Actually you were the reason I moved from Canon to Sony. I still remember your video switching to Sony alfa 6100. Thanks again 👍

The character has been sucked out of cars these days, and you can say the same of lenses. Modern lenses are surgical, they don't have character, just like modern cars. At least this lens has a "look"
