I wanted to buy the Sigma for a long time, but i waited since viltrox released the 27mm for fuji. I need to know now if the extra weight, size, price and aperture of the viltrox is really worth it in direct comparison to sigma 23mm.

Ive got the Viltrox 75 1.2 recently, and I was blown away by its sharpness and crazy bokeh. I will absolutely add this 27 1.2 to my shopping list as well soon.

Viltrox is so underrated. Their pro lenses look great,:Take great pictures, and they are priced right! I can't wait until they make a pro zoom lens. Maybe a 16-75 f2.8 with VC 🙏🏾

Just ordered this based on this and Mark Bennett’s review. Have the 75mm but like you said, I think this one will be more versatile and will use a lot more. Thank you for your reviews and including many sample pictures to view. It really helps decide what to get based on my needs and budget.

Really like your videos with your lovely family. This 27mm/A6700 combo is exactly what I've been considering. Mostly entrenched in M43 however the excellent AF of Sony leading me there...and 40mm focal length is perfect. thanks

Thank you for the review. I pre-ordered this lens when it was announced and have now had it for awhile. Made the decision to get it based on the 75/1.2 that I got for my A6700. Really like ~40mm lenses and glad to see this focal length for APS-C even though it’s a little heavier. The A6700 + 27/1.2 is still lighter in some cases than a full size body + GM so I’m giving it a try. So far so good. Take care.

I’ve been using it for a month on the X T3. The build quality is excellent, it has heft (the Sigma 30mm feel and looks like a toy next to it), and the picture IQ is obscenely good.

I was able to take the first pictures with this lens on March 2nd. I pre-ordered it in December! And YES, you are absolutely right! It's a wonderful lens. Adding to your words in the video, it has incredible low light performance! It works well on my a6700 and also on the ZV-E10! After this powerful lens, I ordered the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 to have the complete holy trinity of Viltrox (along with the 13mm F1.4). Thanks for your review!

I got Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and 75mm f1.2 and I’m more than impressed with the sharpness, autofocus, weather sealing on 75mm model and their firmware updates. I would even go as far as saying that it’s better than equivalent sigma models on my sony 6400

I had focus problems on mine w/a6700 initially but a firmware update fixed it. Update your firmware if you have issues

This lens seems soo good. I can’t wait to get mine! You took some nice photos with yours. If you do a comparison with the 23mm, would it be interesting to also add a 33mm lens to compare with? Then you’d have the full frame equivalent of 35mm, 40mm and 50mm to compare.

After watching your review of the Viltrox 75mm F1.2, I bought that for my a6700 and it's definitely my favorite lens, when I can use it given the focal length. Looks like next time I think about buying a lens it'll be this one, having both the 27 75mm focal lengths would make a nice pair.

Hi, Wanted to know if there are any updates on af performance after firmware update 1.0.4 in dec 23 as people say that it was not reliable for fast moving subjects like birds in the very first firmware? I am in the market for buying one. I currently have sigma 18-50 f2.8 for my a6700, looking to have a prime now-- confused between sigma 56 f1.4 and the this viltrox 75. Performance wise 56 seems to be reliable. Wether sealing, image quality wise viltrox seems better. Also this will add a bigger focal length for my use.

I remember watching a video of you were explaining about focal lengths. you were showing examples by using a full frame camera with apsc lens first and then full frame camera with full frame lens and how the apsc lens produces the same size image on the sensor as full frame lens but has a vignette. 3:42 That's a cute picture. If the X-Pro4 ever comes out I'll be getting a set of the Voigtlaender mechanical lenses with contacts, and I'll probably get these Viltrox Pro lenses, too. They remind me of the last waves of no-holds-barred Sigma Art reflex lenses - 40mm and 105mm.

That comparison with the Sigma 23mm 1.4 would be a great follow up video. Not sure if the old Sigma 30mm has a tiny spot or mention in that video. The pictures in this video are very sharp 🤤 What is the 1.2 equivalent to when compared to full frame? 2.0? Great video as always Arthur 👌🏼

It's equivalent to a 40.5mm f1.8, which is quite nice. I have the Sigma 23mm so I'm interested as well to see, but I imagine it does better at the cost of size and weight.

I bought this and use it on my A6500, the close focus does not feel like 28cm, more like 20 maybe. In any case, I fully recommend this thing to anyone. The only negative about it is the focus hunting. My Sigma 30/1.4 is much more confident.

Does the focus hunting happen in photography? My Sigma 30mm had a terrible autofocus performance when I was using it with my A5100. The problem was only fixed after I upgraded to an A6400. Would love to hear more of your insights regarding the autofocus performance of the Viltrox 27mm.

@@paulhernandez346 it does, but it's different to what the sigma has on 6500, which has worse AF than the 6400. For me, the firmware update on the sigma fixed a lot of issues, and is great on this camera, and I feel that the viltrox was improved with their firmware update as well. I don't think it's that bad, you will notice it sometimes but less on a 6400 than 6500. I can't say if it will lose you a people shot on the street, but for usual snaps it works well enough.

I am a fan of Viltrox lenses. I currently have the 33mm F1.4 which you reviewed 3 years ago. It practically lives on my a6100. Although i find that the autofocus is not quite as fast as the Sony SEL35mm prime lens.

I pre-ordered this after being somewhat astounded with the 75mm f1.2. It's on my camera most of the time. I also own the amazing 13mm f1.4. I would love if viltrox tackled a zoom lens. I put them up against Sigma now, which is crazy how quickly they have come up the ranks.Ipair this with my A6700.

@@gamadrid I bypassed the 16mm for the 13mm, so I can't answer this. But compared to the 30mm and the 56 mm, it's as good or better. I wanted a wider lens than the 16mm, and, at least not now, I use it for photos. But I'm more than impressed by it. There's a richness to it. Viltrox has a personality. And of course, he shrpness if top notch.

an appropriate first lens would be the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, but if you want a single prime lens to be your only lens, this is a perfect option in my opinion.. unless you prefer wider lenses.. then go for the 16 mm or the 23 mm f/1.4 from Sigma

Two different lenses for two different purposes. Portraits: Sigma. Street/walkaround lens: Viltrox. The sigma is half the size.

I just bought this lens right after watching this review 2 weeks ago, and as somebody who used the Sigma 30mm for 7 years, I can tell you there is just no comparison as far as image quality is concern. This lens is just otherworldly sharp, has significantly less barrel distortion and CA, and performs slightly better in terms of autofocus. The build quality is also far superior with the exception of the flimsy lens hood. The only area that the Sigma is better is portability and weight due to the Viltrox weighing more than twice and being much larger than the Sigma.

APSC is gaining more and more sense with these kind of optics like the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 and 75mm f1.2. I really start to think that APSC might be actually the sweet spot of the sensor sizes.

IMHO, Yes, Sigma 30mm is bad and old compared to a new one like this. It suffers from CA and it isnt as sharp. ps. I used to have 30mm Sigma.

@@rsat9526 THX for your feedback. I have owned the 30mm for a few now and still love it, so i guess our opinions differ, lol :) This Viltrox does look amazing but it's quite a bit bigger and heavier then the 30mm but it does have some nicer features for sure.

The Sigma is a very capable lens. I own both the Sigma and the Viltrox. I'm going to keep the Sigma for size and weight, but, since I purchased the Viltrox, I haven't used the Sigma.

Depends on how much you use it. For the money and for the size, the Sigma 30mm is still very capable and a bargain. Its not as good as newer sigmas and these viltrox lenses, but its still very good.

Very good lens. I use it as my smaller set up. THE lens hood is a complete failure. But the great optics and price make it tolerable.

Please check out a few more lenses from Kamlan. You seemed a fan of the 50mm v2, but seems you've stopped following the brand altogether. There's a 70mm 1.1 that seems quite tasty.

All these mid range manufactures, ie viltrox, alowa, artisans all manage to create great glass but they are all way too big. They really need to work on that asap.

I wish that too, but It has aperture of 1.2 and top sharpness with nearly 0 aberration, such characteristic is impossible to get with smaller, lighter design.

Yeah... at about a hundred dollars more than the Sigma it really needs to prove it's worth to me in a comparison of picture quality. A good build is nice and all, but having to carry that thing around all the time... pfew. While i do agree that is gives photos a fullframe look, it also has the dimensions of a fullframe lens. And it also doenst come that cheap

I think 27mm is a strange focal length for a super fast f1.2, I see it as a street/snap shooting length so wouldn't want it to be as big

Agree, I would rather like to see 27 1.8 with super light and compact size, but good sharpness and CA control, actual aps-c lenses are seriously outdated or bad optically.

Wow, the quality is real It's metal-build and has full features too (aperture ring, buttons, etc...). The price is the same as Sigma 23mm as well For me, 500+G is a bit too heavy, the size too I am leaning toward Sigma 23mm more (already own one). Even though it's not as bright (F1.2 vs F1.4)

How hard do we need to beg sony to get a dual card slot APSC camera? I want one so freaking bad, with all these awesome APSC lenses coming out. Guess ill just have to get a a7rv to shoot crop lol

Commenting as Videographer THIS IS THE SUPER ULTRA MEGA FACTS: this lens is not compatible with a6000 : ISSUES are superb focus hunting But super Buttery AF on : a6400 and up series up to FX30's This lens has Super Slow AF not good at fast moving objects/subjects
