Situated within the Waipara Valley in North Canterbury, an hour's drive north of Christchurch, is the 12.8km long Weka Pass Railway - the home of steam locomotive A 428. Here are some video highlights of the pacific, working hard over a number of running days on the railway during the winter & spring of 2022. A 428 has been a popular attraction of the railway since being restored in 1993, almost 30 years ago and the time for a major overhaul is soon approaching at the end of July 2023. This will require time, major expenses & various resources to enable the engine to steam once again, roaming the rails of the ex-Waiau branch line. For now, enjoy some of the final moments of A 428 working hard on its home rails!
